This is something I've wanted to do for years, and I finally have the track needed! Lego 9v track is very expensive these days but I have found some good deals here and there (see my haul videos). If you know of any official (or unofficial) track layouts not featured in this video be sure to let me know! (my discord channel is linked below)

Wow, that's the first time I've ever seen those layouts assembled. They look bigger in the catalog haha.

Some seem bigger in the catalog but when I was measuring the room for the ultimate layout I was just glad it fit 😅

That may be the first time that some of those layout designs have been used in very long time. I wonder as well how many people actually did purchased the kits.
@BatteryPoweredBricks

I can imagine people purchasing the kits for the discount, but I really can't imagine many people building the example layouts 😀. They are pretty good!

Lovely! I'm from the 4.5v blue era, and we had our own 'Legoland' in the attic with trains marking the edges of the town, we had about 4m x 3m available (yes our parents were generous). Everything battery powered but I could run three trains concurrently while running around setting switches - good times!

I had a couple model trains as a kid, but I would have loved a setup like that. That's awesome!

Great job! So much fun. I am getting out my track and seeing which one i can build. The 9v trains was the fisrt thing I looked at when i got my new catalogue in the mail. Keep up the good work. A track cleaner car is next.
@BatteryPoweredBricks

Awesome! A track cleaner car would be cool. The challenge is, it's not the top of the tracks that need cleaned, it's the inside edge

Just dug out my trains this evening. I was one of those that bought the ultimate track plan. Paid 191usd in July 2006. I think this is maybe only the fifth time I’m setting the train up for a few days.
@BatteryPoweredBricks
@BatteryPoweredBricks 3 місяці тому
When you bought the kit did you build the track ultimate track plan or did you just get it for the discount on all of the track and build your own? Also do you remember if it came with any literature or anything? Or was it just the boxes of track?
@JeffGolenia
@JeffGolenia 3 місяці тому
@@BatteryPoweredBricks as a recall, I built the ultimate track plan once. Most of its life it has been packed away other than a few years under the Christmas tree. If I remember correctly, it was just the boxes of track. Each box had a two sided sheet, one side with the different track plans, and the other the instructions in different languages and the basics of what will and won’t work electrically as far as the turnouts go. Funny thing I don’t have the crossover track but I can pretty clearly remembering my 2006 self telling me I’ll buy it later lol. Now I’m kicking myself I didn’t buy it then.

That looks like a lot of fun switching tracks and picking up carriages etc. I love the black and yellow train, that one and the older grey with the red white and blue stripes along the side were personal favs.

Those layouts are pretty cool, I remember building them several years back with PF track and running 7898, 7398, and 3677 on them! The last one used all of my points. It was super cool to see your custom electric points in action, they operate very smoothly. It's interesting that although they got rid of the remote accessories with the 9V era, the 9V points also functioned kind of like signals in that they could isolate sections of track. Maybe in the future you could make signals wired to the point remotes so that there's an indicator for which sidings are live.

You must be thinking of the 12v system! I'm hoping to at least get one 12v set eventually but it is very expensive to import to the US (it was never released here)

These videos are really entertaining! I’ve never actually seen these layouts in action before, so that was a very nice treat. I recently ordered all the 9V equipment(regulator, cables, etc) from Bricklink so now I’ll finally have a (mostly, I still have a few Powered Up trains) battery-free experience. Keep up the great work!

Brilliant video! I really like using the momentary switches to only provide power to the switch motor for a tiny bit so they don't stall but there is no slipping element/clutch involved. Have you thought about putting tiles or flags with numbers on them and add them to the switches so you immediately know which lever operates which switch?
@BatteryPoweredBricks
@BatteryPoweredBricks 9 місяців тому
Thanks! This is fast becoming my favorite method for controlling switch tracks and could be expanded to control other things on a layout. I like the idea of flags, I did want to find a solution to better visualize what each switch controls. This would be a good solution since my layouts change just about every time

There are tons of options out there, the sky is the limit! I've covered many things on this channel but I still have tons of stuff I haven't covered yet. I'm hoping to get around to trying out the Brickrail project and going further with the Brick Automation Project software for automating Powered Up trains at some point

I've been trying to work out a layout to run 3 trains on it not unlike that "Ultimate" one you showed off! Given my track is RC though, I'd still like to have a remote setup for the switches. I do have one 9V control, would be interested to see how you've configured it so that I can at least run it for the switches alone!
@BatteryPoweredBricks
@BatteryPoweredBricks 9 місяців тому
I should be doing a video on wired switch track control soon, I just finished up the hardest part of the video. The PF system also works just fine as a quick solution

9v is good. but battery better if u buy rechargable batteries with high mah numbers. Yes you need to change but still way better than wat you have with 9v. Becuz 9v has limitation how u can build the track. But 9v a bit better to save more space when u build the train.

Hi can you try to build an Rc drift car with Lego ?
@BatteryPoweredBricks
@BatteryPoweredBricks 8 місяців тому
The closest I go to that would be the Buwizz mod of the Top Gear Rally Car. The problem I had was I couldn't find a good control solution so I haven't messed with RC stuff much since then. There are plenty of builders out there with more experience and knowledge with RC / drift cars

Scoopered by switch isolation :) Lego's switch isolation was both good ... and bad. Once you automate the track, it is sort of bad.
@BatteryPoweredBricks
@BatteryPoweredBricks 9 місяців тому
I could see it being an issue. Once I play around with automation I'll probably be using Powered Up anyway or light sensors to detect train position. I'll get there one day!
@BrickTsar

The extra pieces always bugged me with the layouts
@BatteryPoweredBricks
@BatteryPoweredBricks 8 місяців тому
It was bizarre in both cases. An entire extra box of curves for the first one and an extra straight that could just be used in the siding in another 🤷‍♂️. I wonder how many people bought the 4511 set and a track kit and were mad they couldn't build it! C'mon Lego two straight tracks aren't going to hurt the bottom line that much! 😅
