I’ve boxed since I could walk and for those who have, Ali was on another level. Seeing the things he did against seasoned fighters was incredible. I had the chance to meet Ali twice over two days when I was about 16 and going into my first golden gloves tournament. It was surreal how big the champ was in person. I was fortunate enough to be standing on the corner of 56th street and 6th Ave and he turned the corner with his wife and I walked up and shook his hand in disbelief. Rest easy Champ.

@attk1779 років тому
compilations are a tricky thing though. sure he was a great fighter, but cant forgot he chose most of his opponents who werent as good as him
@cashJOHNNYcash179 років тому
Ali was great but there were guys before him who ali learnt off, Gene Tunney for one, from the 1920's, you can see ali took a lot from him. Ali looked so great because he was a heavyweight, his style was pretty common among lower weight fighters who can move better
@rockydragoo9 років тому
i agree with everything you said Kawa Rezayi expect i think he came about at exactly the right time.
@helgar7919 років тому
cashJOHNNYcash17 Interesting that you would say that because Tunney was a great bob and weave fighter. Ali was not. Ali would lean back and away from punches, something fighters in all divisions to this day are taught not to do. Tunney never did that shuffle move. And of course, Ali's talking was a mental ploy he used to disrupt your thinking process and fight plan. All part of his style. Yes, Ali slipped punches like many fighters. Yes, because he kept his distance he could get away with his hands around his navel. Yes, he wasn't a big puncher. To say Ali's style was or is pretty common in lower weight divisions is false. To say fighters emulate and steal from other fighters is a given, and it's all dependent on your strengths, weaknesses and what your trainer(s) are teaching. I don't see where Ali stole anything stylistically from Tunney. If what you're trying in thinly disguised form is a criticism of Ali; if what you're saying is that fighters of Tunney's era were superior to Ali and that Ali is overrated I would disagree even more.
@cashJOHNNYcash179 років тому
Hel Gar first off the shuffle ali did had no purpose but to look good... I meant he took from tunney fighting with hands down, conserving energy, attacking when the opponent wasn't ready, working off a quick jab, being all round smart in the ring. And no I'm not saying fighters from back then were superior to Ali but I was responding to that guy who said Ali was way before his time.. which he wasn't really because there were fighters long before him who paved the way, who created fighting styles before him, Ali took old styles and added flashy stuff to it, thats it
@DaDarkGuy4 роки тому
It's so fascinating how much he was able to minimize his movement just enough to dodge shots without losing a ton of energy. He was really a genius at the sport.

How does skinny-fast 188 lb (vs Miteff) to 213 lb (vs gut-shot Williams) Low-Power Prime Cruiserweight Cassius Clay beat Powerful Prime Proven Super Heavyweights King Fury who never lost or President Ibeabuchi who never lost or Lion Lewis who only lost twice or Big Daddy Bowe who only lost once or Dr Ironfist Vitali who never hit the canvas and only lost twice or Dr Steelhammer Wladimir who never lost for 12 years (longer than Joe Louis) or even Holmes and Tyson? ( "HE DOESN'T" ) Imagine small Clay/Ali trying to manhandle all those Powerful Giant's and hold them behind their neck like he did to little Frazier exactly 133 times during their 2nd boring lackluster fight. GOAT King Fury 6'9" 277 lbs with an 85" albatross like wingspan would have cut off the ring and tied little featherfisted Clay up in knots during clinches. Ali actually lost 9 fights (Norton II & lll, Shavers, Young) not 5,, and his faculties were severely traumatized for an entire decade ..it's not how you start IT'S HOW YOU FINISH Who did Ali actually beat? Old man Liston quit and took-a-dive. Williams was gut-shot point blank with .357 magnum and almost died 4 times. Foreman panicked and punched himself out during the extreme heat and humidity in Zaire Congo. 205 lb Norton snapped his jaw and 205 lb one 👁️ Joe smacked yo overrated greatest into La La Land Why is everyone so afraid to expose or even question extremely biased media hyped Ali? It comes as a shock that both George Foreman and Ken Norton would be two of the lightest fighters the Klitschko brothers have ever faced. George Foreman, whom they called "Big George" had an average median weight of 217 lbs through the entire 1970s. Foreman would be in the BOTTOM-3 of Vitali Klitshcko's LIGHTEST opponents he ever faced. And Ken Norton (208 lbs) would be in Wladimir Kliitschko's BOTTOM-2 LIGHTEST opponents he ever faced.
@Corina_June_Cunningham2 роки тому
Of the 61 fights that Clay/Ali fought 29 wouldn't be allowed nowadays as heavyweight because one or both opponents were below 200 lbs at the time of the bout. In other words they would run as cruiser fights (or below) and Klitschko wouldn't be allowed to stage them. Of the remaining 32 fights Ali lost 4. I am talking about being a cruiser AT THE TIME OF THE BOUT e.g. Ali vs Jimmy Robinson 177 lbs or Ali vs Alex Miteff (with Ali himself being 188 lbs). If one would additionally delete FORMER cruisers off Ali's record (= those boxers who boxed below 200 lbs at some point in their career) then Clay/Ali's record would be 13-1. Take for example Bob Foster vs Ali. Foster himself (56-7) is a non-bummy boxer. That's good. But a win against Foster is WORTHLESS for a heavyweight record comparison. Foster was 180 lbs at the time of the bout. Foster's worthiness in terms heavyweight (as it is defined nowadays) is ZERO

