ono won also at the tokyo olympics quarter final with this ko-uchi-gake against orujov. this was probably the same fight - kinda strange.

he was at my club a couple of months ago.... completely different level to the black belts eventhough they are champions and championship competitors themselves. what a judoka

Even on the IJF circuit there are levels. There are countries that haven’t even beaten one Japanese judoka. Let alone someone like ONO

Looking at the match at the asian championships. There was a really nice sumi-gaeshi from an changrim that might have been a score with the current rule-set. Defintely the winner of this bout

Great video.But you missed a couple tournaments. He participated in: Dusseldorf Grand Prix 2016 Senbatsu 2016 All Japan 2017 ( Lost in first bout) Senbatsu 2018 (Lost in the semi final to Ebinuma) -> this is why he went to the Asian Games and not the World Championships in 2018 Osaka Grand Slam 2018 For footage of tournaments inside Japan before 2020, I recommend the channel 柔道チャンネル in UKposts.

My previous video also covered some of 2016 (before the Olympics). I kind of thought he had solidified his position as the #1 in Japan so I skipped a lot of domestic stuff. Maybe I’ll include in the last video

that german dude he headbutted with seemed to do really well against Ono. Weird I haven't heard of him before. Even the last throws he pretty much spun out.

An changrim also had a weird sumi gaeshi throw against Ono in the last match which could have been a wazari in my opinion . This was a very close call

I think that was a wazari that Ono scored against An. At least it was very, very close to one. The refs and officials had to find a way to settle the match because those two would have went on for hours and the 'political repurcussions' from the Japanese against the Korean organizers would have been very intense if that fight was allowed to go on for very much longer.

Looking at the slow motion replay from a clearer angle, there clearly was no score for that uchi mata attempt. ukposts.info/have/v-deo/bKKTl5Wxgp-QrY0.htmlsi=9BstYYluzblNfsaI&t=1096 Look at that replay, should have been no score. An's back or shoulder did not touch the mat, and his back angle was nowhere near close to 90 degrees to the mat. Ono himself was visibly unhappy on the podium and said in the post-competition interview that he felt the referee had helped him win that match.

@@64wy4x8s I agree that the score was very dodgy but the officials had to do something. It was clear both judoka were locked in a stalemate, both sides withholding the arm grip for the other. An exceptionally long fight can destroy a professional judoka's career, both physically and mentally. So I am glad they stopped the fight. I am sorry for An, who I always loved to watch fighting but it could not be let continue the way it was going. They had to decide who had come the closest to a score and Ono's Uchimata was close.

Ono, I think early in his career, crushed with his Left v. Right Uchimata. Then his Yoko Tomoe Nage was destroying his opponents. Toward the tail of his career, it looked like he'd developed some kind of ganglia, mass or tumor in his upper back/neck area. Do you know what, if anything resulted from that? I really think Left v. Right Judo is something 99% of Judoka overlook as an injury risk. I believe it is responsible for the majority of knee injuries in Judo, for we Right-Sided fighters Don't know how to do ukemi correctly, when thrown by a Left-Side player. (Not an Ono topic, but I believe something all Judoka should think about...). Cheers.
