This two man tent from oex looks a great backpack or camping tent but the Poles will take a couple of times to get use to, oex tent are great in all weathers what the UK Weather will draw it them.

Laughed my head off watching you trying to suss out the instructions. Noticed a few comments about suitability in snow and wintery conditions. Let’s be honest, it’s a £90 tent. I’ve got one of these and I know it’s not a 4 season tent, so I wouldn’t expect it to stand up to snow and mountain top winds. I wouldn’t consider it for that sort of use but it’s perfectly suitable for most general spring, summer and autumn camping and for £90 well worth considering. Thanks for the review.

Love my rakoon 2.0 I had it up in 60mph wind and rain in Cornwall. It was solid. I stayed in it for 10 days never leaked and woke up in a giant puddle. Ground sheet never leaked even on a puddle.

This tent is punching well above its weight, I've been out in it in freezing temperatures and also 30+ degrees C and it performs really well for two people, (6ft tall and big boned😁) couldn't be happier. it can take a little while to work out how to put it up the first time, but try it at home first, it makes sense once you've done it once. I know this tent may not be the same materials and quality as an MSR, but the OEX looks very similar and is cheaper and lighter, it may not stand up to high winds, but it handles 20-30mph fine, i know which one i'm going for, OEX for me.

I've just bought one of these. I think the pole configuration is brilliant. Opens up the roof/head space. And I think the 2 guys on each side it meant to be secured with one peg. Penny pinching I would say because obviously more secure with a peg each.

I’ve got this tent and in the wind and rain I’ve had no problems so far. I’ve got the weight down to 2.5 kg by swapping out the pegs and only using one bag. If you’re expecting snow and you take this out camping you’ll be taking the wrong tent as it’s not a 4 season tent. We all have different ideas and requirements about the gear we buy and this is simply a first thoughts video, cheers Dan and I look forward to seeing what you think once you’ve used it.

Hi mate, just came across your video. I have this tent and I've been in a couple of stormy camps in the Cairngorms in Scotland and it didn't let me down. I was confused with the pole set up when I put it up first on the garden. But once it's sussed out it's actually very simple lol. As pointed out the cross over design does add strength. Good review mate 👍. ATB Martin

The whole point of reviewing a product is to use it....use it for at least a few months then bring your thoughts across and how it performs...take it out in rain, possibly snow, wind and see how it stands up to the elements...don't just take it out of the wrapper and "REVIEW" it !! You cannot get an accurate representation of the kit without using it...and I feel this is where you get the dislikes and bad comments, as people feel the same way. At least I'm being honest with you, and hope you take this on board. Take care.

Just bought one! I did look at the top flatish bit before buying. My thoughts were the same as yours. Decided to buy though as I think it's more versatile. Great ventilation by the looks of it and the inner could be used by itself, even under a tarp.. Only had it not even 24 hours lol, so time will tell.. Oh, the poles are done that way for strength in high winds.

@alexwood5026

I wonder if the inner tent is clipped to the poles that way to give you more of a gap between the inner and the outer tent to avoid them touching in wind - to stop moisture getting in if they touched

Hey Dan, love your videos. I have this tent and other then having some trouble at times adjusting the tautness of the fly, have no issues. I've had put Iin some heavy downpours for more than two nights straight and the inside was as dry as a bone inside, plenty of room, though find the vestibules a bit small for anything larger than a 45 litre backpack. It's handled some strong winds on Dartmoor without issue but like others here, not sure how she'd handle wet snow on the roof. The only other niggle I have is the inner tent doors fall inward as does the vestibule flaps, can be a bit of a pain in rain or heavy dew. Cheers

That roof was my concern when you stuck it up, no chance for snow, but, I think as a summer tent this could be pretty nice, lots of space would be nice to be in, not sure it would take wind that well seems tall and steep sides but nice overall

I've just bought this tent. Seems to get good reviews as a decent tent for the price. Ive not put it up yet, but gonna kip out in it in the garden soon. Poles are a bit weird until you get used to them apparently cos you connect bottom left to top left, and bottom right to top right then cross them when you pull them up. Good point about the snow Dan. Cheers.

the tent is extremely easy to set up. The poles go on the same side lengthwise (one at each side) not crossed over.Takes 5 minutes max to set up. Plenty space inside. The only thing I would say it needs is a clip for the narrow ends to pull the fly sheet out at the bottom. It does come with a luminous strip along the bottom edges which is good. If you take the poles out the tent packs down much smaller.

