📜 The Story:
These penguins were facing death in a pit. No sunlight, no food-they tried many times to climb out but failed. and the photographers could only watch with tears, ‘cause the rules don’t allow them to interfere with wildlife, no matter how harsh it may seem. But a shocking thing happened when a penguin managed to climb up using its beak. The photographers thought the others would follow suit so they left. But two days later, they were shocked to see the penguins still in the same place; even their babies had frozen. It was a battle between the rules and humanity, and they decided to break the rules for the first time and started digging a passage in the ice. Not sure if they could use it but it was the only way to help. A penguin started using the passage, and when it reached the surface, they all rushed towards it and within moments, they saw the sunlight again.

Some rules should not exist in the first place. Who made up the black and white rule anyway and what made them so special that everyone else was forced to follow it no matter what?? Some rules are actually sick and detrimental to others. I remember a photographer who took a picture of a starving child in Africa surrounded by vultures. The picture later won an award but he took his own life bc of the pain, regret and disgust he felt for not intervening to help the child with food and water and shewing the vultures away. In all honesty it's a sick rule. Take your pictures if you must but then do something and help

@@shoto3612kinda it does😊 i used to be a non vegetarian and whenever i heard ppl say you can still be an animal lover even after eating 'some' animals, i felt so much happiness. But with time i realised it was just a way out...an excuse to justify my greed so now I'm happily a vegetarian for almost 3 years 😊

Nope! A willing human that will decide or make choices deliberately is what will always win. That just happened to be humanity sometimes, but wickedness hasn’t left the chat. I don’t know what you mean by love, but I’d love means they don’t die then the people who made the rules also knew what it means not interfere(they could or will die). That’s humanity too. @@gamecat3694 my point is simply that when it comes to predation, you shouldn't interfere. But in the case of these penguins, it's just unlucky circumstances due to geography/ weather. It's sensible to help them as there's no negative consequence in doing so.

That happens a lot they have to stay with their parents all the time even for only 5 minutes alone they can freeze to death. When baby penguins get seperated from their parents and they cant find them they look for other seperated baby penguins and they all hug each other to keep themself warm its beautiful but even then they wont last long without their parents 🥲 Adult penguins also do this its a massive group hug just to stay warm and they even take shifts where the outer penguins are allowed inside and the inside penguins take the outside ❤

Excellent point. I’m not inclined to litter, but I find it a bit odd that there are huge fines for littering in national parks - even though they’ve already built roads, hotels, campgrounds, gondolas & other tourist traps, etc.

Humans kill animals all the time, yet there are rules for photographers not to help animals in dire situations? These rules are just a moral high ground for nobody. Truth is, you should help animals in need just like they are stranded on the beach shore. Sure it can be dangerous, but most likely saved a life. Saving a life is important even if it isn't human. Humans tend to forget they are part of nature and are nature itself.

@@crptniteit's a rule not a law. Like an agreed upon unofficial law. This rule exists to protect animals. To protect the ecosystem by letting nature run its course. Human interferences have far reaching effects. It doesn't stop with just a few animals saved.

There is a reason for those Rules in place. And that is to not interfere with the Natural Law and Natural Food Chain, as much as possible. Like if there were no such Rules, then Predators like Lion, Tiger, Foxes, Wolves, etc would got hunger and die. Because some people would form groups (like those Animal Rights ones), and always stop those Predators from hunting their Prey (in the name of saving the weak). And since many of those Predators are pure Carnivore, they would suffer from lack of hunting (this I say is based on real life incidents in which some people have in the past stopped Predators from hunting a Deer or Rabbit, etc).

I believe the rule about not interfering with wildlife can be bent on two occasions: 1. If the animal is endangered or otherwise already struggling to survive in the wild (especially if it's due to human encroachment or meddling), assistance can be given to try and help the species survive. 2. Normally the rule about non-interference is because an animal's death means life for another. Predators and scavengers need to eat too, after all. In this case though, I believe no other native fauna comes this far inside Antarctica (it's precisely why Emperor penguins choose to rear their chicks in such an inhospitable location, because of the complete absence of predators), so letting the penguins die here would not benefit anyone or anything. As such, no real harm is caused by the photographers interfering and digging an escape path for the penguins.

We should not be preserving endangered species. More than 99% of all species that have existed are now extinct. This means their genetic traits were not strong enough to survive and reproduce in their environment. If the reason for their low population is due to human impact, then we should pull back on the action that is interfering with their species if it is reasonably possible, rather than guarding and protecting the few that are left. Natural selection is an important life process, and we shouldn't be stepping in to help lower the bar for struggling species.@@Zaxares

Genetic diversity and diversity of species is key to maintaining a stable and balanced global ecosystem, not to mention that within those species might be adaptations or genes that could prove useful or beneficial to us down the line. (For example, think about the discovery of Penicillin, or more recently, scientists studying how the wing structure of certain flies are naturally antibiotic not due to any chemical substance they secrete, but due simply to the way their wings are built. Bacteria can't grow on their wing surfaces due to a unique way the wings are shaped.) Plus, just because their genetic fitness is not optimal now, doesn't mean it will always be that way. A classic example is how humans with sickle cell anemia are naturally resistant or even immune to malaria. As humans continue to develop and eventually begin to travel to and colonize other planets, having as wide a database of genetic knowledge and adaptations to draw upon will help us be prepared for any new challenges we may encounter. Who knows how many of those now-extinct species could have held the key to solving modern problems, or future problems, in their DNA and bodies?

That's not how evolution works. If the planet heats up, the polar caps melt, and the Earth's temperature comes up 10 degrees, you don't just preserve all the arctic biome species on the idea that the Earth will get cold again in 5,000 years. What happens instead is that is that the species slowly adapt to the changing environment and natural selection means that certain genetic variants do better under the changing conditions, for example a variance with less fur and less body fat retention. In some cases a catastrophic event might take place, such as the fate of the dinosaurs. We believe most of them died due to starvation as a result of an asteroid's impact effecting the atmosphere and vegetation. In this case, small mammals survived due to their lesser dietary needs. Preserving species based on what-if environmental scenarios is absurd. Life has thrived based on evolutionary responses in real time, not from future foresight. Genetic diversity is important, but evolution is already VERY good at giving us that. @@Zaxares
