Welcome to my channel! This is part 1 of my RC tank track robot loader build.
I have always wanted to build a tank track robot for carrying out specific needs around the house. For instance, carrying the groceries in the house, plowing sand and gravel, lifting and hauling large and heavy items like cement bags, and the occasional outdoor scouting surveillance missions.
It would also be cool to make it semi autonomously so that it could navigate around obstacles
In the next episode, I will design and build a grapple arm mechanism for it so I can lift and maneuver heavy items with ease.
Hope you like the video!

@@motorsandvoltsandrobots7162 That's awesome! Keep at it, watching more UKposts vids, making and breaking stuff while learning along the way and you'll be amazed at how far you've come. Stateside, it's a real pain in the ass to find tracks for robots! That's why I went directly from China from a company named PUYI INDUSTRIAL. At the time, I dealt business with a lady by the name of Alice Zhang. She helped me find the size I wanted. They even machined the drive wheels you see in the video. Unfortunately, rubber robot tracks are not really cheap, but these were affordable compared to other online websites. I bought these about 3-4 years ago and I paid roughly $450 with shipping. They offer their tracks for direct purchase on other websites such as made-in-china.com. If you Google their name, you'll find them. Hope this helps and best of luck!

Man I will pull plastic chips like that, carefully, off a lathe all day, but hell no with stainless. made my skin crawl. I really like how you leveraged the use of that i beam for structural integrity, just straight threading the shafts into the faces is something I would have never considered.

Haha yea it is pretty stupid of me to grab them like that. I ended up learning the hard way and got cut on my thumb a few weeks later 🤦‍♂️. Thanks! The I beam definitely makes for a very robust frame for me to bolt everything to 👍 It is also great because there is no welding involved, no weak points, and very little machining is needed to get to a rolling chassis!

Since the motors are upsidedown does that lessen their lifespan? I have 4 with the same reducer box and I thought they had to be mounted upright or they'd fail earlier.
@Brute4rce1111
@Brute4rce1111 Рік тому
They would if you didn't change out the oil for grease. With the oil, it would starve the area dry being upsidedown. That was my only concern when mounting them like that. Because of this , I drained the oil and packed in grease instead.

Hi! :) Very helpful video! :) Keep up the good work! :) I am building a tracked chassis for a lawnmower. I got a 45degree slope that need mowing. Do you got any idea how to calculate approximate torque needed, or what type of motor is needed to make 20kgs move uphill at 45+degrees? I need to order motors. Motors can be DC 12-24V but are restricted to 2,1A continous and 3,7A peak current. Possibly worm-gear type? What motors did you source? Tracks have been ordered. All input appreciated. :)
@Brute4rce1111
@Brute4rce1111 11 місяців тому
Sounds like an interesting build! There are a lot of different factors that play a role in selecting drive motors, especially if your robot needs to climb at a 45 degree slope. That being said, I found it easier to get the biggest motors you can safely run without overwhelming whatever speed controllers you intend on using. For a robot your size, you could probably get away with automotive power window motors since they draw only a couple of amps, are inexpensive and they are already equipped with a worm gearbox. (The small Denso power window motors are great) The thing to really keep in mind is what overall speed you want out of the robot, the radius of drive wheel and theoretical max stall torque of the robots wheels. A 20 kg robot with a drive wheel radius of 100 mm going up a 45 degree slope would probably need at least 18 NM of total torque, so about 9 NM per motor as a quick guess. If the drive wheel is smaller, than it would obviously require a lot less torque to push it along. Hope this helps!
@join811
@join811 11 місяців тому
@@Brute4rce1111 Thank you for your reply. I'll most definitely have a look into the power window motors! They are 12V and might be a suitable size. There are the 250W 24V wheelchair motors, but the voltage needs change from 12-24V then + motor driver modifications. Ordered drive wheels are 150mm, so a motor @ 10rpm (IDK the speed) will make it run about 5metres a minute. Thanks! I'll order some powerwindow motors at first and see if they can do the job.

The wheels are made of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene. It is a very durable, impact resistant plastic that has very low wear properties. The tracks are just regular rubber reinforced with kevlar.

The lathe has new tapered Nachi spindle bearings, steel headstock gears, steel QCTP, and a couple other mods. Mill also has new spindle tapered Nachi bearings, speed controller, 2.3 HP treadmill motor and custom turned 2:1 belt and pulley reduction. Cool ... I want your tank😊 Sorry for my stupid questions, I am a beginner trying to build my first tank. The three smaller wheels in the middle of track not spinning? How you get 500 watt to power your tank? How can you move the wheels forward and backward without motor driver? How many kg are your weight? How to count power voltage and ampere needed to carry certain kg burden?
@Brute4rce1111
@Brute4rce1111 2 роки тому
Hey thanks! The three wheels act like roller bearings for the track, and as such are not directly powered by the motor but they spin in place. The robot will eventually be powered by a 24 volt 30 AH lithium battery pack that i still have to buy. The motors will be controlled by two 60 amp electronic speed controllers with basic radio transmitter and receiver. I weigh about 63.6 kilograms and the robot is designed to carry a total mass of at least 100 kilograms. To calculate power and voltage was nothing fancy, I just needed 24 volt motors to mate with the 24 volt speed controllers that I already have. To account for force required to move a 100 kg mass, I looked for motors that could achieve twice that. In this case, wheelchair motors are all over eBay and local garage sales for very cheap. They also operate at 24 volts with 100 percent duty cycle and with rugged built in gearboxes. They also are made for moving sometimes very large people over steep inclines without drawing too many amps. They would draw about 30 amps max at stall but would only consume a few amps when carrying a 30% load. Whenever I design a project like this, I usually double the maximum real world forces I would realistically put on the robot and find an appropriate motor that matches those performance requirements. Hope this helps :)

Those axles are super duper over engineered. I like the idea of the kitset tracks I thought oh yeah I could maybe have a crack but then you spent most of the video on a lathe turning and threading a few chunks of metal. Couldn't you just buy a pipe or tube and use that? Most people don't have industrial lathes in their garage
@Brute4rce1111
@Brute4rce1111 10 місяців тому
I'm sure anyone could buy of the shelf pipes or other shafts that would fit the wheels. However, this machine will see lots of heavy loads and I didn't want to take any chances of the shafts bending under heavy loads. I wanted the shafts to be as strong as possible, which is why I machined them out of titanium. Titanium has a much higher tensile and flexural strength compared to steel.
