In this video we rescue my gandpas rare 42 model ford that has only 28,000 miles . It has been parked for 16 years and is in really good shape for its age because it has been stored inside . it has a flathead inline 6 , and a 3 speed manual on the column . This car is a real time capsule.

That's a very beautiful car but you were right your first instinct about pulling gas tank and draining it flushing out the line I don't know when you make this video but I'm thinking it's starting with the process of doing but yeah that would be my guess that you should have flushed those lines out and that gas tank that way it would have not messed up the idling

Love those old buggy sprung Ford's, especially the 42, as they made so few of them. By the way, those lever-action shocks are Houdailes. They are not a friction shock but rather a valved, fluid filled shock. They can be adjusted for firmness on the body and by changing the viscosity of the fluid. On the downside, they are expensive to rebuild.
@jeromebreeding3302
@jeromebreeding3302 2 роки тому
@@Sleeperdude It would help a future owner of the car(maybe you?), to know what they're dealing with, for the cars shocks. Friction shocks can be easily fabricated, hydraulic precision engineered lever shocks, like Houdailes can not.

1942 sounds indeed rare, WW2 was a time where you had to have connections and a really good reason to get so much as a new tire. TVA warehouse makes it seem like a former government car. I realize this video has been made for a while. I always enjoy your videos but the best thing is seeing you and your son doing this & adding the rest of the family. I did a project with my son for his 1st car. We had a good relationship but in the end after 15 months we were not just buddies but best friends. To this day when we see each other he always talks about the car. A lot of late nights and weekends. I just wish there were a way to get this message across to parents. It doesn't have to be a car. THE IDEA IS SOME INVOLVED PROJECT WITH YOUR CHILDREN. It is that simple. Even when they were more grown we tried to have one rule - dinner one night a week as a family and dinner on Sunday. This rule had some breaks as you have no control over everything. My kids lived up to this 95 percent of the time generally inviting their friends to eat.

That video is fantastic. I am 69 years old and I own a 1941 Ford which I am currently working on. I was hoping that yours had a flathead V8 in it, but a 6 is good. I have a slightly souped up rebuilt flathead V8 in mine. Love it! Your squeaky clutch sounds just like mine did before I put a new bushing in the clutch arm pivot. What I think is happening is the clutch arm is scraping on the floorboard hole because of a worn bushing and the spring is pulling it sideways. Check it out. I'm anxious to see future episodes on that one. I also think it's cool that your grandpa taught you so much and you still have him around. You are truly blessed.

The flat head engines were very good at the time, but i would consider a more modern engine. Fords 289 v8 was an excellent engine, and the 300 L6 was another excellent engine. Parts are very cheap and still common enuff to get today. Best wishes with your project!

@@blueduck9409 My original intention was to keep the original drive train, but my son bought me the rebuilt flat head. I know the newer drive trains are more reliable, but I love the sound of the flat head and I want to keep it close to original if I can. I'll let the next owner change it out if they want to. Whether it's my son or someone else. I've owned it since 1975, so I've had my fun with it. Maybe my son can keep it for his son?!?

Nice to see that old Ford . The dash screams out pure Americana. I was 14 in 1965 , we had a 53 Ford PU with a little 230 v8 , had a starter button by the door on the dash , during a storm after opening a gate I slammed the door to shut and simultaneously hit the starter button and the door slammed one finger tip shut . When I pulled my finger out it looked like a cobra snake ‘s head ready to attack.

Just a quick note about the 1942 model year: The '42s began production in the summer of 1941, for release in August and September of '41 (exactly the same way they still do it today). Production wasn't slowed until the onset of the war, and it took until February 1942 before the government finally ordered a complete stop. But for a good five or six months, American carmakers were cranking out 1942 models at full tilt.

What a magnificent car with an excellent shell, and interior, almost like new! Historically, and probably financially very significant, as is the family connection! I stopped the video early on, partly because I have to go out, and partly in wonder about how you are going to source parts, like the casings and all the rubber in the break systems etc., in a vehicle about 80 years old! I bet the grease nipples alone would number about a hundred! All the steering mechanisms, grease nipples on the rear springs, king pins, the works. And how would those wheel bearing look after all that time? Since it was protected from the elements, I guess rust won't be as much of a problem as on other cars you have brought back to life.

What a car! Worth keeping as is, especially since it's so rare. I was amazed to see that trim that goes across the sides of the hood and in line with the door handles looks like the same design of the trim on my 1972 Ford pickup. Yours is steel or stainless while the 1972 version is anodized aluminum.

@@Sleeperdude so amazing how you can look at a car decades apart in manufacture date but you see the designers reuse something on that newer vehicle.

Man you know this was an awesome video. Man that is awesome to see your grandfather & to know he is still here with you to allow you to get this beautiful car back on the road. Look like it was a fun road trip to & back from your grandpa's house. Buddy are still going to be one of your fan even if you have to wear socks with your winter flip flops. I like how you said that that was funny. " LOL " that was awesome watching you drive the car with your flip flops on , shifting the gears on the tree , & clutch with your flip-flops on. I have to do that barefooted 👣 styles anytime I drive. Man you really putting those flip-flops to work man & I really enjoyed watching you do that. It goes to show how huge of a flip-flop fan I am & barefooted 👣 fan. That was awesome watching Ralphie pumping the brake pedal Barefooted 👣 styles in the car. Ralphie also tickled me when he put cat litter on his feet 👣 to get better traction. "LOL" I saw a difference in the car once you gave it a bath. I can't wait to watch you clean it up. This was an way too easy project to get it running again. Sleeperdude I really really want one of those flip flop shirts you got & one of your Sleepersdude shirts. I want to represent your channel so bad . I looked in your store for the flip flops shirt and I didn't see it there. I was wondering do you have any of the shirts on you that I can buy from you? This was a great video buddy thank you for sharing.
@Sleeperdude
@Sleeperdude 2 роки тому
It may not show the shirt at the top when you click on the store button but once you go to the actual web site it should show them there. I actually don’t have any to sell in person it is all done out of state I never see them. Thank you for watching

What a great car! Absolutely love it! A genuine 28k mile 1942 Ford like this must be almost unique. But I would have had to squirt some WD40 on that clutch pedal and linkage before setting off! :)

Yeah there can’t be too many left. The problem was the clutch pedal rubbing the floor

Automotive-style 12-volt batteries have been around for quite a while; however, most major American manufacturers did not begin using 12-volt ignition, charging and starting systems until the mid-1950s. Ford, Lincoln and Mercury began using a BCI group size 29N in 1956, their first 12-volt offering.
