NO ONE, not even 1 person, on You Tube channels that I watch does their entire home build, & other structures, all alone, just by themselves; cuts all their own lumber from their land, lifts & lugs it all.....grows, hunts & fishes for most of their food, never complains & never appears weary from it all & could never match your production level! and....make a living doing it! You are a one man construction crew! You said you had to start over in business after a big loss years ago & now you’re starting over on a new homestead build....Your ability to “pick up, put together a plan B & move on” along with your work ethic is an inspiration. Totally love seeing the progress and watching you ideas with everything you create. I love the protection you show for calli. You are smart. You know how to do things right. I wish my husband were still here to watch your shows with me. He loved all your showers. Sometimes I still cry a little because he and I would talk about all you do. After we built our family a large log house in the trees 35 years ago we do understand the challenge. He and I built it ourselves and it was beautiful. Thank you for stirring my memories. I am 73 now and my health is a challenge. Take care and peace and love to your family.

ditto. It's taught me a lesson a too. I am always in much too much of a hurry because I want the job done - then it's done poorly and I have to spend time to correct things. Watching Shawn, I thought "he takes his time to get it right. What does it matter if at the end of the day he has done a fifth of what he needs. At the end of 5 day, the job is done, and done well".

The thing is people see you working with everything but they have no idea what goes into it oh, you have to Mill all the logs and treat them. I just can't wait for the finished product. As a kid, I remember my father building our house using hand hand saws, hammers and nails. There's something very satisfying watching construction without pneumatic nail guns and power saws. Lots and lots of respect for the way the cabin is coming together! Thank you for letting us come along for the ride.

just think the 2/3rd's he hasnt built in the basement are all set to be expanded into already ... he can go from the outside down and in or from the inside across and in ... and all that basic support means 2 floors no problems ... plus the attic ... so he can put his bedroom and a kids guest rooms all upstairs with a night pot .... and use all the ground floor for kitchen a living area ...and he still has room to make a summer kitchen on one side or the other and cover the area between them for a breezeway so he can sook outside mostly in the summer kk=irchen and get a cool breeze across the main door keeping the main cabin cooler

Love to watch true craftsmanship and what it takes to survive in the wilderness. It reminds me of my Grandparents, Dad and his brothers and sisters living off grid. Hunting and fishing, growing and planting vegetables, fruit tree's and preserving food. I remember as a child bathing in the creek and Mum would put me and my sister on the horse to take us back up to the house. It's an honest life. Kali is in her element.

It almost feels like I am there in person watching that waterfall come out of those rocks wow so neat. We use to do a lot of hiking and camping up around Mt. Rainer Glacier in Washington State and many other places too. We learned to love the environment. Because there were 8 of us kids (just a few of us) mom and dad always had to take two cars to get us all in and our camping gear. God bless you and Cali toooo.

I started watching your channels a couple of years ago when I took an early retirement. Today I realized how addicted I am to your channels when I kept checking to see if your video was out. I am spending my time doing something a "little less" difficult than what you are doing. That's playing my guitars and learning how to repair and build them. LOL.

The root cellar is such a huge difference over the under the floor icebox, and if you can get a well working under the cabin it will be a very comfortable home. Always great to see your progress. Stay safe.

Love your energy, commitment and ambition Shawn. Watching your working videos give me boost with my woodworking projects. Like for example right now im working on a massive outdoors lean on bench and table for outdoor home festivities and a brick padio.

I lived in Alaska 16 years but was born and raised in Redondo Beach California .I’m a nature 👧 just love watching how you live off grid . It’s good to watch I wouldn’t mind off grid living but I need the skills so watching you is very appealing . Thank you for sharing your skills . Blessings to you and your family

Hello Shawn - That was an incredible amount of work, especially considering you logged all the timber, milled the lumber, dug the basement, preserved the wood and put it together. @@MySelfReliance definately shows how you have adjusted what you need in your life and your wife's life ... and it shows in the new cabin design ... even seems to have expansion and upgrade already planned in the basic construction lots of load carrying for 2 floors easy ... large basement able to be expanded when needed ... plenty of space to add on out buildings like a summer kitchen and breezeway .... even an animal shed when/if you get goats or sheep or pigs or or chickens or some such (goats and chickens being the best option early for milk and eggs; cheese and feathers and pest control)
