Truly...who would one rather watch in their prime for the variety of shotmaking, including the actual strokes, the fluidity of movement and the strength and endurance without appearing to strain in the least. The most GS titles = G.O.A.T. argument would be more persuasive if Federer had all his qualities but won, say, only 10 GS titles (quite an achievement regardless).

(I say, a "Mt. Rushmore GOAT" not THE G.O.A.T, as the 'expert' players/coaches/sports analysts consensus is that player is Jordan). However, if you're going to conflate most points scored in the NBA with being a GOAT or the GOAT, that man, since his retirement decades ago, was Jabbar until just last year. Very few former or current basketball players would call Jabbar the GOAT after Jordan retired (heck, even before), but you could make an argument and he should be in the discussion for many reasons. Lebron's great achievement, I believe, is performing at such a high level for so many years (he's freakin' 39 and still among or close to the top ten performers, no drop off like Jordan and many other HoFamer's). Then again, he went straight from HS to the NBA. That 3 or 4 extra years of scoring (his game is much more than that, of course) helped him break the all-time scoring record and it still took several more years playing than Jabbar for him to do itl 2) Your comment is confusing. It seems as if you might be agreeing with us in that we say that just because one has the most GS titles (by the way, shouldn't we count doubles titles as well? After all, it's part of the game and shows versatility and comprehensive knowledge and skill) doesn't necessarily make one THE GOAT. That's why Federer is the GOAT...still impressive, but not the best GS titles resume and the most beautiful game in every aspect, including quiet mental strength and demeanor, with few anomalous exceptions, throughout his career.

As for doubles, there seems to be a misunderstanding and it's probably my fault. Yes, the best doubles team GS wise all-time are the Bryan's but I when I suggested that we should count GS doubles titles in determining the men's tennis GOAT, I was talking about those superior singles players with several or more GS single titles AND many GS doubles titles as well (neither Bryan brother has ever won a GS single nor any non-GS but still major title, e.g. BNP Paribas @ Indian Wells) and the best example of this type of player would be McEnroe with what, 7 GS singles titles, at least 8 (9?) GS doubles with P. Fleming et. al. and one GS mixed doubles title ...not to mention Davis Cup championships. Probably the most broad accomplishment of any male tennis player but let's face it, aesthetically....ugh!

Fed"s peak year was 2006 when he won 3 slams and 4 masters. And this was facing such giants of the game such as the unseeded Baghdatis in a slam final. Nadal didn't yet really know how to hit a ball when not on clay in slams. In 2015 djokovic won 3 slams and 6 masters. He recorded the highest level of ATP points ever recorded. And this was facing Federer, Nadal, peak Wawrinka, peak Murray. Peak unmatched indeed...

nah, times changed, now tennis is extremely aggressive and played for long hours. djokovic changed that and now its suffering to win anything. of course it was poetry when it was easier. but wheres rafa or nadal today?, now there are 10-15 players that try to beat djokovic. one attacks plays like madman, then goes to rest for 6 months. and they rotate. while djokovic has to beat every week, defend his title every tournament. novak is still playing and still number 1 and still breaking records.

The two handed approach is much, much more efficient, controllable and consistent. If Federer has Djokovic’s backhand, he would’ve won many more slams. Few tennis coaches now would advise a player to use a single hander

I think it should be a mix of both: who played extremely high level tennis for an extended period of time. This should take into considerations mainly peak years of players, because dominating when level inevitably drops with age, requires some luck (i.e. not having to face champions of your same league, but younger), and they didn't have the same amount of luck from this point of view. Djokovic is having clearly too easy of a time nowadays, against an ATP tour which general top level clearly dropped heavily. His peak years are those which really count. The collection of slams he's doing nowadays against those babies, doesn't change the goat debate the slightest for me, which is different from a mere collection of numbers. In the end, for me it's very difficult to decide a true GOAT between the 3 fabs. Every one of them could've good pros and cons... perhaps Fed and Djoko a little bit more than Nadal, but in the end, I think they would be really too close to each other, so much that it would be a matter of personal preference... so I think they should just share the crown.😅

More than 2 to 1, 13 to 6 in finals to Djokovic and almost 2 to 1, 11 to 6 in slams seems to indicate that he didn't match up too well in the biggest matches that matter the most.

But half of those wins by Novak were when Fed was 36+ in age (that's when Novak won half of his majors) and Novak was in his prime. The stats were pretty much equal between them when they were both in their 20s or Fed in his very early 30s. @@huzcer

Never mind the level of competition in 2006 vs 2015. Federer faced Baghdatis in an actual slam final. Nadal couldn't get past a US Open or AO 1/4 final until 2008. In some of the tourneys time and again they have used slower balls but those troubled novak as much as roger. So to cry over speed of surfaces is ridiculous. Move on. Before 2010, Hard courts were way faster than the ones we see nowadays and some people truly don't have a single idea on how slowing down the courts was a K.O for aggressive players like Fed
