Pallet Shelter

День тому

Pallet shelter villages provide the dignity of personal space, in a healing community environment. The Pallet team includes people who have experienced homelessness themselves. So our designs account for exactly what's needed in this moment of transition. Cleanable and reusable, Pallet shelters restore hope, again and again.

I dont know why people are upset that they don't have kitchens and bathrooms attached. This is temporary housing. I have lived in something similar while deployed in the military. We were happy to have our own space instead of staying in a big tent.

Thank you for your service, and you're right. The program leader said that the center is available to help minimize isolation. It's a community. I like that it doesn't have a kitchen. It puts less pressure on the residents to have to focus on meals while doing what's necessary to move into permanent housing.

Well, that’s nice. Some people don’t have a choice or happen to have series of unfortunate circumstances that render them without anything, so these are amazing for those people that don’t have a choice and are scared to death about having to face sleeping outside when it’s 10 degrees, but there was no other option. It’s great see these exist now

We have about three or four stay safe cities in my cities now. They are in a fenced area with showers, toilets and no drugs or alcohol allowed. I do t know how many people have been in these. It’s $150,000.00 a month to keep one of these stay safe cities up and running.

Agree 100% but sadly, just seeing a few comments here, I’d imagine in some communities, there will be people making complaints about these, but it’s like, is it really that much of a problem for you? Or is it just finding something to complain about. People that have never been face to face with sleeping in freezing rain I’d imagine. Yea, these are truly wonderful

@virgilhilts3924
@virgilhilts3924 3 місяці тому
@@tanyac.c.macbean4707 Well considering the fact that countless studies have proven that the vast majority (>90%) of vagrants are where they are due to drug/alcohol abuse... I would you suggest you stop ignoring that particular poor choice. As for the rest, yes the vast majority FAILED to save and plan for their future which includes catastrophic events. Just look around you and ask yourself why are people making babies they cannot afford? Look at the amount of people whining and crying that they cannot save money yet they are driving late model cars, have the latest smart phone, big screen TVs with maxed out pay channels, massive song playlists on their phones, they buy $7.00 coffee and expensive boutique canned/bottled drinks, pay $5.00 to have their $6.00 BigMac delivered, and still manage to spend $500+ on Taylor Swift tickets. Those CHOICES are why they cannot save. I'm a retired Firefighter, even though I was making a good salary I was working extra jobs on my off days to build and save for my future. I rode busses & bikes, and drove cheap piles of junk so I could save to buy my first home, expand my side businesses, and plan for unexpected life events. My wife who was a teacher did the same thing, worked her butt off, planned, and saved. Our first home was a tiny little place that was thrashed out by renters, we slept on cots on the floor while we completely gutted and refurbished the house ourselves over the course of two years. We turned a $50,000 dump into a beautiful home that today is worth ~$300,000 through planning and a ton of hard work. Here's another one for you Sweetheart, since you brought it up... "maybe a car accident that leaves you unable to work" My niece had just graduated HS and was working the summer before she started college when she was hit by a repeat drunk driver. In an instant she became a C5/6 tetraplegic for life, no feeling from about the collar bone down, no hand function, limited arm movement. Because she started planning for her future and making good choices while still in HS, she was able to fight through and overcome. She CHOSE not to be a victim and instead CHOSE to be a victor. She worked her butt off to get herself through law school, passed the BAR, and earned herself a wonderful entry level job. She did all of it without taking a dime of taxpayer money, she EARNED her way through with hard work all from the "confines" of a wheelchair. Recently she bought her first home, a beautiful little place overlooking the city, and she is still in her twenties. So stop with your excuses, boo-hoos, and BS sob-stories. Life is tough... get a helmet 🤣

"Sleeping shelters, with community washrooms, laundry facilities & cook houses is EXACTLY what we need to keep our unhoused citizens safe, out of the elements & give them back their dignity" Well no, it is anything but what "we" need. These places have been proven to be complete waste of taxpayer money and do nothing to solve the problem. My states largest city bought into one project to create 30 such units They are ~10x12 with no plumbing, only a central shower, toilet, laundry building just as you describe So far the project has cost over 25 MILLION has been a complete failure and waste of money The units have been almost entirely empty because there are rules such as no drugs/alcohol, no prostitution, etc Meanwhile right outside the facilities fence, the sidewalks are littered with camps These places have been and continue to be complete failures at every turn One of the ones in my states largest city... The "tiny home village" sits behind the fence while the vagrants would rather sleep on the sidewalk and do drugs i.postimg.cc/TwT4DYsh/Tiny-Home-Camps.png

This is amazing. I would guess that the pallet community would have a community bathrooms and community room and also for group cooking? This would be truly a return to our earlier human communities where the 'home' was usually to just sleep, and all activities related to building the community and the services that community needed, would have been done. More like early hunter and gatherer societies, or our own Native American group communities before we destroyed it.

