Floyd's my favorite boxer to watch. The king of adjustment. He's the perfect blend of virtuoso talent with the craziest work ethic (like a Kobe). And I love how after big fights he lowkey goes to McDonald's to treat himself to a hamburger by himself (with a driver, of course) I love all the all-stars and legends of boxing but he's still my favorite to go back and rewatch his fights. My favorite fights to rewatch from the Pretty Boy era since he was younger and more offensively minded - the Gatti fight, the Demarcus Corley beatdown he put on, the Corrales fight (his first masterpiece over a really hyped up opponent, his uncle Roger would agree with me), his win over Baldomir, the Judah fight. The Money era I loved his performance against Marquez, the Canelo fight (his second masterpiece, after the Corrales showcase) and the Maidana I fight. And the Olympics I love how he was the first to take down a legit lighter-weight class Cuban in like a decade in his bout against Lorenzo Aragorn. I also follow Muay Thai and Thailand's only Gold Medalist in western-boxing is Somrak Khamsing, who won the 1996 Gold Medal and is a national hero in Thailand. However, if he had faced the rightful contender who got robbed that year, instead of Serafim Todorov (who got a ROBBERY of a win against Floyd), Somrak, in my book, was not going to get that gold medal if he faced off against Floyd. Funny how things work out. I love my Floyd and have been following him a little later in his career, but I was there since 2006 and studied him all the time. And I was a Floyd nuthugger in the fight against Manny, and he showed he was the boxing clinic/magician (as Tim Bradley put it years ago). But I thought it was a truly boring match, not just because Floyd dominated him in boxing (would've been an awesome sparring session). But as a pugilist/Prize-fight where I wanted to be entertained (that is the point of Pro boxing, it's the damage and blood and the money fueling the desire for back-and-forth vs watching the beauty in the sweet science, which is more found in the core boxing followers who follow the Amateur and Olympic ranks) I wanted a better back-and-forth the likes of his Cotto or even Hatton fight (where he still looked more dominant). I'd be asking for too much if I said I wanted it to be like the Maidana I fight (styles make fights, and also Pac is a southpaw). And I know Floyd is always not as entertaining to watch against Southpaws (sharmba mitchell, Robert Guerero who Floyd gave himself a "D" for his performance, Manny now, with the exception of Zab Judah - that was a good fight). But I wanted Floyd to take more risks if that was gonna be one of his last bouts. I wish it WAS his last bout but I remember he had a 7 fight MEGA contract deal with Showtime and spent it on a shitty fight with Andre Berto. I love Floyd and he always fought great competition. And I'll always have bias in my voice when talking about him, but he didn't always fight the biggest names or threats in spaces of times post-2007, he still opted to get tough fights over good champions, but I always felt he could've taken on more dangerous opposition. I think after he beat Oscar he learned what it took to stay at the top and to fight at higher weight classes. He got older and slowed down his style in my opinion after the Oscar fight, and took more defense and less movement if he could afford it and now fighters are saying how much smarts he used to keep track of the space and time he had left on each round. Spaced out the amount of fights to take on and could choose who he wanted to. Still amazing to watch his stuff after 2007, and like I said, he still picked good competition and he relied on his accuracy and timing way more and didn't expend as much energy doing too much of the offense. But never anyone too risky. I do like Canelo for that - that boy always seems to try and pick tough fights the core fans always complained he should (who the fuck wanted to risk their reputation against Erislandy Lara or any other Cubans who didn't bring a prize money paycheck but could probably beat you on points, or remember when Canelo was chasing Paul Williams, are you kidding me? So dangerous of a gamble to fight, up to that tragic bike accident. Or he went up to finally take on GGG when stories were known that GGG lit him up good in the past sparring sessions and GGG was bigger? Pretty big cojones on Canelo). I enjoy his climb up the big names when everyone was scared of him (when he was chasing Naseem, Mosley, Kosta, and of course Oscar). But I think he played it a bit more safe when after he finally got into being his own manager and fighting Oscar.
