Namaste All, What Going On With Shipping UKposts Channel by Sal Mercogliano and with his guest William Boyle, was very interesting Video and thank you for these on-going updates, good information is always welcome too. Will the bottom of the channel have to be dredged and the bottom profile reshaped, maybe even the channel bottom depth increase too, that is across the whole width of the waterway too? That after all the bridge wretches and debris has been removed, or believed to have been removed, as no bridge wretches and debris can be left as underwater obstacles and danger to deep draft large vessels. Though will the Bridge Pier's or Column's old underwater large and massive reinforced concrete and steel foundation, have to be removed now too, or will they just be cleaned up and left hidden somewhere underwater? or be cut off at the waterline with navigation warning lights and buoy's place around them, to warning passing vessels where they are under the water? Also will what is left of this bridge, still standing the reinforce concrete pier's and Columns, plus roadway decking and the remaining bridge spans, have to face demolition work being carried out on them too, or just removed and taken down at some point too. So a whole new bridge can be built, that is if a new bridge is to be built at this same location at all? Or if the old bridge could be replaced by a new bridge, at a different location down the channel say? Or the Old bridge maybe being replaced by an underwater road and rail tunnel, that goes under the water channel bottom,? Or in fact an underwater tunnel is placed inside a dredged and dugout underwater trench, which crossing the water channel from North to South shorelines instead? What a mess!!!! Those divers risking their lives for this monumental task, kudos to them! Seems like cutting all that steel in zero visibility is extremely dangerous and will take thousands of labor hours. I'm sure the engineers have thoughts of all possibilities to clean it up, but what about blasting the wreckage? I imagine that might cause some environmental damage or present secondary problems too. I'm certainly no engineer but only thinking about other ideas. ...Placing air bladders underneath to try and float it up? They were thinking of this idea for the Titanic. But parts will break off ...Towing/pulling it out with multiple tug boats or heavy hauler ships? 🤔 ....Digging underneath the wreckage, let it sink more, and bury it? But they need to use that seafloor to rebuild the bridge piers. What else???
@adamg6643
@adamg6643 Місяць тому
Interesting... what about a hybrid solution? Plastic explosive in smaller amounts at key joints, enough to separate bridge members but not enough to destroy the river ecosystem? Could reduce (but not eliminate) diver labour and danger. Next, assuming the bridge sections are then small enough, maybe a crane ship to lift them off the riverbed rather than dragging them (which would basically be dredging)? I believe crane ships can lift upwards of 1000 tons.
@geoleo2597

there is a channel that has been dredged through the center to allow for large ships into the port and they only had about two feet from the bottom of the ship to the bottom of the channel. @@nassxt9031 this was a very unfortunate accident with no one at fault. But if we still wanna point fingers then this was a ship with a chibese or taiwanese flag, owned by a singaporean company. It was captained by an American, and rest of the crew was Indian. Also the port authorities can also be blamed for cutting away the tug boats before the ship crossed the bridge. But actually none of these parties are to blame. They all did well tp minimise the tragedy. When the power went out on the ship, the captain immediately called mayday and informed the port authorities about the situation. The authorities promptly had the bridge closed off to traffic w/in 90 seconds. Meanwhile, the captain and the crew were trying their best on the ship to gain back control, and the port authorities had sent the tug boats. Unfortunately the tug boats didnt reach the ship on time, but they did try. As the bridge grew nearer, the captain tgrew the anchor in a last desperate attempt to stop the ship, but such a massive ship doesnt stop so fast, and ultimately the brdige collapsed. Respect to all the construction workers who lost their lives, and i also respect the captain, the crew, and the authorities who worked quickly to minimise the loss of lives

Ship power failures usually occur in sequential stages rather than abruptly in the last minutes. Investigators should identify the root cause. In my incident investigation experience, commercial pressures often prioritize over safety. This situation is evident in the current wreck removal process, endangering everyone's safety. I believe that the ISM system in the Marine industry is merely a small rabbit attempting to evade commercial interests, likened to pursuing wolves. By the way, I suggest investigators should take sufficient timelines to identify the genuine root cause instead of rushing due to commercial reasons.

There's a lot of factors. Could have been wear and tear. Could have been built improperly and no one noticed the hazards. And yeah people often take shortcuts as far as boats and ships goes especially lack of maintenance.
@omarmclune667

@@Tylnorton the bridge was actually having preventative maintenance work during the collapse. "Fixing potholes" I've never seen a pothole on that bridge over the past 10+ years of daily usage. I bet the new bridge will be well funded though. Pkz forgive my untrusting vibe

....might wanna leave .. most of it where it is, at the bottom , that visible is too dangerous just remove enough to make a temporary safe passage for the critical ships and remove anything harmful to the wildlife and slowly start hauling away what can be moved safely, probably start looking for a new location or potetial new portway in that area for the sake of efficiency

They turn off comments on most of these videos because of the outrage of the cover-up. There need not be any tax dollars used in replacing the bridge. US citizens are required to have insurance for just about everything, so is a shipping company. Who operates the boat again? Oh yeah, that part is left out. Wonder why...
@davecooper3238
@davecooper3238 Місяць тому
One of things on all insurance policies is. Don’t admit liability. They are not going to pay out without a fight.
@TheRealMrBlackCat
@TheRealMrBlackCat Місяць тому
@@davecooper3238 I agree... I would rather my tax dollars be spent on that fight, rather than compensating for a poorly run ship line.
@davecooper3238
@davecooper3238 Місяць тому
@@TheRealMrBlackCat Don’t matter what you or I think. The insurance company’s instruction to the ship owner will be don’t admit responsibility. The insurance company’s are going to fight it out in the international courts before as much as 50 cents is paid out. That could take years. I suppose we could have said we are not doing anything until the money is sorted but how much would that cost.

Accidentally or not, *criminal charges* should be filed for those responsible for the loss of lives. The ship was 🇸🇬 Singaporean-flagged and Chinese-owned. - This same vessel had failed its propeller and was involved in a similar accident a few years back.
