As a United-fan with an autistic son aswell, this hit hard. I had no idea Scholesy had a son with autism. It can be extremely difficult at times, especially at a young age. So was so nice to watch this now and hear someone that admire first off but also just someone else’s views and speak so openly about it can be such a struggle but so rewarding and they’re so much more appreciative of the smaller things when you’re having good times. it's called life... nothing is always full of 'ups'. Scholes is just talking how most of us get on with it... no need to pay stupid money to see a therapist when you literally have tv/family/friends/movies/food/drinks/exerice/books, honestly people just need to shut the fuck up and bear with it as long as it's not controlling your life; Scholes curtails those emotions through life/experience and he's happy enough to showcase there are downs. At the end of the day... vanilla ice cream and decent movie? A bit of playstation and couple of beers? Reading a good Grisham or a fantasy novel with a cup of tea? Sending a What'sApp message to a mate of family member? This is normal... this new generation are massive snowflakes.

I think Paul has always felt comfortable among the people of Oldham, he's one of us. He could have so easily moved out to the rich environment of Cheshire but I think he craved normality (assuming the people of Oldham are normal) 🙃 and he has to be commended for that. Thanks Scholsey for opening up. You not only seen a really nice bloke, but considering the extra difficulties with family life and trying to be world class, is a real testament to the quality you always brought to the game. Xavi said you were the best and it's hard to argue

Even as a Leeds Utd fan this is the best overlap yet for me👏👏, brilliant, loved Paul opening up about autism as I too have an autistic son, but the overall interview was a great insight into a cracking player and a real down to earth and honest bloke.

As a father to an autistic son who is a similar age to his son, I can truly appreciate how much it has affected his life, and his ability to leave his family even for a short time. in the 16 years since my boy was born, I've stayed away just one night, and that was 3 months ago! This was definitely my favourite overlap interview to date.

Grew up watching Scholes from the 90's. onward. What a player..... I. am not sure there has been an English player with better technique, vision and game intelligence. .....an utter legend as a. player and even more so as a person. Its so refreshing to see a genuinely humble footballer. You can take what you do seriously without taking yourself too seriously. And. most importantly a proper dad - not one of these who call themselves a dad and do nice fun bits and pieces but. someone who actually puts their. child first - as. a. father. with a. son who has autism I could entirely relate to what he. was saying about it being entirely life changing. for a family. What are you going to do - handle your responsibility like this man - Scholes is a legend.

Paul is a top guy and a brilliant father who knows his priorities and just a normal guy who had a world class talent but didn’t let that lead his life and has zero regrets . It was reported Spanish and Italian clubs were in for him at one point I’m sure later in his career I remember wondering why he knocked them back but understandable now you hear a bit of his story . A class act from start to finish . Respect to the guy . He’s putting his family ahead of his own happiness fromWhat I see

Followed United before Munich, was so sad when Duncan Edwards died, potentially England’s next centre half. I loved Scholes, such a good player. He scored some fantastic goals, often from well outside penalty box. His pairing with Nicky Butt, the enforcer in my mind, gave United such a strong mid field. A great guy all round!

This interview (and the other one with Paul) has been really excellent. I went to college with Andy Scholes (who was either Paul's brother or cousin, I'm not sure which). Paul would have been around 10 at the time and Andy often spoke about him as a future Manchester United and England player! In terms of the interview, Paul came across as brutally honest and it was nice to see this side of him. Best wishes for Aiden in the future, hope he finds a life beyond school that he finds comfortable and enjoyable.

Scholes talking about his youngest son makes me realize doesn’t matter what money, background or anything else you have, our kids are the only thing, loved him as a footballer, had him on pedestool as a god, which football talent always will, but love and respect him more as a dad and family man just doing the best he can, which I think we all are
