Bend the supports in to the under rim diameter so that the supports tightly grip the sidewalls of the stove. Works great and have used mine for over two years with no problem.

I use mine the same way, with the small arms holding the stove and has been great. Only issue is it is very fiddly to simmer and not have the flame go out. I love the review effort and all the reviews Luke!!!

Yeah, it works really quite well when you bend the supports like that. As far as I understand that's how it's primarily designed to be used, so it's a little unfortunate to not have seen it tested in that configuration. Of course you still need a separate windscreen, but the price of the kit combined with the weight and the size of the stand is the killer feature here. I'm not aware of any similar kits within the same price/weight class that support kettles or 18cm diameter frying pans. The stand that I have is 37 grams by itself. Considering the entire kit cost me 14 USD including shipping and tax, I think that's good value for a stove, bag and a stand that elevates and supports larger pots and pans. Do also consider replacing the stove with something lighter. The aluminum stand is strong enough to protect a fragile lightweight alcohol stove nested inside. I've got it down to 67 grams total with a cheap Lixada lightweight (aluminum?) stove that otherwise would get crushed quickly. All that, nested inside a lightweight wide base pot for 275 grams, and with an added windshield for 401 grams total, which I find to be quite respectable.

This was my first alcohol stove that I bought about 4 years ago. It worked okay once i pushed the tabs in to hold the stove below the rim. But I also graduated to the titanium Evernew set. This one was donated to the Boy Scouts.

Just what I was thinking: some adjustment required. That is what Bushcraft is all about. Those of us on a budget, who only get out once in a while, could use this stove and make it better.

I got one of these for free when I bought an Alocs 7-Piece kit. I threw out the burner and kept the simmer ring to use with my Trangia burner as the little flip-out handle makes it way easier to place it onto the burner without having to put your hands over the flame. As for that pot stand, this one is terrible, but the Alocs branded spirit burner stand is WAY less fiddly and nests perfectly within the plastic bowl inside the GSI Pinnacle Soloist pot kit. This allows me to have the pot, bowl, burner and stand inside the pot surrounded by a 3F-UL windscreen, leaving room for a collapsible silicone funnel for putting unused alcohol back into the fuel bottle as well as a small Bic lighter and towel to wipe the pot clean. I honestly think it's the most insanely efficient cooking kit pack-down I've ever seen, and to be honest, I almost feel I should make a video on it...

So Trangia style stoves need to be one inch below the pot for optimum heat. That is the sweet spot. Bend the tabs on the pot stand in so that the lip on the burner sits on top of the tabs. This should give you the right height. Also, it keeps the burner off the cold ground/stump/table. I always use a small circle of reflectix under alcohol burners in the cold. The bloom time and flame output is greatly affected by cold ground. Finally, ditch that wind screen and make a small one out of aluminum flashing that fits tighter around your pot...this will hold a lot more heat in and will help the burner and your pot stay hotter. This will easily cut that boil time in half.

I guess if you’re looking for a quality product, you get what you pay for! That being said, I regularly use one of these cheap alcohol stoves with no problem at all. As others have commented, you press the small tags in until they grip the body of the stove and then sit the small rim of your stove on top of the tags… perfectly stable !!

this stove works for me and works well. it fits in my ohhuhu wood stove that works great for blocking the wind. gets 16oz of water to a roiling boils in 6 mins, and fits in perfect the ohhuhu when packed down. the pot stand is complete trash. im happy with the stove its a nice budget friendly alternative for someone like me who doesnt have the expendable income like you do luke.

I have this stove and love it. Works for a fraction of the cost. Also can be configured where the Stanley 2 cup stainless pot sits secured inside. Absolutely recommend this for someone who's looking for a budget solution.

You have to turn that stand around and push these 3 little tags a bit to the inside so the stove hangs in there and dont touch the ground. Then it works great as windshield and is doing way better. works for me at elast for the last few years.

I was gifted one of these. There are two problems with it: the vapor jets all need to be the same size and you have to bend the small tabs on the stand in a bit for the stove to sit in the stand properly. It's a fine stove, especially for $16. Took less than 5 minutes with a pin vise and a 1.5mm bit to fix the vent holes, and like 8 seconds to bend the tabs correctly. You could use a 1/16" bit and a cordless drill and be done in 30 seconds but I prefer 1.5mm holes and my drill Chuck doesn't hold short bits well. It now boils 16oz of water in exactly the same amount of time as my Trangia small burner. Within 3-5 seconds either way depending on wind, which is always a variable. For less than 5 minutes of elbow grease I now have something that performs as well as my Trangia, cost ~$10 less, holds more fuel and came with a functional stand (which the Trangia did not include any stand). My only complaint is that the cover on the simmer ring is slightly stiff on the Redcamp, but then the Trangia doesn't have the little binder clip handle from the manufacturer so... Opinions vary 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hi Luke, from Australia 🇦🇺, I have one of these stoves and I’m thinking of buying another. The thing is your using it wrong, sit the stove (the rim) on top of those flanges, not under like you have it set up. You may have to squeeze the flanges in a little close towards the centre, but I use my stove and it works really well. I bought it on eBay, I think it was around $20 Aussie money, the stove works great. 👍🏻

