7:54 - I grew up on the ZX Spectrum - it did have the 'hacker port sticking out the side like this' :-) fond memories of interfacing to decapped DRAM to make an imager, coding in Z80 assembler, turning a Brother thermal typewriter into a pen plotter and realizing how fast a microsecond really was when trying to make mechanics move.

The Atari 800xl had a hacker port as well.. The 6502 bus was brought out to a 50 pin IDC connector in the back.

I have to defend my Sinclair. I still have the parallel port I designed and built for my Sinclair. It was an edge connector, not pins, but the breakout WAS there for the hacking. Need the pics ?

I spent a summer learning z80 assembly and machine code so I could insert an ascii table into the rom's print function.

@@aalhard I had - still have, actually - A Z80 system built from scratch using plans from Kilobaud and a video display from Byte magazines. Had to 'assemble' code by hand. Good times :-)

Double-stick tape... I have a big roll Chinese cloned Tesa tape. Smelly stuff, probably not as sticky, but handy for things like worn stickers and rubber feet on laptops. In theory, they can be used to temporarily hold smartphone and tablet screens if they were glued in the first place. The real stuff used in devices that don't have IP67+ rating is laser cut 3M double-sided adhesive film with some number that includes 3s, but that stuff is just messy to deal with and is meant to be permanent (and you need to apply it to clean surfaces). Devices that are marketed as "waterproof" probably use a much more annoying adhesive. The little guy with castellated vias is pretty much a breakout board for that SAMD51, but with nice things added on. There's a guy who did something very similar with the main chip of an Arduino Mega, he calls it the Naked Mega, and it's super cool. Ahhh... I need that ESP32 with the external antenna, because it's going to go inside of a big metal thing and control a bunch of LED strips. If it comes in a Feather form factor, that would be even better (but not totally necessary). The Raspberry Pi 400 keyboard reminds me of the Apple IIc... and indeed I think it's the best possible successor to the IIc, because the IIc was also meant to be portable. Sort of. It could resemble the ADB keyboard on the IIgs, but I don't think those were flat keys. I'd love to see someone come up with an indie board for the CM4, to be honest, that thing is going to be an absolute beast with the available PCIe.

This was my first time using the clear adhesive squares (or any Adafruit product). I made the mistake of applying the tape to the acrylic glass first before putting the glass on my RGB matrix panel. You can definitely see the edge of the tape if the tape ends in the middle of the LED. I think this could have been avoided if I applied to the LED matrix panel first and aligning the tape so it covers entire LED bulbs instead of half.

I came to the comments to check if someone had pointed out that we Brits (especially those who grew up with the Sinclair) would definitely not say Zee X, but would say Zed X. ;)
