One little titbit on this - Logan leaves Colin (his security guy) a Rolex Daytona Lapis in his unsigned will in S4E1 - it's not mentioned, but fans found it by zooming in on the note that's shown on screen. That's a 3 million dollar watch, so I guess he does have a watch that makes a Patek a bit unimpressive

you sure it was a daytona lapis? i havent seen the show, so i dont know, but thsts a very rare and uncommon watch. White gold+blue dial daytona looks fairly similar from a distance so maybe thats what you saw?

Logan Roy wore an IWC in one episode but consistently wears a Jaeger LeCoultre. Best show on TV and awesome for watches. Bobby Axelrod on Billions is also great for watches and Ray Donovan wears some cool pieces on that show.

The article I read from Boss hunting said Billions used alot of fake watches on the show but on Ray Donovan were actually Liev Schreiber's personal watches. The Seamaster he wore on the show was actually on his wrist in a few film's

I think you guys missed a point, The Roy family are new money. They are new to the lifestyle, this is why we see them thinking money is everything and acting as if they are more important than say the helpers around the house and such. This is drastically contrasted in the Pierce dinner where we see what actual wealth and old money looks like. Where they treat helpers like family and have so much money that non of them work but instead do literally whatever they want, which by how they were raised is to study and learn and not just party and splurge. This to say the if the PP was given to a Pierce they would have been thankful for the thought and not so much the item instead of having the need and insecurity to undermine others

I haven’t watched the show so I’m not sure if the context fits. But, in Asian culture it is very bad to gift a watch particularly to an older person. Watches symbolize the passing of time and in a way symbolize death. It can be interpreted as waiting for a person to pass. In Chinese specifically the word for “clock”, not “watch” specifically, also sounds a lot like a word associated with death. Even though I haven’t seen the show. Another parallel that I love about the watch symbolism, is that at the end of the day it doesn’t matter what watch the character wears, the time passes equally for all of them. It’s just a facade covering up the vulnerability and mortality of all of every character. They can spend as much money as they want on watches, but no matter how much money they have, they still cannot buy more time.

Brilliant. In the U.S., many years ago, it was customary for a man to spend fifty years with one company. The traditional company retirement gift was a gold watch. When I retired, I decided to give myself that gold watch: a Cartier Tank Francaise.

That's weird, I'm also Chinese and I know for marriage it can be customary for parents to gift nice watches to the bride and groom. Longines was a popular choice a few decades ago but if you're better off you'd probably gift Rolex or something. I also just gifted my mom a Cartier and she didn't say anything about that 😅

In Mandarin “gifting a clock” and “making funeral arrangements” sound exactly the same. But it only applies to clocks, not to watches. And no one actually gifts clocks unless deliberately meant as an insult or a joke.

I disagree on Gerri. The reason she wears an AP precious metal is because she is a woman fighting in a man's world. She needs to use all weapons to appear more powerful. Shiv doesn't have to prove anything. She can be feminine if she wants to; she can be anything if she wants to. And that's the point about all the Roys' watches. They are merely 'cufflinks' to complete the outfit.

I don't know if you've noticed it, but even in the promo photo for season four Logan is fiddling with his wristwatch, which is further underlining the importance of this piece of jewellery in the series ;) I've really enjoyed the entire video you guys have made, but there's one gripe I have with it, meaning: you could've provided better shots of some of the watches as it's difficult to identify them by names only, and especially when they're foreign and pronounced differently to their original versions.

I think Greg receiving a gift he had to pay for is the same reason why Logan didn’t except the watch from Tom. That lesson happened to Logan. Greg is becoming Logan and Tom is becoming Jerry. I agree that theses watches have life lessons.

The reason why KENDALL doesn't care about Naomi's watch is that at that moment he is paranoidly invested in finding what his kids got him and I think btw RAVA lied abt; there was no gift from kids, Kendall doesn't really give a shit abt anyones gift at the moment cause what his kids got him was the most valuable thing for him . If there is one thing other than the CEO gig Kendall really cares abt is his kids. and ROMAN doesn't care abt watches cause some people don't care abt watches regardless of money and also he doesn't get off on normal stuff

Buying the mansion for $53 million to this level of wealth isn't a buy but a transfer of assets from cash to real estate. Shiv wears her Cartier, not so much as it's a watch, it's because it's Cartier as in fashion.. She is very conscious on what she wears. Cartier is one of the few brands that can pull it off. Most of the rest I more or less agree with most. Except I still think Jerri wearing that Royal Oak as a woman, is far more brutalist than Tom. Logan as far as watches doesn't care, he's older it's a tool. SImilar to Gates and Jobs. The son's Roman and Kendall do to their generation are more in tune with what to wear and when. As you said, they're toys. Only real push was the RM by Kendall. VC and JLC are just fashion, looks good when I have to be suited up. I'm glad it's ending, last season don't have to donate decades of my life to this show, which I liked. We did talk about this abit on Tim Writes stream.

Many of the watches especially early in the show are fakes, some quite bad fakes. In later seasons though they appear to be real though they may just be good fakes. Logan definitely wears a JLC Rendez-vous in the first episode which is the watch often misidentified as an IWC.

You’re not missing anything. The show has a very simple, circular plot that just repeats. Nothing ever happens in the show aside from a couple deaths-which still don’t even move the plot forward. It’s a soap opera with a sheen of “prestige.”

This episode was when i found about Patek Philippe, and a little latter i start to research about watches and brands history. Love this show btw, i'm in love with Tom Wambsgans Royal Oak.