sitting the stove on bare rock is obviously going to effect the performance. if you must compare stoves do it in a fair manner. I do sometimes wonder what you're thinking of.

Amazing stove, not sure why you against it so much and slay it like it's the worst thing you've ever seen... It does the job and I'm using it for years and never had any issues with it, it never felt, never slided or whatever and it's super stable you just need to know how to set it up. I've used other stoved before, and this one is the best.

Well, I appreciate your review. That being said I did buy one of those just not the redcamp version, mine is noname but identical. I have had a different experience in that the base does require a slight bending in of the small tabs and it secures the stove quite securely and also brings the level of the stove top closer to the pot bottom which makes a huge difference in function. I believe it only really has two options for the support one is as I described being held in the grip of the three small supports and definitely not going under them and the other as you showed on top. The other thing is that I would have started the timer after it had Bloomed. My final comment is I use Methal hydrate in my stove and never use alcohol, I find the Meths burn hotter and cleaner. Just my 2 cents I am happy with mine

Even just watching the video its clear to see that some slight bending of either the inner "tabs" or the outer "legs" can dramatically improve the fit and thus stability and usability of the stove. i think Luke is being deliberately obtuse - its like watching a SNL skit of O J Simpson deliberately fumbling with a pair of gloves to make it appear they can't possibly fit.

Omg brother I bought this exact same stove combo and I just thought all alcohol stoves were garbage after using it. I never ever took it into the mountains choosing mini gas instead which you can't beat in my opinion. Another great vid cheers

I don't know what is wrong with yours. Mine is not fiddly at all. When I put mine in the upper level it will not fall through and is well centered. I actually never use it in the lower configuration. Not really sure why you'ld want to. The simmer feature is nice but has the same issue as my trangia in that it is a bid of a chore to get it to a low simmer without it going out completely. I have a small piece of carbon felt that I pack with it to keep it from rattleing and to use a wind break when necessary. Just my thoughts.

Hi Luke. I've had that stove for a couple of years. Works great for me. I sit it on top of the flanges which gets it closer to the pot. I also use a wind screen. I also took a piece of heavy wire and bent it into a V shape to lay across the top to accommodate a cup or different size pots. For the light stuff I use it for I love it. God Bless my friend.

I’ve had an off brand alcohol stove just like that for well over a year and I bent my tabs in and sit the stove down inside on top of those tabs and can boil two cups of water in my Stanley pot in about 5 minutes.

Thanks for your review of this stove. It is similar to the pathfinder stove in two ways. It holds a greater amount of fuel than the Trangia but it doesn't burn as well. BTW the Trangia also has the o'ring but the problem is in the seam where the top of the stove is attached to the bottom. The fluid may not drip out but over a few days it will evaporate out so the stove is empty when you want to use it. There is an outfit that solders the seam and sells the Trangia's that way so they will hold alcohol for weeks at a time. The reason for putting up with this is that Trangia's have the best flame bloom of any other stove.

Forget to stop the time. How cold was the water to begin with? How much wind? How cold was that pot? Repeat the test in summertime, put the kettle in the sun to warm up before using it and you’ll see the difference. Besides, I’m not trying to escape so I’ve got plenty of time to heat up water. A few minutes more or less, who cares. I don’t care which ever stove you use, the one you have is better than the one you don’t have. Also, even the trangia can leak if your rubber sealing is shot. I always carry an empty alcohol stove. Any liquid fuel leaking into your lunch sucks. My choice of alcohol stove is the X-boil. You get to chose the right size fittet to your pot to improve efficiency. Ultralight, usable with alcohol or tablets. And the mini stove uses a material to prevent spillage. For other occasions I use gas or hobo wood stoves.

My first alcohol (methylated spirit) stove came from Woolworths, 58 years ago. I cooked on it for a week, 3 meals a day and lots of cups of tea. Used less than a pint of meths. The trick is to know how long a set amount of fuel burns for, you really need to have only a couple of minutes of burn time left when your stew is hot.

