I doubt it was by choice, they probably had a lot of CPU's that didn't pass quality control, sort of stuck in the middle of SKU's and just created new SKU's that these rejects could pass automatically.

Its out of desperation because AM5 hasnt sold anywhere near as well. People have either refused to upgrade or bought LGA 1700 from Intel(12th,13th, 14th gen). The arrival of the 7800X3D and cheaper DDR5 ram definitely boosted sales, but not to the point they wanted. Zen 3 on the other hand is STILL selling well due to how cheap it is and how many boards can support it. Believe me if Zen 4 actually sold well, any support for AM4 wouldve ended a long time ago. I can promise you AM5 wont have the same support and will likely end support after 2025 when they bring in AM6 or its equivalent, and more than likely they will do like Apple and Intel and switch to Big/Little core design and everybody claiming e cores arent real cores will be praising AMD for having even more e cores than Intel due TSMC making their chips for them and giving them a big node advantage. Which is great honestly and i’ll definitely consider them at the time and whether its worth sticking to my 12700K, dropping in a cheap 13700K/14700k for the extra frames and ecores, going with whatever Intel has or AM6. But i think AMD took a lot of Lessons from AM5 and not the ones a lot of people are hoping for, and honestly i don’t necessarily think thats a bad thing. There were a lot of unforeseen issues earlier AM4 boards had and a lot of accommodations AMD had to make in order to keep their promises. I genuinely dont think a Board should have more than 3 full generations(counting zen 4 and Zen 4X3D as one gen because it is) on it. At some point it gets in the way of progress and its a lot to put on a board and a lot of newer technology you cant put on it. As much as people brag about dropping a 5800X3D on a X370 board, the thought of that is super not appealing to me and and all the fussiness that brings and being stuck on PCIE gen 3.0 and other stuff

You're right. The problem is... AMD did the same. Or even worse in case of RX 7800 XT with same performance as RX 6800 XT. RX 7800 XT should be RX 7700 XT at best. Of course RX 7800 XT price is lower than RX 6800 XT, so we're back to the thing HUB often repeat - don't look at names, just price/performance. BTW This RTX 4090 with "price out of this world" has the best price/perf uplift generation to generation. Even counting price of RTX 3090, that was from before crypto an inflation, not the absurd 3090 Ti. RTX 4090 is out of reach for most people, but it makes more sense (comparing to RTX 4080) in this generation than in previous (comparing to RTX 3080). And I'm not sure that's a good thing.

2080 super released Jul 23, 2019 at 699usd. 4080 super release Jan 21 2024 at 999usd 4080FE is about 120% faster. adjusting for margin of error, you are still getting double the performance for less than double the price. This does seem very reasonable indeed. Broke people need to work more instead of complaining about things being expensive.

Imagine you've got a PC parts store and you have loads of 4080s and 4070s in stock for which you paid more (at wholesale) than the new Supers' MSRPs. It's not confusing if you understand how memory works. They can easily double it without touching the bus or reworking other aspects of the GPU. But a 50% increase can only be explained by a bigger bus and thus an entirely different GPU configuration. Which is more expensive to make and comes with performance gains hence the higher tier/price

The model number explains the speed. The vram capacity is just that, vram capacity. 4070 > 4060 no matter the vram size.

4080 Super should work out around $1299 Dollarydoos, but probably sell more like $1599 - $1649. 4070 Ti Super should be $1199 but will probably go for $1299-1349. 4070 Super Should be $899 will probably sell for $999-1099. 4070 non super should be $829 will probably sell for $799, given it's already selling for under it's new MSRP without competition from super cards. If you're not getting them for that price you're better off seeing what AMD prices the 7900XT and 7900XTX for in response. That's how I'm gonna play it.

It's true 4070 card should have been begin with. But i suggest you should avoid supporting ngreedia anymore. Just buy RX 7900 XT when they lower prices which will be better deal cause it performs the same as RTX 4080 which is the same as RTX 4070ti basically and you get more Vram. Plus you avoid the 12HVPWR connector that is design flawed even on lower end cards. The Connector will wear faster and will have less safety headroom on powerdraw.

