Here in Canada while prositution is illegal, you'll never catch the police arresting or harassing prositutes. Police here have never made an arrest since the 1900's linked to prositution. Whenever I'm in the downtown area, I always see police asking if the prostitutes are okay and offering them water and stuff which I think is so nice of them. The RCMP chief said himself that the officers will never arrest anybody for doing prositution because he don't want them to be scared of police incase they are in-danger and need help.

While taking a college class at UAlbany focused on victims of crime, we had a guest speaker come to class. Her sister was a prostitute in Albany in late 80's- early 90's. She was murdered (serial killer). But the sister said cops didn't have any motivation or real concern for "public safety" cuz it was prostitutes being murdered. The truly wild thing was that She said the cops referred to her sister as "NHI".. Which is a common acronym for victims who are seen as less than worthy of justice.. "No Human Involved..." This was very insightful. I think the first step is to talk about this stuff and get it out in the open or just having conversations to understand. You don’t have to agree with a single thing they say but you connect on another level as a person with your fellow man. That girl is absolutely right-we don’t know what people are going through or what their situation is. A good reminder to give everyone some benefit of the doubt.

The difference between legalizing weed with dispensaries and having brothels is that prostitution is the buying and selling of people. They may have good intentions like supporting their kids, but there’s nothing empowering about it. This is a whole community overcome by deception and operating in darkness. In the Netherlands we don't have this bizarre drug problem. But prostitutes rent their own room with glass, they don't have pimps, pay taxes, get healthcare and police keeps these area's safe. It's fully legal and women are not on the streets. It's sad to see so many women get murdered. Prostitution will always exist, accept that and make it safe for them WITHOUT pimps. The red zone in Amsterdam is a beautiful old part in centre Amsterdam and you will also find there normal bars and clubs. It's perfectly safe to walk there. This is been like this for many years and we don't look down to prostitutes.

I`m from Germany and prosittution is absolutely legal here in Germany. I live in a small town of ~70,000 people and we have at least 6 brothels in town (that I am aware of}. And that`s no problem at all, there is nobody on the street, there are no pimps, the girls get health checked often, they pay taxes and are officially registered as sex workers. For what I know part of them are renting rooms and doing their own business, staying for a few weeks then going back home or to another part of the country for some time. There are others in clubs that live here in town and stay here all the time. They don`t pay a room, they stay with a sauna club or something like that, don`t know how they split their money with the owner of the club (mostly also females). There is no aura of crime surrounding this business here at all, very small danger involved for the girls and the customers, if there is one at all. Normally I don`t think so, it`s a controlled environment. Nobody has a problem with it happening. I know that stuff because I work in the local taxi/transportation service, and the girls customers are our customers and we drive the girls often too, mostly sunday when the leave town, going to the train station. Normal dressed, good looking girls, you would never guess what they do for living for most of them. So I think legalisation is the first step to a better life for many of these people.