I just unbent the three little tabs on the stand and then pushed them slightly toward the center, curving the ends slightly. That holds the stove much higher at the stove's lip. The stove itself performs very much like the Trangia.

IV got one of those, and it looks like the little supports on the stand on yours have been bent outwards so that it doesn't support the stove very well. Mine is really snug and fits perfect. Good thorough review though mate 👌

Overall, an accurate review. My boil times are close to the same. As you said, if it's your first alcohol stove you might not mind. I don't mind haha! That said, I appreciate getting some perspective. Here in Northern Japan, that stove seems to be the only alcohol stove available, so it will do in pinch. I'm normally not in a hurry when I use it. One thing is obvious from the comments. This stove sells like hotcakes, but I'm sure anyone with an esoteric level of stoviness will avoid 😉

You are so right. I use my 40 year old trangia. with a jar lid as as a snuffer. The lid and the simmer ring I clip together bottom to bottom so that the rim of the Trangia sits about even with the collar in my Bushbuddy wood stove. If it's dry, I burn twigs and if it's rainy wet, I use the Trangia. This setup is the best I have found for myself. The Trangia and jar lid snuffer. all fit together inside the collapsed Bushbuddy stove. Also it is a VERY safe setup. (Just remove the BB collar with a pot grabber before you snuff)

I have that stove and love it. Yes i use a wind screen but the tabs on yours need to be bent in. My stove pops into the tabs and the lip rest on the tabs. That puts the stove about 1 1/2 inches from the pot. I also made a triangle "trivet " for a stanley French press to set on. That's my only compliant is the stand is too large for small pots unless you put stand on top of stove. Then it's base is too small to be stable. Mine takes and 7 minutes to boil with 32oz stanley French press. 🤷

Had mine for a couple years now and I like it. And I like the pot stand. I use it with method 2 and 4….but I bent the small supports in a little to hold it snug. Also with method 4….my 750ml fits perfect. Guess it just depends on what you have. Ps…. The summer thing is kinda worthless on it though. It always goes out on me.

The Redcamp one works fine once you clean it out. It ships with an oil coating that takes forever to burn through, but once you do it works like the Trangia it's a clone of. So you can either let it burn a very long time (30+ min) and deal with lots of soot from that oil sheen, or use a de-greaser. Either way, it doesn't work well out-of-box and needs some prep work.

I saw short showing this windshield being used in a different way. It was dropped over the top of the stove rather then being used as a base. That way the heat the heat came up through the circular hole. So you basically use it turned upside down. It looked as if it made a more efficient wind shield that way. But I wasn't overly impressed.

5 seconds and it’s easy to adjust so it works in various ways. The one thing I did was use torch tip cleaners to clean up the fuel vapor holes. It works great now.

I personaly love this little chinese stove and the pot stand makes it very versatile. Got mine straight from China brand new on ebay for $10. came in a generic box with a nioce little carry pouch. Mine is completely unbranded. Boil time is comparible to the Trangia. The Trangia however does not come with either a pot stand nor the handle on the flame regulator which allows you to manage your flame without getting burned. (cant believe Trangia never thought of that). The pot stand is super light weight and allows you to accomodate a host of different cooking utensils and yes, it does actually act as a low level wind sheild espacially when turned upside down. Also this little chinese burner does not leak stored fuel like the Trangia does. Im my opinon is agreat value. Fully recommend.

i have the same stove and i find it works quite ok for the price. As for the brass stove not sitting on the base securely simply bend in the 3 support tabs very slightly and it fits 100% perfectly .. not loose in any way .. yes there are better stoves on the market but not at this price .. i have to give it a thumbs up for the money

I used the stand upside down, stainless steel mugg 600ml water and it took 31 minutes to get water boiling. Using stand "normal" way...16 minutes to boiling. I bent the stand to match better both the burner and mugg. Windshield is a must to have thing.

I’ve used this stove and he has the stove sitting on the bottom of the frame. and I have not had the problems he is indicating. If you bend the three prong just a small bit, the stove sits in the bracket just fine which increases the burn time significantly. My burn time was about 9 minutes including the priming time.

The restampers don't understand it either. The burner sits on the base. That gives 2 inches to bottom of pot.

I have to say I think the little stove is getting a bum rap. This was my first alcohol stove and I modified the little stand by carefully bending the pot supports in toward the center so that it fits my smaller cups and pots. I also had to adjust the tabs to make the burner sit properly without falling down into the center. The burner is no Trangia Military model (a BEAST!) but it doesn't do so bad. Now the claims of several different positions for the pot holder is pretty bogus, and it lacks a windscreen, but it works ok.