While I agree that AMD does offer better value cards, it's important to be honest. 7900xt is slightly faster than the 4070ti and the 7900xtx is the amd card that trades blows with the 4080. Still, the 7900xt could end up being a good deal if amd drops the price to compete with the 4070ti super. It looks as though the 4070ti super will be faster in raster now (we'll have to wait for 3rd party comparisons to know for sure). So the 7900xt will probably have to drop to $699 to be competitive as it may find itself slower in both raster and DLSS/FSR.

AMD is generally 1 gen behind in raytracing and I already have a 3000 series card. Plus DLSS is generally better than FSR and it seems like supersampling is going to be the standard going forward. Not to mention DLSS 3 frame gen, while AMD's offering to match that seemed to be lackluster. So... yeah. Until AMD catches up in those fronts, I'm unhappily staying with NVIDIA. But once they catch up, I will go back to AMD (last time I had AMD was the RX480). It's up to AMD to catch up and stop just bringing GPUs that only has "cheaper price and sometimes better raster performance" as their only plus. They don't have to go after the 90 cards, but at least be competitive with the 70 or 80 cards and match NVIDIA's festures.

Since it was announced at CES (a world wide event) I would be very surprised if this isn't a world wide release. AMD didn't make much fuss about the 5600X3D other than saying "it exists and Microcenter will handle the entire campaign".

It will be a wide release, though there could still be distribution limitations. These are lower binned chips, so there will be a limited supply like with the 5600x3D, but since these just clock lower, the pool of chips that AMD has is likely much larger than the 5600x3D pool which actually had to have cores disabled. Also 5600x3D turned out to be not as limited as we thought, it's still pretty easy to get one in the US, so hopefully in most regions people will have a chance to get one.

microcenter has a 5800x3d bundle with ram and mobo if you have one near you for only $350.

@@stangamer1151 a lot of AM4 owners come from Zen2 or even Zen+ CPUs, for them the 5700X3D is GREAT value. I have a 3700X on a X570 board, and I'm seriously considering the upgrade.

They will go there once remaining 6700/6700XT and 6650XT, respectively, stock dries up. AMD is facing a balancing act between giving something to people who insist on buying current gen and people looking for any bargain.

Neural net image generation has improved rapidly on AMD over the last few months, and LLMs are in a pretty good state right now if you hunt around for supported software so I'd definitely wait... 5000 series is a year or so away & NV price correcting with a mid-gen referesh points to lower than expected sales; I'd expect next gen to have significnatly better price:performance. Also with NV doing the artificial obsolescence thing with DLSS versions and VRM over different GPU generations you'll probably see a much bigger feature set upgrade too if you're looking for upscaling & frame gen (which are both themselves a bit of a technological crutch as the render pipelines transition from raster to raytracing).

It's mainly just video editing which I'm having a hard time with how advance Nivida's cuda is for that work load. I do that as a hobby so it's not too bad. But it would be nice to have. I think I'll just wait. It's just seeing NV new products made me want to just splurge but I guess it's possible to just wait for 5000 series or to look at AMD's offfering if they can cut their prices and slash them down.

It absolutely will. Just check the difference between the 4060 ti 16 GB and the 4070 12 GB, which doesn't even have the 256 gig bus. It is a pretty significant difference.

It's possible in some games, but really the issue with the 4060ti everyone had is that it's too expensive for what it can achieve in games for both versions. The 4060 8GB is the exact same card hardware wise as the 16GB model. Changing VRAM speed changes performance as well, but that doesn't apply here. GPU VRAM is no different than system RAM it's a storage space. More storage doesn't always mean more performance, since you have to manage that storage. The bus and the core are going to contribute most to performance. For the 4060TI 16GB faster core, more power, or more voltage would increase performance way more than a wider bus would most likely. I would assume the 7600XT would be able to perform better with a larger bus given the 7600XT actually changed the core configuration, so it has a much better chance to be limited at the bus. At the same time when selling half a million cards saving $3 (or whatever the actual cost is) per GPU to keep the same bus means $1.5million AMD gets to keep. Even if it was 16 bits wider I'd rather have that over the same bus, but I'm not AMD.

