It’s eerie to listen the reporter to express the main concern back then „what are these nationalist going to do when the war is over?“ 4 years fast tracked to now and the war has just begun. All those guys from the reportage are either buried in Mariupol or generals of the Ukrainian territorial defense.

I lived in Belgium for 15 years, and I wish Ukraine and Russia followed example of settling Flemish-Valoon and Flemish-Dutch disputes: linguistically, legal residents should vote in referendum for being in Ukraine or RUSSIA, including exclaves and inclaves, etc. I.e., Crimea and other Russian speaking areas should allow their legal residentd to decide on their future. No war. Looks so easy, almost too easy to be true. I admire Belgians - they even allowed their German speaking community to be autonomous, with their language laws and education, etc. Shame on nationalists killing each other. Admittedly, it took decades for Belgians to achieve that. But Russians and Ukrainians should learn from their experience. Or, follow Czech-Slovak velvet divorce - both countries are friends, mutually allowing their kids to study in each other states for free, never requiring visas, mutually having residence and work permits for each others´ residents, etc. Perhaps it is too late, but, Ukrainians and Russians, look at Czechs and Slovaks, how they managed to separate but stay brothers and friends!