An addendum. . .if you buy the Esbit alcohol burnier, it is IDENTICAL to the Redcamp. I lit both burners and they seem to burn the same. I think the problem is more with the STAND than the burners. I got .5 liters of water in a pan to a rolling boil in around 4 minutes, once the burners got going good. If the stand is too close to the pot, or if you don't let the burner get burning really well you WILL have ridiculously long boil times. I used the Redcamp with the stand sitting on top of the burner rim and it was much better.

As a retiree the price was what sold me on this. I've always used #2 and never had the problem getting it to stay on the supports you seemed to have. Your right it is fussy getting it in and out from under the supports for storage. I've had it for 2 years now. I guess I'll have to look at something better or a homemade one to compare.

I got mine for 3 pound of Ali express . I make a groove in the mud then use the last config. It's great for heating cups of water for brews and cooking in mess tins. 3 pounds. And fuel is 4 pound.

If you use it like its recommended with the pots rim resting on the L brackets it burns much faster than what you show with your setup. Most stoves that boil faster also use much more fuel than it does. Not saying it's the best cause it's not but you're using it in a way that it shouldn't be used and it doesn't work well that way. It is about an average alcohol stove it's faster than the Trangia and slower than some others.

You must have a poorly made stove. Bad quality control maybe? Mine is 3 years old and I think works great. It does burn fuel quicker than my Trangia though. I can boil 2 cups of water at 30 degrees F in about 6.5 to 7 minutes with mine. A windscreen is required with ANY alcohol stove. A PC fan guard works well with the stand. Paid $12 for mine (half the price of the Trangia at that time) and for the price I am satisfied with it. Highly suggest that you do not store alcohol in this or any alcohol stove. Even the Trangia will eventually leak. Just like any other tool, you have to learn how to use it.

about the supports for holding the stove, in another youtube video it was very straight forward and easily slid in and the edge of the supports caught the outter most rim of the stove and it was a snug fit. Your example seems to have been altered and your supports are VERY bent outward and not within spec as intended. you need to push them inward a bit because it's clear to see they were forced apart, making contact at all 3 points difficult when it shouldn't be.

This video is a very good example of why doing your own research is important. The tabs on the one in the video are clearly bent outward. This might have happened during production or shipping, but with the emphasis on how poor the stove is I'm leaning toward a simple lack of creativity during sabotage. My stanley kettle fits perfectly with the appropriate clearance for a steady boil and wind protection. I'm glad I already owned this kit before watching the video as the gentleman might have convinced me otherwise. My take away, do your own research!

I had to bend mine inward slightly just to get my stanley cookset to sit on top of that frame. Once I get enough saved, I want to find a good but affordable titanium alcohol stove.

I have this stove and it worked... a little out of the box. To make it better, the three inner tabs on the stand need to be pushed in to snugly hold the stove off the bottom. The quality seems to be hit or miss (probably more miss 😄) and I had to tweak mine a little to get it to work well. I still use it occasionally but it won't ever be as good as the Trangia or others so I would definitely recommend something else - especially since the price has been going up. The Trangia is what... $25 compared to this at $18? Definitely worth the extra few dollars and finding a good stand.

I tested a similar stove along with a Tea Candle stove and a Military Fuel Stove with one cup of water.. I returned the Alcohol Stove. Thanks for a great review.. So honest it shocks me.. Got punished again by face book for tell the truth about a sponsors item... Me Bad.. I live in the Shadow of Mr. Rodale...

These clones of Trangia TB25 burner are made by company that made the ALOCS knockoff (or Trangia), but they lack a important feature: The internal wick - in Trangia a cloth (Linen) tube around the outside of inner tube wall, what speed the alcohol vaporization, reduce bloom and boil times. The ALOCS have the wick.

I hate alcohol stoves. I have used an MSR pocket rocket for years and it boils water fast. I use what works and carrying around a bottle of spillable fuel just does not make sense to me. Thanks for the review.

Those 3 tabs have been bent out ,the ridge around burner is designed to sit on those 3 tabs ,not fall through it

Luke, I agree with you on the stoves performance mostly. I bought this stove many years ago when I first got into alcohol stoves. I learned on the cooking stand you can easily bend the tabs down to get the stove to sit better and it bring the stove closer to the pot. I totally agree with you on the stand itself, just rubbish. I use the 2 bars the make a X on top of the stove which works fine but you lose simmer factor and have to blow out the flame before closing the stove. Yes it could be much better.

I've got the same stove and use a titanium cross-plate pot support rather than the included pot stand (mainly because it's HUGE and doesn't fit the smaller cook pots I typically use - IMUSA mug or GSI Minimalist). It's not as fast as a fancy feest, but for day hikes and such, I like the fact that I can just fill this with fuel rather than bring along a separate bottle. Luckily, mine has not leaked in my pack.