Nvidia already is calling the 4070TI super that, so if they care to make refreshes below the 4070 I assume they'd share the same name. Whatever makes the most money. Also, you are correct for the 7700 spot, which is why I think there was such a massive price gap between the 7600 and the 7700XT at release. As for blue team's next GPU release I really hope the current rumors are wrong that Battlemage will be integrated only (laptop, handhelds, mini PC's), but that's what I've been hearing thus far. At best I see them trying to aim for a 4060TI it coming out a year late and the performance is closer to a 4060. I say this since they've promised more than they've delivered in the last 4-5 years.

I'm affraid you won't be able to find a RTX 4080 Super for (much) lower prices than the 4080 now.. Supply will be low and mark up pricing will be rampant in retail, especially in the 1st few months after launch.. By the time it becomes a reasonble buy the next RTX 50-series is probably around the corner already..

I wouldn't feel too bad. The 4070Ti is a very good card and 12GB ram is still great. I was using a 1080Ti with 11GB ram for many years and that was running games fine at 2K resolution so the ram issue is not a big deal unless you are running a card with less than 10GB ram. Finally there will always be something new that will be better than the previous model so unless you feel compelled to upgrade every one or two years don't worry about it.

@samgoff5289 A few, but not too many currently. The problem though is that a lot of games are using close to that 16GB limit at 4K already, and so it won't be long until they start needing more. So you pay $1,000 for 4K gaming only to have to lower the resolution or game settings in a year or so. If I'm paying that much for a graphics card, I'm not thinking about what it can do just today, but tomorrow as well. I wouldn't really consider the 4080 normal/super to be a consistently reliable 4K card unless it had at least 20GB of VRAM.

I have a 4080 and run it at 4k 120hz. No game needs 16gb of vram. 12gb max.

@kseries1981 There are literally already videos out there of newer games using closer to 16GB of VRAM at 4K. You either aren't playing those games (which is fine), or you aren't playing them at max settings which is what I'd expect to be able to do for a $1,200 GPU that was only a year old.

That's what the 4080 should have launched for.. crazy Nvidia marketing is working, we now call it a "pleasant surprise". Whereas if it had launched at $999 it could have dropped by now.

no it isnt a good sign. They have not (and will not) launch a 4060 Super. So your cheapest GPU that can play modern UE5 games at 60FPS or higher is a 550$ 4070 which is only there to upsell you to a 650-700$ 4070 Super which is just a cut down 4070ti that was selling at 800$. This entire launch is a scam

@@Altrop The 1080ti launched for 699 $ in 2016, that's almost 900 $ today with inflation, a 4080 super for 999$ is very close to that golden GPU.

I would personally wait it out. The jump in performance from 30 to 40 series doesn't seem worth the cost imo. The jump in performance from 20 to 30 series was pretty big

I'm in the same boat. I'm leaning towards waiting since fsr3 tech is being modded to help the 3000 cards with frame gen and also waiting for some good new updates to the 4k oled monitors

If history is repeating itself, the 50 series will drop about 1.5 years later with amazing price to performance, will immediately get scalped out of existence, then a new cryptoboom will happen. Depends if you're willing to wait that long.

Why buy late 2022 in 2024?.. next gen is like in late 2024 (mostly) In graphic cards.. buy at 1st months unless U want to see your high end card goes into mid class after a few months Lol

The 3080 was sold at 699 and 3070 Ti at 549-599. These prices are still very horrible. I'll stick with my 6700 Xt and get 7900xtx it's a beast GPU

Simple answer my friend - Artificial scarcity.

They are putting as much of their production capacity towards AI as possible because it's much more profitable. MUCH more. That's also why prices are high, they're targeting the people that would pay that much first. At lower prices the cards would be out of stock.

The only chip maker who can make these is at full capacity so the prices are high and the only way to make profit when prices are high is to sell to enterprise (servers, datacenters)

The thing is ! Why do you need 16 gb ? If a game requires more than 12 gb at desired resolution this card will not reach more than 30fps. It is just weak no matter how much vram has, like 3060 12gb.. games requiring 10-12gb ran trash on it cuz it was just too slow.