You know he's the Greatest of all time by looking at the lightning speed he throws casually. It's just unbelievable 🔥
@nyterpfan8 років тому
The saddest thing is....when you watch these clips as amazing as they are you have to realize that Ali wasn't even at his peak yet!! His prime years were stolen from him by government tyranny!! Can you imagine what kind of a fighter he would have been had he been able to continue his career during the years he was in exile (1967-70)? He would have been BEYOND mind-boggling---his body was just starting to really mature and fill out and he would have added a hard hitting punch to all that speed. It would have been the absolute perfect combination...he would have set a standard that no other fighter would ever come close to duplicating!!
@TheKelz8 років тому
nyterpfan Besides that, he would be a better boxer after his prime than he was when he came back literally without any training in gym.
@colinstewart918 років тому
nyterpfan Well said sir, well said.
@clairemadeinheaven8 років тому
nyterpfan he was also considering retiring after the foley fight (just before the ban), so if he retired he would've retired undefeated, and would be able to still talk today. but no, the government did their bs and ali probably tried to make up for lost time and went on way longer than he should have.
@TheKelz8 років тому
+Bre Fujimoto Can you tell me where you read about him considering retiring after Folley fight?
@clairemadeinheaven8 років тому
The Kelz during the fight(pre or after, can't remember) interview for the foley fight ali was saying how he'd like to retire being the first hw fighter to hit and not get hit, and planned to not let people know if he can take a punch or not. and ali pretty much gave up on boxing after the foley fight cause that's when the government and boxing council started to push; when they took away his license he never thought he would fight again, so that's as good as a retirement (apart from his perfect scenario retirement as stated in that interview). but like i said, if the boxing council never took his license away, and based on what ali wanted during the 60's he definitely would've retired undefeated and no parkinsons. the lawyer fees and all the $$$ involved defending yourself in court + taking care of your family (ali already had kids at this point) does take a toll, and ali had no means to make money like how he did in boxing so he was drained on money. it's because of that drain he probably wanted to make up for lost time in the 70's when he lost his footwork and did the rope a dope stuff instead.

This is astonishing. Every time someone swings at him, they hit fresh air. The reflexes, and ability to read how is opponent moves make it look like he's playing with them. I don't know if he sparred with Bantam weights to dodge, and stand out of the way of incoming punches, but you need to see him filmed in slow motion to understand just how astonishingly fast he was. Rest in Peace, Muhammad Ali. "I am the Greatest" was a simple observation, and no more hyperbole than "the sky is blue".
@Mlai008 років тому
I liked how when dodging sometimes he doesn't even bother clearing the opponent's hand completely. He leans back just a few millimeters, enough so that the guy can touch his face but just not actually hit it. That's not just fast dodging that's precision dodging. LOL must be so frustrating to be those punchers!

You missed out the right hand leads Ali threw consistently in the Foreman fight. Those lead rights befuddled Foreman as he never thought anyone would be audacious enough to throw them against him, or be that fast to get away with it. Even at a heavier weight than his prime, slower and some could say less of a fighter, he still throw the best lead rights I’ve ever seen in a boxing match. The sweat spraying from Foreman’s head in slow mo was incredible. There will never, I repeat never be a fighter like Muhammad. People who think Tyson would have beaten him are deluded. He would have played with Mike.

He was fast, yes, but what really set him apart was his mastery of timing. He rarely had to react quickly to a punch, because he had already predicted that it was coming before it was even thrown.
