@JarrodsTech I have an idea for you: When I shop for a laptop - especially when it will be used as a desktop replacement - I often compare the price/performance I can get from any laptop with the performance difference from a desktop of around the same price. So..... why not include benchmarks from a reference desktop PC as a comparative in your laptop reviews? I think it might make the comparison more realistic to compare laptops against the price of a complete desktop setup including monitor, mouse and keyboard of around the same price. At least pick a single desktop alternative for a reference point in laptop reviews. It makes sense because when buying a laptop many people want to compare the price/performance tradeoff they would get if they bought a desktop instead. Especially in the high-end laptop bracket where performance is important enough to compare with a complete desktop PC setup and not just other laptops.

The wattage can go higher if you enable the “cpu overclocking” mode in Synapse. I undervolted mine and increased the power limit, and saw significant improvements in games like Rocket League.

By the way you can increase CPU power by enabling “CPU overclocking” Synapse. This increases the CPU+GPU combined wattage, obviously with a bit more heat but should greatly help in more CPU-bound games/1080p

what a weird named function. It should be never named "CPU OC" while it affects combined wattage. BTW, what's increased wattage? Every watt means a lot in case of config like this

@@MrRobaloAmigo yeah they should’ve called it “cpu tuning” or something. I remember getting about double the cpu wattage in certain cases, like in the Shadow of the Tomb Raider benchmark at one point I was pulling like 150-160W GPU + 100-110W CPU with max fans. Which is crazy to see. You can even see the CPU hitting like 80-90W at some points in Apex Legends in the review I just put out on my channel. And then in CPU-only loads it can hit like 170-180W.

@@JarrodsTechIf you're actually serious in wanting to measure that, I guess you could create a box with lights where you place each laptop facing a hole for the camera, which is surrounded by a light ring or something. That way you could crop the image of the screen and measure average pixel color or something. You'd have to come up with something to display in the blackground (probably something dark, maybe just a black screen), and figure out a way to normalize based on OLED vs LCD.

@@JarrodsTech My objective method: I turned off both laptops and put my face directly in front of the screen under the same conditions! Afterwards, I thought about using the Blade 16 as a mirror in my bathroom to justify the high price: D I also did a real-world test with max brightness and in different conditions, but I immediately found out that there's an anti-glare layer on the G16 :P I'm now deciding between the G16 and X16, perhaps Legion. Blade is just too reflective.

You should test peak window brightness (2%, 10%, 25% etc) on miniled & oled monitors in laptops going forward. Which matters most w/ higher end HDR displays.

Well, another great, detailed, in-depth review. /kudos And, this being the latest in a series of DOZENS of reviews I've watched for the latest gaming laptops, it has definitely cemented one thing for me: I am *absolutely* going to keep looking for a lappy rocking only either a 7945HX or 7945HX3D; those Intel CPUs can take a seat. :D Thanks again for your great work!

I was really hoping I could main this laptop. Was prepared to dish out for the 96gb RAM and 8tb of storage. But the CPU throttling hampered my premiere pro use and it got so hot on my lap I had to keep it on a desk or a lap desk. Sticking with the gigantic Titan.

Hi Jarrod I have an issue with this exact model that when I switch the display from Nvidia Control Panel from "Auto Select" to "GPU Only" or when it switches automatically via advanced optimus when launching games, the screen gets dim a little bit even at the maximum brightness level same as it was on integrated graphics. Are you facing any such issue or have you noticed it? (Let me repeat: Even At Maximum Brightness Level, the screen brightness gets a bit lower when switched to GPU Display via Advanced Optimus) HDR is OFF

The price of that thing! Sure looks pretty though. I'm looking more and more and OLED's for my next laptop for those colours, namely an ASUS Vivobook. But I'm still undecided. Trying to find something that's decent at gaming and has good colour for editing photo's is hard work! Especially when you don't one anything covered in bloody RGB!

im a laptop lover but at a 4k+ range idk what razer is doing, i remember even titan being 3.6k maxed everything, doesnt matter how good cnc feels its on mac pro range and at that money everything else is better a good desktop + a g14/16 is a viable option lol, Nice review as always and come on jarrod im ready, throw at me even if it hurts how good/bad is the g16 from this year, i've already heard lots of things from other resellers also from reviews i just want to see your review because ppl actually is hiding the inner temps in most reviews and even some other shops and resellers dont want to share info regards some things. I pull the trigger on this laptop and is a beast. I make this decision based on that beautiful oled display. Gotta say that temps are burning high. Gotta get a llano laptop cooler and play with externals keyboard and mouse. Also a disappointment that had to buy a lan adapter, Im not a fan playing on wifi. The sound is awful, had to disable the thx software. Nothing compared to the macbook pro sound. But for reduced spaces and better power consumption than a desktop, its a great choice. US veterans and first responders got a 5% discount.

