An introduction to the subject: "A Tale of Two Countries - Neil Hardwick". The scene you watched is from a Uuno Turhapuro movie. The main character, Uuno Turhapuro, is not in that scene. The two sitting at the table are his buddies. 20 Uuno Turhapuro movies were made between 1973-2004. Here Uuno has moved to Helsinki from the country side, become more urban than anyone in just two weeks and plans to get himself a rich wife: "Kaupungin tavoitelluin poikamies". And here he gets married. The father-in-law has been kept in the dark about Uuno being his son-in-law to come: "Elisabethin ja Uunon häät". The movies have been available as a collection 'Uuno - Täydellinen Kokoelma (10 DVD)', but they only have Finnish and Swedish subtitles. It might be possible to rip the Swedish subtitles and translate them into English. I could find English subtitles online to the movie 'Uuno Epsanjassa', in which they are on a holiday in Spain: "Uuno tanssii - Uuno dansar". Finland had prohibition era between 1919-1932. After the prohibition the production, sale and use of alcohol have been regulated. That bar in the scene is probably the kind, which could sell only mind alcohol, such as beer. There has been an on-going discussion about Finnish alcohol culture contra "civilized European drinking culture" also after the prohibition. Probably because women played a key role in prohibition, also Uuno's wife tries to regulate Uuno's beer consumption. In these scene Elisabeth finds use for Uuno in the morning at the summer cottage, which then lands some money into Uuno's hand, which then suffers from a "currency cramp", which then requires "medical attention": " Jussi Sokuri Uunon unenlahjat hyötykäyttöön" and "Jussi Sokuri Valuuttakramppi". A song referring to that scene: "Poju - Esson baariin". Here Uuno pretends to be a food and a beer inspectors to get them for free, and also annoys his neighbor: "Jussi Sokuri Terveystarkastaja" and "Jussi Sokuri Oluen testaus". On Finland's prohibition era: "Kieltolaki - Prohibition in Finland". This scene precedes that 'Vettähän siinä vain oli" scene: "Uuno Turhapuro - Bottle of Booze (English Subtitles)". Same theme: "Ihmisten Puolue (People's Party) - Alcoholism (With Subtitles)".

Actually Italian and Finnish pronounciation of words is very similar. Italian is typically one of the easiest languages for native Finnish speakers to learn.

The producer and director of these Uuno Turhapuro films Mr. Spede Pasanen, the other guy sitting on table, was a clever guy. He saw comedy on so many things and his humor had usually multi levels on these jokes / scenes. He utilized politics, social grievance, strict (and stupid) regulations and laws as a fuel in his films. If there was a possibility to misunderstood something, he certainly used it in his films. Kind of Mr. Murphys' law. Stereotypical personalities and as far pushed generalizations as possible of personalities were often used topics and jokes in his films. I'm happy to hear you have liked Uuno Turhapuro films and found those funny. Thanks!

As a Finn I think that "non-alcoholic" bar was just sarcasm. He did not mean that really. The waiter was pissed off, because the guys brought their own booze into the bar. When Finns get pissed off, they often start talking sarcastically and behaving rudely instead of raising their voice or openly showing their anger. They try to hide their feelings. If you hear a Finn to raise his voice, he is not just pissed off any more, he is furious. P.S. Your Finnish pronounciation sounds amazingly good.

Also it was and some part still is very strict which alcohol restaurant can serve in Finland. Government gave permits what you can serve. If you had A-license you could serve vine and hard alcohol but then you have to serve good food also. Middle license you could serve level 3 beer and if you didn't have any alcohol license you just could not serve any alcohol.. this was very strict in 1970.

The alcohol laws were really strict in Finland back in the day, they still are. Only after 2018 they allowed stronger alcohols (than 4,7%) to be sold in other than goverment owned shops and only after that beer was allowed in Burger Kings but not McDonald's. In the past Finland had a lot of "bars" like cafes that didn't sell alcohol OR you had to buy a pastry or a bread to get served beer etc. So it was strictly illegal to drink in the public, especially in the restaurant where they didn't serve alcohol. I hope this makes sense in context of the video.

After the prohibition, in 1932, restaurants fell under strict regulation by Oy Alkoholiliike Ab. Finns were served mandatory sandwiches in restaurants, bars were prohibited, and dancing was forbidden. People dressed inappropriately were not allowed into restaurants. Women without male escorts were not admitted to restaurants. Restaurants were considered as schools of etiquette until the 1960s. Gradually, from the 1960s onwards, they gained more freedom. In 1967, women without male escorts were officially accepted as restaurant customers. The new alcohol law and the law on mid-strength beer in 1969 enabled the operation of serving alcohol in restaurants also in rural areas. By the late 1980s, the restaurant industry was essentially freed from regulation, and the number of restaurants increased significantly.

In Italy there is a law that if you bring your own drinks the waiter at the bar/restaurant has to open the bottle for you if asked to do so 😂 Of course nobody would do it, except for a friend of mine that experimented it , the waiter was actually nice and really did open the bottle for him but i wouldn't be surprised if he woulded kicked us out lol
