This is the greatest fight of all time period! It was the only time they met anywhere near their best. What Ali lost in a bit of foot speed he gained in being able to sit down on his punches. Ali did not respect Joe & thought he could get him out of there. He hit Joe with what seemed like 1,000 punches in the first five rounds. No one else could have withstood the relentless combos, except Joe that night. He would take 3, 4, 5 to get in one left hook. He would have died this night before losing to Ali (& he damn near did). The pace was insane & Joe's conditioning was off the charts. Frazier was amazing. He was so small, not very muscular & only had one A+ weapon. Yet with that he was able to turn the fight & beat Ali on a night no one else could have. For me it was the best individual sports performance I've ever seen. I've watched this fight must be 20 times, & I still cannot believe Joe's determination. Ali recovered after this fight. Joe never completely did. What Ali didn't take from him, big George certainly did. But on this night Smokin' Joe was not going to be beat...not with fists....not with a hammer....truly legendary.

Ali never totally recovered from this fight either but he didn’t lose as much as Joe in this one.

@@boxingquality1041didn't know that lol the build up was amazing even though I wasn't born then. It was already an instant classic. Very rare event

One of the great sporting events of the 20th Century ......

Ali lost this fight only because it was only 5 months after not fighting for 3 years 1967 to 1970, it was only his 3rd fight after getting his ban reversed. How would you fight after only 5 months training. After he got back into shape, he kicked Frazier's ass twice.
@shehzadhussain6964Рік тому
Agreed if Ali didn't get banned he would win

So the mouth did not fare too well at least Joe could dress and feed himself he lost his voice as payment for all the crap he spewed about Joe

Frazier at his best, Ali definitely not, he later admitted he couldn't figure out how to deal with that left hook, but he did by the time of their next two fights

Those fights were AMAZING with a capital A. They were never the same after those fights.

I thought Ali wore a Red Robe in their 1st fight. 🤔

He did I just used that clip cuz it was really clear

Being susceptible to a left hook was always Ali's weakness. Sonny Banks, Henry Cooper and Smokin Joe all knocked him down with left hooks. Ali would hold both of his hands low (too low?) but somehow he didn't defend as well from his right side.
@boxingquality1041Рік тому
True but 64 to 67 in Ali’s prime that became his strengths because he needed to know how not to get with the left hook from sonny liston
@rudimwongozi2169Рік тому
@@boxingquality1041 well if we believe Sonny's story his left shoulder got injured early on. So it turned out Ali didn't have to worry about Sonny's left hook in that fight.

@@rudimwongozi2169 yeah but he used it because Sonny is a beast
