Pee bottle is for a tent. In a hammock I just hang it over the side and go without even getting up. Just make sure you get out of the hammock on the opposite side the next morning :D

Works for males, females, not so much. Also in alpine places where there are goats and animals that like the salt in your urine, probably not the best idea to do it right under your hammock.

I have my tarp in a snakeskin, AND my hammock in a snakeskin. This enables me to keep the hammock out of the way during hangout time and maximize the space under my tarp. With a larger snakeskin I can keep my quilts in the hammock as well.

Pack storage: Using small 'biners (or s-biners), I clip the top grab handle of my pack to the CL at one end of the hammock (usually the head end). If it's windy or rainy, I undo the hip belt all the way and clip it up over the ridgeline of the hammock or (on hammocks with UQ hooks or d-rings) attach a clip from there to somewhere on the bottom of the pack (that's the ONLY use I've found for ice axe loops).

A closed cell foam works well to lay on in the hammock if you don't have an underquilt

I have been hiking in with a Gatorade bottle for the past three years. Finish the Gatorade the first night and then use it as a Hammock Urinal. The wide mouth provides for a completely spill proof experience. Simply roll to your side and position the bottle accordingly.

Obviously there are multiple size bottles to choose from but that wide mouth makes all the difference.

Bro... sooo nice hearing someone else addressing this issue.... i cant tell you how many times ive sacrificed a Nalgene in the middle of the night as a pee bottle. When it's cold and you're bundled up getting up to pee can be extremely difficult and stressful

Ok, soooo. About the pee bottle. I work in a hospital and have to use “urinals” often (for patients, not me). Just know that the cap will pop off with very little pressure. If you do use one, set it outside the hammock, and not beside you in the hammock. 👍🏻

Looked up the Beetle Buckles and bookmarked that. The spreader bar was interesting, not so much for two people but for a gear hammock right next to you to keep your gear off the ground. Right now I use an under belly to store my gear.

This was really good guys. I actually learned nothing new, which just makes me realize that I watch too many hammock videos on UKposts. Another cool thing I like to do is use a stick as a toggle and hang my pack through the continuous loop that way. I feel like I saw that from Shug. Good way to keep your pack off the ground and under the tarp.

Great hacks. I actually have a permanent secondary zing-it line running underneath the tarp tied to both D-ring ends of the tarp. - almost kind of like a secondary ridgeline running underneath the tarp, but its main purpose is to hang things like clothes, wet socks, maybe a small lantern, or pretty much anything you want that isn't really heavy. You can even additionally tie a few prusik knots to that underneath ridge line if you want to hang anything with small biners to prevent them from shifting or flying off in windy conditions. Using this method, you don't need to use your tarp door tie-outs to hang things as you demonstrated. You can open and close your doors whenever you want without trying to find a place to hang your gear out of the elements.

Peeing in a bottle sounds good in theory, but I just know I'll screw it up, and end up in a soggy cold mess. A jumper or similar under the knees helps massively 👍

Great list of hacks, I tried using the Pack Hooks to keep my underquilt in place and it kept slipping. I purchased 4 #2 S-Biners and attached them to the Pack Hooks and when I put my UQ on I attach the other end of the s-biner to the d-ring on the UQ. It stays secure all night and it's a quick, easy and light weight solution. Thanks for the video! -dave

One I have is refect it. Helps at night when you are trying to find your hammock. I tie about 4 inches or so on all corners of my tarp, half way down the guy lines and on the hammock. Also, you guys should really do one on trail etiquette.

Could you use a second cheap sleeping bag as an underblanket?Edit: a good tip is to add a folded tarp underneath the hammock and use it as a dry shelf it means nothing needs to touch the ground ✌️

Sub-hack hammock tie outs- you can cut them in half. Tie a loop on the end and attach it to the stake or the tarp tie outs. Save another like whatever 2…or 3…or however many grams.

I'm still trying to figure out how to keep some of the drafts from getting past my underquilt. If it's 40s and warmer I don't notice but the colder nights suck. Also keeping the underquilt in place while I toss and turn. I use the clips on the hammock like you suggested.

Tie the loose tail end of your suspension back to the suspension near the hammock to act as drip lines.

I'm always too scared to leave my trekking poles out like that overnight because I'm worried rodents will chew the cork handles lol. I also like a piece of 1/8" shock cord on my guy line regardless of the tarp material to aid in setup. I run a single strand of shock cord through the D-loop on the tarp pull-outs and tie my guy line (which is also connected to the D-ring in case the shock cord ever fails.) to the ends of the shock cord using a clove hitch. The end result is very functional and clean looking. I wish they allowed photo comments on here haha.

Had the misfortune of being in the hospital a few times and I could never pee laying down in those bottles. I just can’t get a stream going unless I’m upright. I wish I could because the alternative to the bottle was quite unpleasant (use your imagination). I just try to watch my fluid intake at night and empty my bladder before crashing to minimize the need to get up.