With all that snow it is below room temp. Plus you did not have the shield close enough around your burn. My plenty of experience with that stove gives 6mins for 2cups from 20"c... you need more experience......

Looks like your stove stand was “modified”. The stove supports should grip the stove tightly, holding the stove to the proper height for best efficiency. I love my Trangia and Evernew spirit burners. My Trangia 28 came with a stand that I believe the Red Camp was patterned after. I do also have a RedCamp stove like you just featured. It’s almost as good as the Trangia as well. I believe the biggest difference is the Trangia (and Evernew) have a kind of felt in the fuel reservoir while the RedCamp does sot. Still it performs almost on par. Boil times are less than half of what you got.

Dunno, I've built a bunch of pop can type stoves and some twig stoves. Often thought of buying a Trangia. Never got around to it. I see on Amazon the variations on the same stove. That kit would not be preferred. Alternates look better, but it seems that the stove itself is sloppily made. I have several alcohol day hike kits with a pop can stove, pot stand, flashing wind screen and a fuel bottle, tea bags/coffee tubes, that all fit in an IMUSA cup. Great for coffee/tea break, raman lunch, or a simple dehydrated dinner. Only alcohol stoves I've used. The only Chinese thing I've bought that worked well was a $19 micro canister stove.

Have no idea what your burning in that stove but I love mine. Has always worked flawlessly when using 91% alcohol or heet. I have been using mine for over a year and I was so impressed I bought another. Also it’s a given fact that when using a alcohol stove, a wind screen is a must. Can see absolutely no reason to spend money needlessly on over priced stoves when this stove works great. Are you sponsored by a manufacturer of camping gear ? Sounds like it to me.

I agree about the flip-out handle on the simmer ring, so much easier to use to snuff out a flame than using the Trangia simmer ring. Trangia should adapt this feature.

I have the same with a different stamp, I bent the stupid tabs up so it stacks with my stanley inside a 10x4. But I tend to use it inside my Ohuhu gasifier instead of its own stand, windshielding and stand in one.

Strange, I started using one of the stoves to lighten my pack after a year of inactivity due to Chemotherapy. I use a folding windscreen with mine, and have had no issues after months of use. I was pleasantly surprised with the heat output and boil time of my stove. The pot support is strong enough to handle an MSR pot and camp frypan easily. Maybe you received a defective unit?

Thanks Luke for the video. I know you are not a big fan of alcohol stoves. I suggest trying the Toaks Titanium Siphon Stove. It is very efficient and easy to reclaim unused ETOH. And did I say "LITE"? It has changed my opinion on alcohol burners.

ETOH? I agree with u on alcohol siphon stoves. I own the Lixada version, a little bigger but same efficiency & easy to snuff to recover unused fuel. Easy to mod & make a simmer ring.

those fins or supports, I would press them so that they would be more bent inwards so that the alcoholstove can stand on it. But how stable? as to not let the alcohol get to cold. also i would try putting a few drops of alcohol on the simmer-ring for a pre-burn. you may not need a windscreen if you dig a small hole. still good to have though since a chilling wind will cool the container you are heating and helps trap some heat. If I owned this It would be interesting to try it out when i have the time.

As I watched your video review, I thought this stove looked familiar. Turns out I bought it in July 2019, when I thought I wanted to try alcohol stoves. used it once and never again. I went back to canister stoves, I thought my issues were with the concept of alcohol stoves. After this, I might try alcohol stoves again. Thank you.

I have a Trangia as a back up stove in my van I have used on short hikes and on the picnic table as a warmer. It is an awesome stove and has functioned well for almost four years. You get what you pay for and $18 is even too much for the stove you reviewed.

It is just the same as other alcohol stoves. Make a side by side comparison with the Trangia and it is just marginally slower. I think the fact that is fragile is the main difference to be honest. The stand is pretty useless thought, if the point is minimalism, then a cross stand is better.

My favourite set is very simple: Trangia burner, cross stand pot support directly on the burner, windshield around it. Perfect.

I've had one of those for about 2 years. I don't find it horrible but definitely not the best thing going. The stand is the biggest issue for me. I like using it to make coffee while hunting and the only way to use that stand with a canteen cup is to bury the prongs in the dirt and sit the cup on the bottom of the stand.

I have just done a test with 7 alcohol stoves and yes.. this stove was one of the.. it's shockingly bad. I had it up against a tringia and the prime time is so different. For me.. Tringia all the way. You're so right Luke. This stove is just relabeled and passed off as a different brand. You should check out the Xboil. Brilliant unit.