The unfortunate beast in the room is drug and alcohol abuse due to being homelessness, then you have not in my neighbourhood, then you get the capitalists money grubbing assholes, trust me I know of it, I have been homeless, have been the addict, have been the homeless worker, currently the ex property manager, yup alot of ex's in my life but if I had access to this kind of shelter I would have never turned to the drugs to help me cope with the stressors of being homeless, jobless, no family, and having the ability to be modular and fixable and ability to change up for a mini kitchen is a good idea, and yes many ways to make 8t adaptable for any situation is there it's just a matter of getting all the neighbours on the block, the towns and cities, and the politicians on the same page, and it's not that hard to manufacture or set up a plant to make these structures out of recycled materials which would be a huuuuge bonus and windfall for each and every city, province and state, set it up as a non profit, recycling program with skills training !

I would live in one gratefully. Following Hurricane Katrina, I came to the Mississippi Coast is a disaster relief volunteer. For over a year I lived in a tent and then portable housing. We had no inside toilets we had no inside showers. We would walk across the parking lot to go to either of the two. I lived in Costa Rica and we had nothing as good as anything like this. I was a volunteer down there. I’m grateful that I have an apartment and a job. But if there was no place to live, and this was offered, I would gladly take it plus, I would also make sure I participated in helping the community who gave it to me. You'd think she would mention the price. That seems like a pretty relevant detail don't you think? And why is this considered temporary shelter? Is the housing crisis going to get any better any time soon? The reason most people are homeless is because there is no affordable housing, and not because they need temporary emergency shelter. Why not make it permanent?

@PHanomaly
@PHanomaly 5 місяців тому
They went over this very clearly, but were concise, so this is to fit the immediate need that can't wait WHILE affordable housing is built. I think this is first step: no dying on sidewalks. Step 2: longer-term transitional housing, where most people are on long lists because it's hard to find properties and landlords to sign on for homeless, so step 1 is like the ER housing, and then step3: affordable housing where its meant to be permanent, and for prople who are stable and established to be self sufficient. *Think of hurricane Katrina, you don't expect overnight permanent housing in the face of disaster, so stages and steps.

@hotcrazycatladyme168
@hotcrazycatladyme168 Рік тому
@@cinattra It is kinda pricey because you can buy a trailer for that price and you don't have to assemble it. I've seen trailers for as little as 1k (it was a fixer upper) Plus, 7k is a lot of money to come up with at once. You can get a trailer on payments. Good luck getting a loan for one of these. And a trailer gives you a livingroom, a bathroom and shower, whereas this box doesn't even have a compost toilet or anything. A trailer gives you an entire home to work with, not just a room to sleep in. A trailer also gives you a kitchen and appliances. This box is 7 grand and doesn't give you anything but a place to sleep. It's a great idea for the homeless, don't get me wrong, but it most certainly is pricey. Plus, I also hate that it's temporary. I wish they would give people a chance to buy them so they could have something to actually hold onto. Many people qualify for a pension or a disability pension and could afford to make small payments. How are these houses supposed to fix anything when the housing crisis is getting worse, not better? A temporary solution just delays the inevitable, which means investing in it doesn't solve anything.

It looks like the smallest one..like S64 (64 Sq Ft) runs about $7,000. The price goes up from there. So this company is not looking for direct sales to the homeless, they are a looking to government as their sales target customer. Buying 30 of these in various big or small sizes would maybe average out to maybe $10,000 per building.....times 30 buildings...equals $300,000. So you need a customer that can write THAT check.

I can see this being a good thing if done right. Weekly drug and alcohol testing, requirements to work or pay a nominal fee, work programs can be set up to clean parks, streets and such. American citizenship, people with mental issues being placed in a facility that can handle it. Also change the law to where this is legal because they don’t meet minimum square footage requirement. If homeless can live in one of these then a property owner should be allowed to live in something as small. These should be minimum requirements, I know I’d be lived if I found out my tax money went to house drug addicts or lazy people.

Even though a lot of drugs and mental health play into a lot of homelessness you just simply have landlords they're asking way too much money they need to put a cap on this

I'm working on a project that will be installing Pallet Shelters, but I have no idea what the dimensions are. I think the 64pallet = 8.5x7.5 but what about the 100 pallet?

People do not need these, they need housing that’s affordable. Not a country where inflation is out of control where they can’t afford everything.

I don't understand how they can build these for $550 but a shed can't be had for under $1000 and then you gotta put it together.

That’s a great question. Probably not but I bet they have a bunker in areas prone to tornadoes.

I genuinely understand how these can do good… but I can also envision a world where the government begins to over use these as standard living domiciles.

Ten year life span. What happens after 10 years? They get taken to the landfill and another batch is ordered. Temporary shelters will cost more than permanent houses in the long run.

I envision a several level approach to homelessness. In LA, have dorm style shelters with bunk beds. 50,000 beds around the county. These shelters would be emergency beds. Then have 15,000 of these temporary shelters as the next level for people to 'graduate' out of the emergency shelter. Build public housing projects for people getting out of the temporary shelters. And put people in public housing on the Section 8 list to get into regular housing. Make it easier to build homes by getting rid of building height restrictions, single family zoning, minumum parking requirements, etc so that more market rate housing gets built. It needs to be thought out as a chain and done as a whole package of measures.

Permanent housing???!!! Hahaha!!! Who wants to house homeless people in their area??? Will never happen. Thats why these temporary shelters are feasible cause u can move it to another location when residents complain. I say move them to desert encampments.
