Hello I am now 77 and have lived threw many winter storms, no power and roads closed. Having a wood stove is a life saver. You have warmth, can cook and have some light. So cozy up, make some tea and get a good book. And step outside to feel the excitement of the storm to then return to your cozy place.

I am a 57 yr old women. I find great inspiration from you. I wish I lived near you I need people like you in my life. People who are doers. Not crying about what they don’t have or what they can’t do. You take what you have and go after what you want. That’s living on purpose. You will have what you want.

My dad bought a house where the original part of the structure was a log cabin built in 1865. Additions were put on in the 1950's. It was in bad shape with the logs covered up. Folks thought he was crazy. We fixed that place up and to see it now compared to back when he bought it is witness to an amazing transformation. Don't give up Alyssa.

Power outages and snowstorms are challenging, but I think it reminds us to not forget the basics. If we have food, shelter, and a warm fire, life isn't that bad, especially when you have a great dog like Rio to share it with.

From my perspective, I’d say that storm did you some good. Its like Mother Nature reminding us to take a break and relax (in a sense).

Be glad you have your dog to keep you company that helps a lot

Last winter, 22-23, our furnace died during the polar vortex that brought -25 F temps to our area. It took 8 days to get it replaced. My wife, myself, out two dogs and our 30 year old Sun Conure stayed in our bedroom. We managed to stay quite warm, well fed, and safe. It was not anything I would chose to go through again, but it was a valuable experience for us. We have always been prepared for such, and it paid off.

I’ll make sure to have my coffee for this one. ☕️ YAH! Haha

Alissa-you’re living fully, and more purposefully than so many people are able to in this huge/small world. The thing about life, and the many hurdles we face, is that we always get by. Taking time to stop, and get down to the basics of just heating your house, reading a book, and feeding your body and soul, are the gifts storms like that bring. I’m up near Nederland, and we got over 4 feet of snow. It was awesome to be “stuck” in our home without needing a thing, for nearly a week. My mantra in life, is that I am more blessed and lucky than most of the people in this world-so are you, little sister! I’m 63, and a 5th generation Coloradan, and I truly believe we live in the absolute best place in this world. Keep on rocking life!

Just remember that the best DIYer started with zero knowledge and that best DIYer still makes mistakes. He/she might be better in hiding those mistakes, but they are made regardless. You'll be fine and your study and whatever room(s) is/are next will be beautiful.

I've been watching you kinda loosely over the years, and you're always so captivating. I love watching you mostly because of your positive energy and nice smile. I am a fellow traveler, seeker, and renovator. College educated but carpenter by trade, worked in lots of different areas of construction, built my own truck camper based off of a 1969 pathfinder back in 2001, from NC but my heart is west/PNW and AK. Lived in colorado, montana, and AK for a bit. Built my own house in NC. Tricking out a high top contractor aluminum camper shell now on the Dodge. Plan on renovating the truck camper and atleast documenting it, maybe throw it up on you tube? Seriously considering a mid size bus build. Anyway, you're awesome to watch. I've let loneliness and the hard hours of building/renovating with no help drag me down, but when i see you smiling or being goofy it reminds me to not be too serious, and not to quit, you inspire me to tackle what i need to tackle so i can get out there and enjoy life! It is recommended to clip your candle wick to 1/4” before lighting them, reduces the black smoke, therefore ceilings stay whiter. Love your stories.

I definitely resonated with you dealing with people criticizing your building/renovating endeavors. I am so glad you aren't letting that stop you. Years ago, I bought a van and tried renovating it into a home, having ZERO building skills or knowledge. I dealt with a lot of insecurity and shame, But I am so glad I did what a could. There were a thousand mistakes made, But I had to make those mistakes in order to learn. I watch your posts, I'm in Wyoming. I feel peaceful watching your videos for a year now. I have done what you have, My parents had a cabin up in the mountains in California. I would drive up there from San Diego stopping by a feed store to get a bag of peanuts for the squirrels . I fixed a lot of things for them. After driving 120 miles I would sit in my car for a few minutes in the dirt driveway and smell the pine trees and hear the wood-peckers squawking. I had the beautiful cabin to myself (my parents were living elsewhere). Your words help me go back to those times. I am going to be like you now and its all true " I drove up from a hot place in the city to go to a special place, upon arriving I sat in my car exhausted with my windows down. I would just listen in silence to hear the birds and smell the pine trees." I am kinda like you. You are so kind to share your stuff. I had a cute dog too, he was never on a leash either and got to run around freely over most of this country!

My therapist says similar things about taking my shot, and the like. It’s easier said than done. I am impressed that you can overcome the fear of what might go wrong, and embracing what might go right. Best of luck to you.