THANK YOU!!! I've been using the rog flow x16 with a mini led display and I'm so DONE WITH IT. The blooming is terrible and the colors look like they've gone through a piss filter without making an icc profile which doesn't work in half the games.

Relax. We're talking about power here. The laptop shares power between the cpu and the gpu. First he made mention of the razer blade having it's cpu limited at 60W in some games. So when he says 160-175W he's referring to the gpu power. The rtx 4090 laptop can go up to 175W. That's why he says 160-175 W because depending on the scenario, it can go up 175w max out.

I got last years Blade 16. I love it! But honestly: If you look for best price performance, I can't really recommend this notebook. If you look for the most professional looking gaming notebook though then yes. Go for thr Razer Blade 16.

Depends. If you want best price to performance then x16's better but if (like me) you prefer better build quality, better and faster display, a more portable laptop and an overall nicer experience then that extra 700 Euros may be worth it for the blade.

@@barcafan94 Picking the blade any day over the legion as I prefer a laptop with smaller footprint and not one with a huge ass coming out the back 🤣. Plus the blade has a better screen and just looks and feels nicer. Maybe for you performance is everything but not everyone's the same.

The game results looks very poor, but why didn't you enable CPU overclocking in Synapse? This settings must be enabled for all gamers who want get maximum performance from the Blade 16 🙄 Is it correct to compare Blade 16 without CPU OC with Legion 7 without CPU w-limit? I don't think so 🙃

So if you still want an OLED screen and respectable specs and good price. You can still pickup the Gigabyte Aero 16 BSF from last year. Don't know why Jarrod didn't do a video on it. Only qualms are the BIOS and having one USB A port which is fixed with a dongle.

You can enable cpu overclocking in the software and cpu wattage goes way up

Agree with the other commenter. I have undervolted the CPU and increased the available power (no overclock yet). I can run Rocket League at 2560x1600 maxed out settings capped at 360fps with 1% lows at ~350 fps and 0.1% lows at ~240 fps.

@@xxlk9220No. Undervolting a CPU means you drop the voltage below what is standard from the factory. This in turn reduces the temperature of the CPU and allows it to run faster at the same temps as before. I actually increased the amount of power allowed to go to the CPU inside Synapse. Improving CPU performance helps in games where you’re playing at extremely high refresh rates and/or you are CPU limited.

7945HX3D performs better in games but you have to buy it in an outdated 3 years old ROG Strix chassis with an average display. The top performing 14900HX laptops (Titan 18 HX, ROG Scar 18) are at least matching it and even beating it in some games but they are also more expensive (the Scar 17 X3D is 3500EUR here, the Scar 18 costs 700EUR more and the Titan costs 1300EUR more). If you don't mind the display and the old chassis buy it though

Razer only makes sense if you want a 2+ year model :)))) For example in my case I can get a i7 12800h, 3080Ti, 32DB, 1 TN, QHD model for 1800$...

Yeah but Razer has to many manufacturing defects. I had to send it in for repair 4-6 times to get all the issues sorted. To much of a pain. Rather go for Zepherus labtop

Here this laptop costs 4900EUR for the 4090 model with 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD, for comparison an MSI Titan 18 HX is 100EUR cheaper with 64GB RAM and usually gets 30+ more FPS in most games. If you don't want 18", the Legion 9i with full specs costs 4700EUR, has 64GB RAM, a higher resolution and brighter screen (miniLED vs OLED though) and gets 20-30 more FPS in most games according to benchmarks. Razer also has issues with swelling batteries. You are basically just paying for the Razer logo here.

Here you pay for it's size + OLED. The blade has the smallest size of the mentioned laptops. Legion 9i a bit bigger. But the story about 60w limit sounds stange for me. I didn't get is CPU overclocking was enabled while testing or not....

4090 PC is at least 4500EUR without monitor, so if you add a 400EUR monitor it is the same price as this laptop but the monitor will be a lot worse than the OLED display here. I think the maximum you should pay for a laptop is 2000-2500EUR except for MacBook
