To all those who are struggling: hang in there. I'm in my late 30's. One week ago my 5 year old daughter was officially diagnosed with a heart condition. My mom is sick enough to require 24/7 care, I'm her only family left. So making sure she is OK and can still live at home is my responsibility. Life can be so hard. Every day I have to look for the good things. But from someone letting me over while in heavy traffic, to someone holding the door open for me, to someone giving me a smile. Or my college students (I teach at a local University) saying thank you to me for helping them. It's so hard to focus on the good things and the good people when you are having a bad day, but I know they are out there. So I just keep hanging in there.

Pink has always been one of the few artist I can say from my teens, and still now at 34 her music just hits so close to home. When I was confused, dealing with family issues, to breakups, losing my home, divorce, and my best friend committing suicide. She was there for me. I think more than she will ever know. She has such a variety of songs. That have so many different meanings. Yet she never loses who she is in this crazy world.

Yesterday I was on a school trip. We watched a play in a theater in the capital of my country (Budapest). After it ended, we still had about an hour until the train that took us home arrived and everyone was hungry so we went to a mall. My friend went to look around and I headed to the restaurants alone. As I was sitting at the table, eating the Chinese food I have just ordered, I was feeling very anxious and nervous. I've never liked malls to be honest; they are loud, crowded, soulless, and boring places, especially for an introvert like me. It was kinda scary, but then, out of nowhere, I recognised this song playing in the radio through the noise of people. I just concentrated on P!nk's voice, and that one familiar thing made me feel safe, calm and self-secure. I don't know what could have I done without it and the book Daughter of the Deep by my side. Yep it hurts. Here's one thing to know: people who become disabled have twice the divorce rate and it's not just because the relationship wasn't "good" to begin with. The ugly fact is that people flee those who are chronically ill - people who don't get better. Friends, lovers, family. Consider that when a friend, lover, or family member becomes disabled instead of trying to find a way to blame them to absolve you of the struggle of supporting someone you claim to love. Be one of those people for whom they and say "I've got you and you've got me." We don't become INvalid just because we become invalids. Only in some people's minds is this true. This song makes me very sad because when I became disabled I thought I was with the love of my life - before I became disabled strangers would remark on our connection in public. My partner not wanting to be like all the friends who fled the scene of my illness decided the best way out was to fall in love with an able bodied person. Disability can be an avenue of personal and spiritual and partner growth for those who have the ability to face what life dishes out. It would be good if PINK or another famous person wrote about one of these hard truths. There are many of us living alone in isolation because we are too unwell to get out and meet people after everyone we cared about fled. Besides, if we were well enough to get out there, what we've learned about human nature makes it unlikely that we'd want to become close to others anyway. What if we got sick again and had to go through all of that all over again? I don't understand it. My father was unwell my whole life and my mother didn't flee. We didn't think my father was less than. He was the gentlest, kindest person I've ever known. It would break his heart if he knew how broken my heart has been since his death. I thought my friendships and lover were made of gold and it turns out they were just gold plated.
