Honestly, all the Leafs goals were bad turnovers when the Hurricanes defense was playing sloppy. Hurricanes got their crap together and started playing their game the way they usually do. Strong comeback by the Hurricanes and a statement game that they can pull themselves together when they get sloppy. All without Terraveinan, so Aho was out there without his sidekick and he was still a menace

With the last 2 weeks you can really tell Guentz and Kuzy are getting into the swing of things. My Canes probably should have lost this. Rod played with the lineup (as he is wont to do) and it nearly cost us a game against a playoff team. Between the blue lines was a real weakness for us tonight. We looked like we did when we got swept by the Panthers for a lot of the game. But the positives, Kooch got beat 1v1 all regulation but was solid for our shootout which is clutch, Guentzal showed that he is still every bit as clutch as he used to be for the Pens. This Canes team really has probably the best chance this year at a cup that theyve had since our playoff streak started 5 years ago.

Under a minute left in regulation and Keefe had JT and Brodie out there to close the game out. How is this clown still employed?

Since winning on the road against an injury riddled Vegas and then beating the Aves and Rangers, Toronto has not looked good against contenders. Boston for the double, Carolina now. Philly the other night? Please, they got popped tonight too and are a decent team but not contender. Where is that physicality we were promised with the deadline signings? Better yet, where has that mentality been all season long that justified keeping Keefe? Teams just clog up the middle and nobody has shooting lanes late in the year because Cup contenders understand this. Leafs? Cannot hold down leads with less than two minutes, heck even less than 10 seconds. Players look lost, don't understand their assignments. John Tavares is trying but he just isn't the guy who he once was and perhaps the only good decision Keefe has made, dropping him down the lineup to bully minnows of other lines. Matthews for half an overtime, then second to shoot in the penalty? The guy was spent. Sometimes need to rely on Marner or go with a young guy and just let him try something fresh. Matthews needs a game or two off to rest and rekindle his fire because he looks checked out. Yes, he is a great competitor and wants to play every minute of every game but he looks tired, lacks that zip and he isn't scoring as well as before which shows. Yeah, he scored against Philly but well after the game had been opened up. Leafs need a physical wake up call and they need it now.

Doesn't have much to do with this game, but I remember earlier in the season the Sportsnet analysts said that Toronto would have an easier path to the finals than Edmonton because they "had less competition, only Carolina and that's it" or something along those lines.

After watching this game, I can only sit back and wonder, how anyone can ever willingly support this team? They they were, 4-2 up with about 5 or so minutes to go, and they THROW IT AWAY. What makes anyone in Toronto think they'll do well in the playoffs at all? What makes them think they'll even go on and win the bloody thing? They just do not have what it takes to close out games when it matters most, and this one was no different.

Carolina played well enough to squeak a win in O/T. Give credit where due. Keefe has some ugly days ahead of him. Here it is in a nut-shell: Tavares got a goal while his over-all performance was marginal, at best. Did Matthews dress? Perhaps the cab Nylander was driving got them lost on the way to the arena? The top performers last night were: Roberston Nies Dewar Gregor McMann McCabe Edmunson Lybushkin Samsonov. Are these the marquis players you built a franchise around? Are these guys impacting your salary cap? If Marner's absence is being touted as THE REASON, then this team has massive concerns! First of all, he is NOT the real reason and it begs the question, "Are these marquis players THAT bad or this a concerted effort? Here is something you cannot dispute. IF Marner is at the core of this substandard performance we have had to suffer from high-salary players, then the Leafs will get dismantled in the play-offs. All the opposition has to do is target Marner...done....good-bye Leafs!?!?! Keefe has to sit down and have a chat with Matthews, Nylander and Tavares. Enough is enough and I appreciate how in this day-and-age, they'll get rid of Keefe before they address the CORE concern! How about we institute a per-game revenue-based bonus? Matthews and Nylander wouldn't get a nickel after last night, if it was up to me. You have to feel for Robertson whose send-down to the Marlies, frequent mention of being trade bait, and VERY limited playing time to-date is supposed to convey that he is just not good enough. Let me tell you something. Unlike some "other guys", Robertson gives you 100% EVERY single time he steps onto the ice. I'll take that every time! He might not get a lot of ice time. He might be played sparingly on the 3rd and 4th lines. He might not get the situational advantages of actually having a decent pair of D behind him (let's not even go there!!) and yet, he plays his heart out for a team that has OVERTLY treated him like crap. Not sure what Keefe's beef is but watching Roberston and seeing his frustration based on the understanding that he himself is not playing to his capacity - through NO fault of his own - breaks my heart. Samsonov gave this team a GREAT chance to put it away during regular time. Better study the videos boys! You didn't lose this one in O/T.