I hate when when I get up and my pillow slides under me. Solution: I got Dutch’s argon pillow(much less pressure on the neck than an inflatable pillow), prusiked a length of shock cord to my hammock ridgeline, the other end has a mitten hook that clips on the pillow. Keeps it in place when I move or get out of the hammock

About the " Method to pee "... I use the old inner/bladder of a camelback,.. very light to carry, can be folded up, rolled up, unlike that plastic box you showed in the video, all you do is blank off the tubing with a glued in bung. !.. perfect, .!

Drying socks works better in the foot box of your sleeping bag imo. Your body heat dries them.

I don't like line locs much. When tensioning a tarp, if one side is taut and the other side is getting tightened down, the line locs on the first side might slip loose. Your hitch knot idea would help prevent that. Although, I tend to use a spectra cord with a 6 inch piece of shock cord tensioned out to 10 inches with a couple of marlin spike hitch loops on the spectra line for an auto tensioning guyline. It keeps silnylon taut at night and gives some safety margin to dyneema if something tugs on it.

Guys like this are why I always go backpacking and camping alone.😮 Thankfully, they rarely venture out into true wilderness, so your chances of encountering them is slim. However, just in case, I recommend that you always wear camo that matches the environment, so you can always takes a few steps back, and blend into the background, when you hear them loudly coming down a trail. Bottom Line...Avoid these yahoos, and the campgrounds they inhabit at all costs! You're welcome.😊

Hey guys, since you are on the topic of hammocks, how about a comparison video between the Dutchware Chameleon and the Dream hammock. I am considering buying a hammock and sure could use some practical advice.

Surprised you guys don't use the Dutch hook worms. Makes staking out so easy, better than line locks in my opinion and they don't slip and you can hook and unhook them if you want to keep your tarp not deployed.

The hitch to keep your Linelocs from slipping is not original: apparently, great minds think alike. If you hammockers are shopping for a new tarp and can afford to have one made for you, order Linelocs for all tie outs. It especially makes ridge line setup quicker and allows a quick transition from porch mode to button down mode when the weather turns ugly. The only downside is that you must use the diameter line which works with the device. They can be retrofitted to a D-ring or grommet, as shown in the video, adding minimal weight, too.

I've been Hanging since 2008, and I have been using a whoopie sling since 2009 (thanks Warbonnet) I have seen the simple cinch suspension system and like the ease of it, the beetle buckle system is more complicated (more moving parts). The cinch system from Hammock Gear looks like it is about 1 oz heavier then Dutchwares beetle buckle system. Opinions? I would love to hear from anyone who has used either system.

Snake skins are so unnecessary. Just roll up the tarp and stuff it in the bag if dry. Deploying is also easy. If you want to hang it before the hammock just stake out one side of the tarp and fold the other side back over it. So much simpler.

I think it's easier than a tent, jump out, take a step to the right and pee women! Plus, at 57, it's SO much better for my back to sleep in a hammock

I disagree with getting out of a hammock. Its much easier than a tent because when you slide around and sit up you are in a suppoerted position. In a tent, you have no support. Its the same as getting up from a chair vs getting off the floor

I didn't understand the logic behind why you feel it's worse to step out of a hammock, vs a tent 😂 The reasons given just didn't follow, unless you hammock high in the treetops or somewhere difficult to get out. Both with a typical hammock and tent, you need to unzip, both you step out, both you get your shoes, both you experience the cold while you're out there, and both you then bundle back up in bed. Otherwise this was a great and informative video! Thanks 🙂

If you drink nothing 2 + hours before you go to sleep you will not have to get up and pee. You just simply will not have enough fluid in your body to fill up your bladder. I started do this about 5 years ago and I have never had to get up. I have at times been drinking a beer by the camp fire at night and don't cut myself off and it has cost me getting up ;-(

Just wanna let u guys know that it's not the best idea to collect rain water from your tarp. The stuff they use to waterproof the tarps is not safe to drink... I have done it before but people have warned me against it... other then that, I love all the hacks

Why get up to pee? You're in a hammock, mate! Unzip the bugnet, angle out, and let 'er rip! Just don't pee on the same side you put your ground cloth with your pack on....definitely not speaking from experience.

Getting out a hammock is way easier than getting out a tent to pee or do anything. If its raining x10. Hmmmmm. Sorry Kevin but your older brother needs to correct you " a lot" more! I figure since we live so close haven't backpacked or camped all these years anyway we never will, so I'll be honest. buhahaha ;-). If we did I'd tell you in person anyway. I watch all your vids as well as Bryce and the other Ohio guys and enjoy all your channels/Podcasts, etc. I'm not trying to be a dick, but you randomly throw things out there that you don't even believe. Plus a Gatorade bottle is the key. EDIT at end: All the hacks are great, even the pee one. Although I never do it, I just get out and stand under the tarp if raining.
