6 minutes at 325. in the oven and it cooks it fully in the small pan. I have one like it and it works great for sandwiches and such. No flipping necessary.

I agree. I fiddled around with cooking an egg on the stovetop with this skillet with unsatisfactory results, then recently discovered I can simply plop it into my toaster oven, 350 degrees for 10 minutes and it's the perfect sandwich egg!

If you have three of those, and you have an induction stove top, you can cook three things at once on the largest induction thingy. So, if you were doing sausage and egg muffins, you can do three at a time. You don't need to flip btw... you can just put it under the grill. A good quality seasoned beef sausage, taken out of its casing and pressed down into that pan would make a nice sausage patty.

I have a 4 inch nonstick skillet that had been around at least 10 years in a child's cook set and thought I would give it a try and I love it for cooking eggs and whatever will fit in it! Have baked a biscuit on stovetop, air fryer, oven. Covering egg with a saucer eliminates any other step! Lids for these are outrageous in price! Happy cooking!!

I have one extremely similar, it had a fancy smelling candle that looked like some kind of cobbler. Melted all the was out of it, seasoned it ... Very pleased with it, I don't get how people just throw out a perfectly good skillet because some wax was in it preseasoning.

The average Chinese ironware at dollar stores is giving brands like Lodge and Le Creuset a run for their money. Of course, it’s nice to support an American brand like Lodge that keeps its prices reasonable. The French stuff is being copied like crazy now.
@BornIn1500
@BornIn1500 4 місяці тому
@@j_freed All the modern Chinese cast iron I see and feel has a super rough sandpaper-like texture that disintigrates a paper towel when I wipe the pan down with oil. Lodge is more like an orange peel texture. There seems to be a big difference in quality between American and Chinese still.

Just saw this on Lodge, promoting as individual cooking and serving dishes. Mini skillet for cornbread or eggs, mini Cauldron/Kettle for soup or individual mac n cheese, even cast iron bowls and serving plates, all oven safe and, SURPRISE, apparently rust proof due to some special heat treatment, which is smart if your gonna serve meals on it. (Don't know if the 3.5" is included in that). Even have mini trivets to serve it on to protect tabletop. Odd choice of tableware but I guess it's a nice idea if you're into theme dinner parties, like country cooking night or southern food night.

I've viewed this video a few times and this time read all 404 comments. Some interesting egg cooking options were shared, some for these miniature Lodge skillets. I just got 3 of them, primarily for baking. But I think I will try some of the suggestions for making eggs. I normally don't bother with making one egg so having multiple mini skillets should be fun. I make homemade bread so I could make sandwiches of any size or shape. Refrigerator dough from the store would also work for people that don't make their own. I have the 6.5" and 5" square skillets because it's fun to try different things with cast iron skillets of different sizes. Are you still using the mini skillet for sandwiches or just keeping as wall decor?

I LOVE mine! To make it non-stick, the first thing I did was SAND IT SMOOTH inside, and re-season it. Now I just fry a sausage patty in a 10" pan, while melting a pat of butter in this small pan. I dump out the excess butter, then add the egg, barely breaking the yolk. When the sausage is almost done, I drop the muffin into the toaster and turn the egg out into the pan frying the sausage. The result: a perfect egg McMuffin in under 12 minutes without having to wait in line!

the secret to frying an egg in one of these tiny skiilets is a cover. what i do is heat the pan up to cooking temp, add a thin slice of cold butter and immediately crack in the egg and cover with aluminum foil. leave it alone for 3 minutes, uncover, flip and continue cooking for about half a minute. the moisture in the butter+the cover steams the top of the egg and also helps prevent the egg from sticking to the pan. if you wanted to use a different fat, i would add some water to the pan after cracking in the egg and cover it as quickly as possible. make sure the pan is hot

Many comments about them being used as an ashtray...of course you can but the one I have actually have longer pour spouts to hold a cigarette and is obviously a novelty item. The bottom has a stuck on floral design. My no name #5 with a ring can cook two eggs beautifully over easy with a lid...a third egg can snuggle in there just nicely. If I had one of these I would use it on a griddle or inside a larger skillet...I like the hair on my knuckles! Four of these would be nice. I could get real creative with something like this.

I've got 2 of the tiny pans. One of them is an "ashtray" or spoon rest design. (I'm NOT letting the "ashtray" version in my kitchen) but the spoon rest version is allowed (even though they are the same design.) The other is a "tiny skillet" design. I haven't used either one for any more than a spoon rest. (And, they both are "pebbly" as heck.) (New Lodge finish.) steve

haha yeah this one is really "pebbly", I have used it a few times but mostly it hangs on the wall. Cheers!

Hi Steve. Same. I have 2. None used as ashtrays here either. I have a tiny 3.5" Griswold skillet that I've thoroughly cleaned and seasoned and simply use to hold a small piece of chain mail I sometimes use for lightly cleaning my other ci pieces, and another tiny skillet I just acquired on ebay. It has 'Bay Springs Bank Heidelberg' thickly cast onto the inside cooking surface, but it looks like if I use a generous bit of butter an egg will just flip out easily for a nice single egg to put on an English muffin. I like the mini skillets. They're kind of a novelty but usable.

Eggs-actly! Homemade is always better than buying outside, not as convenient, but better! Use it well, now I'm gonna get me one!

The amount of butter you put in there looked like it would have been half a stick if it were scaled up. hahaha. My son got me one of these for my birthday and I love it.

When I cook an egg in my 6' cast iron skillet I coat it with a thin coat of oil then heat it on medium low until hot. Then drop in the egg and immediately cover it with a small glass lid and turn off the heat. the residual heat from the skillet and the trapped heat will cook the whites thoroughly to sunny side up with a runny yoke. Don't want a runny yoke, keep it covered longer.

That is a good method. I have used an ice cube under the lid when I have done it that way before
