Some of his shots in that first set appeared so aggressive that it looked like strategy. He was going for it, especially with his backhand, and playing perfect attacking tennis. Nadal is a wall. Incredible that Zverev played that well and still caught an L in the first set.

@@bubufubu Dude that's a dumb comment. Ive followed Nadal since 05 and he had no right to win the first set, down 6-2 in the tie break, he was full stretch to save a shot from Zverev that should have been a winner and then he makes a miraculous running cross court forehand winner and still managed to save all those set points. I don't care how many times Nadal has won the FO, that was an amazing comeback.
@iBearD14
@iBearD14 2 місяці тому
@@Romans8-9 imo it was more an amazing choke by Zverev than an incredible save by Nadal. The point you describe is the perfect exemple of why Zverev would never have won this match. --> very good forehand & didn't go to the net (he moved backward lol) then he waits a bit before hitting his backhand only to hit in the direction where Nadal is replacing. 2 errors encapsulated in 1 shot. At this level and especially against Rafa, you pay the price. Not mentionning the easy volley Zverev missed right before. MVP of that tie break is Zverev mental weakness xd
@dachampions
@dachampions 18 днів тому
@@iBearD14nonetheless that would be it for everybody except Nadal. Both the forehand and the subsequent backhand are top class. He didn't expect Nadal to return the forehand, that's why he stayed behind. Sure, wrong play, but that was an impossible get for 99,99999% of players. You may say Zverev should put the backhand to the opposite corner , seeing that Nadal is running. But man, he didn't expect to need another shot, nevermind Nadal unbelievable running passing shot. Nobody would even try to reach that second ball.

@bubufubu Dulltard exposed. Djokovic has the best comebacks for sure. Just look at Wimbledon 2019, USO 2010 and 2011, 2022 Wimbledon, 2021 RG etc etc etc. When Djokovic goes down 2 sets, there's a higher chance of him winning the match than losing it nowadays. When Nadal goes down 2 sets, there's a 90% chance he's going to lose
@bubufubu
@bubufubu 5 місяців тому
@@kakashihatake1029 So, this (*cough* bullshit *cough*) theory of yours is limited to a player being down by two sets? Is that the Djokovic fanbase's narrow minded definition of what constitutes a "comeback"? Doucheavic fan exposed. Let's see Djokovic have to end his season due to a foot injury, not play any tennis for six months, and then come back to beat Medvedev in the AO Final after being down two sets to none and 0 - 40 at 2 - 3 in the third set. Put Djokovic in Nadal's shoes against Medvedev at the 2019 ATP Finals, down 30 - 40 at 1 - 5 in the third set. Or let's see Djokovic tear his abdomen early on and still pull out a five set win against Taylor Fritz at Wimbledon. Djokovic would have cracked and folded just like he did against Medvedev in the 2021 US Open Final, against Nadal in the 2013 US Open Final, against Nadal at the 2012 French Open, against Nadal at the 2014 French Open, and against Nadal in the 2022 French Open.

Zverev definitely couldve won it in tight 4-5 sets, if it werent for the rolled ankles. Such a high quality unfinished match, from Nadal too, way to hang in there.

Im a huge nadal fan but i must say the level Zverev exhibited here was unreal ! He pushed the king of clay to the limits ! Im not a blind fan like others to say nadal would have won it in straight sets had the match continued ! A true tennis fan will know it could have gone either way ! Another 80 min set going zverev's way would have totally flipped the tables

I think after a set who plays over 1 hour should ATP change the rule- and give the player 8-10 minutes recovery break. I mean we still playing today with a rule, where making before a long time where the sport was not to physcaly like today, the same also for long services game also, insteed 1 minute break should be 2-3 minute break, I cant imagine what would happends when zverev get not injury and how long would goes this match far

This match had the potential to be the best tennis match ever. But it should end this way or else it could have destroyed both players physically since it was already 3hrs when 2nd set still hadn’t finished. What a battle
@quentinhirschfeld9382
@quentinhirschfeld9382 2 місяці тому
It wasn't, the level from Rafa was relatively poor due to the conditions and Zverev choked badly in both sets. It had the potential to be the most titanic battle, but not the best match.
@nghialam1681
@nghialam1681 2 місяці тому
@@quentinhirschfeld9382 the fact that Zverev made 3 double faults in 2nd set shows how intense the match was. they could barely serve when they were both too exhausted. I wouldn't say Rafa's performance was poor since he outlasted his nemesis, who has always been his upper hand recently even on clay court. He can lose to anyone but always gives Rafa hard time. Zverev really knows how to beat Rafa, and if it wasn't for RG he would have beaten Rafa with his level of tennis
@quentinhirschfeld9382

@@nghialam1681 1) Rafa's spin was incredibly poor due to humidity and roof's closed, he was also physically exhausted (by his previous matches). 2) Zverev doesn't has the formula to beat Rafa, he's been lead 3-6 in the H2H, not to mention 2 of huis 3 victories came in indoor, Rafa is one of the worst World N°1 when it come to indoor.

This is why they dont play indoor clay matches very often. This might have been the slowest court i have ever watched live. Thats the reason every point was a marathon, no one could hit a winner. RG needs to find a way to get better AC Chatrier so its not a sauna if they close the roof. Rafas ball was basically ineffective and he had to grind out every point