I enjoyed your review, funny as.... I have this tent and have used it in spring/summer.It's great...... I'm about to take it to Snowdonia in April with snow and -3c forecast. I agree about your concerns with the roof, I'll let you know how it goes. I would take a better suited tent, if I had one, but this is the tent I have. Just a side note about the poles, the reason they don't cross at the top like other dome tents is to allow two large side doors. This was a selling point for me as I often share the tent with my partner, and we don't have to climb other each other for a piss in night. Great video, keep it up thanks.

its a decent little tent you can easily sit up in.. Thanks for posting mate, I like the double doors and the space you have inside, but if I am honest, looks like it could be a bit flimsy in a high wind, and as you pointed out, there is the chance for water to pool and potential leaks. Probably be a good spring/summer/early autumn tent in mild conditions, but as with everything, I would need to try it and then i could give a proper opinion on it. Just a bit too heavy for me at nearly 3kg (not being soft lol) for long walks. If they could get the weight down, I might have a bash at it, as it looks pretty good value, and you get a lot of tent for your 90 quid. All the best pal. Nick

This tent is practically an identical copy of an early incarnation of the excellent Salewa Micra. The cross poles design is plenty strong enough for mountain winds - saw these being used by rock climbers at the base of the Throne of Zeus in Olympus - but like I said that was the Salewa. Couldnt vouch for the workmanship on the OEX. And thanks for the review - interesting stuff!

Theyve used clips instead of sleeves to give some more space between the inner and the outer which helps air flow and reduces condensation. To be honest it looks like a better version of an MSR tent,it does after all have a 5000HH not suitable for heavy snow maybe due to gaps between the fly sheet and the inner mostly being mesh but the way the poles are crossed gives extra strength on two sides that and the way the front and back peg out would ide say make it s good tent in strong winds and rain. Thanks for your many uploads always a pleasure mate.

First tent, been on dartmoor 5 times. Its a good affordable tent, I want to try putting it into one bag though condense it down, and have poles on outside of bag. I like the mesh on the doors but condensation can get bad. I'd prefer the outer door zipped from top down though so can just poke your head out instead of opening the whole thing. Good space, was awkward to put up at first but gets easier, just longer especially in wind! - I'm thinking of getting cloud peak 2 for second tent easier to put up. But this one Is ideal! Not tried it in heavy rain or snow yet tho.

the poles crossing at more strength .but they need a hub to make it more rigid where the poles cross over .making it easier as you put it up as it holds the poles inplace ? .msr use that design on thier poles and it works ..poles swivel hubs cost around £4 each and easy to fit from amazon .worth buying . this racoon looks a cracking tent dan .but it is only a 3 season tent dan .its not designed for 4 season use ( in snow ) ? atb kev
@KevinWoodsWorkshop
@KevinWoodsWorkshop 3 роки тому
I think the poles are designed to keep the inner tent from touching the outer fly sheet. Plenty of tents including high quality geodesic mountain tents work in the same way. That tent has not been designed for winter camping in snow but probably ok for 3 season camping at low level.

Really good summer tent, hardly any condensation and fairs well in heavy rain. Get your lines right though or you'll be looking at a flat tent in winds over 50mph. Takes me 5 mins to set up and if you're expecting decent weather you can get away without using the outer and use the inner as a mosquito net. You made me laugh as I had the same issue with the poles at first, but that's what you get when you don't read the instructions first 🤣.

Great review. Bought this today from GO after returning the OEX Hyena 2 after one trip, which is a tunnel tent with cheap fibreglass poles and useless steel pegs that rotate annoyingly. Not recommended! Price difference was only a tenner, as the Rakoon 2 sells for £75 with a current 15% additional discount. Don't know where the £280 RRP comes from, but the cost is pretty low for a decent quality tent. Also have Phoxx 2 v2 and Bobcat 1 for wild camping/trekking. Mate, for me it's outer pitch first (or both at the same time) for a winter tent or nothing at all. Wouldn't ever bother with an inner pitch first unless I knew the weather meant I didn't need to use the fly. At 2.7kg it's a little lardy.

I’d consider it a fair weather tent. No snow and no getting the tent up or down in heavy rains when it can get soggy before you get up the fly sheet. But other than that, lots of people only camp out in fair weather if they can so for that I guess it’s okay.
