@@eladbari In the sense of: It's an anti-consumer design decision that I would not support by buying the product. Referring to the old version is a cop-out by the manufacturer, which should be way more heavily criticized by reviewers than it has been in this video.

@@HolySteel Soldered lpddr5x has less power consumption than any sodimm equivalent by a significant margin as well as supports higher frequencies, and it's obvious that gamers are not the target audience with this redesign. This G14 appeals to the segment of customers who would otherwise be purchasing a Blade Stealth or a Macbook, hence the massive upgrade to an aluminum unibody from the dogshit that was magnesium alloy. If you'd like a ridiculously hefty amalgamation of plastic and aluminum or steel with some gaudy gamer design then there are plenty of other manufacturers delivering just that, but Asus has upped the ante and is appealing to customers of a higher purchasing segment now.

according to asus' website, most of the variants of these models will have IPS as an option. according to asus' site, the 4080 and 4090 versions of the G16, however, will have just the OLED screen. though that'll depend on the country. like, in Canada, there currently are no variants with IPS panels. but they're not even on sale yet, so we'll see.

It’s great that these laptops aren’t overly “gamery”, and actually double as business laptops pretty decently. And it has Windows Hello biometrics, even if it is IR camera only

I started college last year and I bought the 2023 G16 in September and the 2024 refresh looks so good. The G16 is the best gaming laptop I've ever owned and the 2024 refresh is looking like it's gonna be fire. Wish I could swap mine for the newest one.

I'm on an M1 Macbook Pro 14 and the only thing holding me back is the x86 idle power. These are really compelling offerings for the professional segment.

These laptops look like great packages. I bought a 2021* G14 last year on sale to replace a 1070 Max-Q laptop and I am overall satisfied with the upgrade but there's definitely some limitations with the 3060 having only 6 GB of VRAM. Might have to add one of these laptops to the want list.

I have been waiting for an OLED panel on these since 2021. I will wait for the Zen 5 models next year, but I will get one for sure now. Hopefully the GPU will also updated with RDNA 4 in 2025. And now that the RAM is soldered, it has to be 32GB. I have been building PCs all my life, but I decided to go with a laptop next. Much more convenient.

Would have preferred without that strip on the lid. It's arguable that it looks more understated than the previous version. AniMe lid was over the top, but the versions with just the perforations (no LEDs) looked fine. This one stands out, even with the lighting off.

The new LED stripe is dumb. It is basically clinging onto the Anime Matrix which was already kinda of gimmicky and stupid, but now it's even more worthless. The fact that RAM and Storage is now Soldered is a HUGE downgrade. I mean it's embarrassing you would say this is "expected' of thinner laptops. Then ASUS in their genius lab was like, "oh everyone hates barrel chargers right? Well well just make rectangle chargers" I mean really!??!? Everyone wanted a USB-C charger not going from a circle to a rectangle. All in all the only thing that improved was the CPU (maybe) and the display panel, everything else was a downgrade.

Do you see apple struggling to standout with their all grey aluminum chasis and one simple logo? If you're known for good quality products then you won't need the tacky gimmicks. The ProArt Studiobook Pro 16 also from Asus this year does exactly what I'm talking about. Sleek metal unibody, no stupid lights, nice very clean profession looking ProArt logo. If only they came with higher end models as well like 4080 or 4090 models and were priced a bit lower I'd pick them every time over the gamery models.@@benedictlang7431

The upgradeability is a point of contention for me. A single stick on older Zephyrus models kinda pushed me towards the legion products, now there's no upgradeable ram at all? Guys these laptops are gonna be expensive, and for a non upgradeable system, its only good sense to move more towards the 32Gb option. Question at that price point is, will it be worth all those trade-offs?

Thin and light is great, up to a point. When you start sacrificing upgradability and battery life for it then you are taking a step backward for, "but it looks cooooool..." Not a fan of the diagonal light scratch on the lid. I'm never gonna see it and I imagine it will just annoy people who do see it. Also, not being able to upgrade the RAM and I'm assuming that they are going to be pricing alongside Razer's products means that it's a no from me unfortunately. Also, telling us to buy the older product if we don't like soldered RAM means you better not be dinging any manufacturer this year for putting in soldered memory HC crew...

The RAM is now part of the SOC made by Intel and therefore no OEM this year will be able to do much about these new gen chip's RAM. I think Intel did it so that they can supply the latest LPDDR5X RAM which as far as I know is not available as modular and will never be. So for the 5% that insist on upgradeable RAM you will have to buy older machines, for the rest of us that do not care and just buy the RAM we need, it is moot.

I'm more peeved about the lack of 4080 and higher options for the g14. Although there's nothing stopping Asus from adding a vapor chamber to the g14 to get better cooling like how they did with the G16 (having 2 different cooling system depending on the GPU)

2024 G14 seems like a bit of a downgrade specs wise. 2023 could go up to a 4090 and has a vapor chamber for cooling. 2024 G14 only goes up to a 4070 with no vapor chamber. Interesting choice by Asus.

2023 variant had a 4090 with a TGP of 120 watts, which crippled the 4090, I am glad they went for something which makes sense in a 14 inch form factor, this year's model is also light and smaller.

Vapor chambers offer impressive performance until temperatures get very hot. A 4090 on a small laptop like this with a vapor chamber is a terrible pairing, imo.

125W 4090 is faster than 175W 4080. And a 125W 4080 is 50% faster than 90W 4070. Not to mention 50% more VRAM. @@nishomzawan5196

I was very close buying the samsung ultra 4 but this seems like a better deal and better battery and better keyboard probably and better speakers which makes it a huge step closer to a Macbook

My Razer Blade 18: RTX 4090 16GB GDDR6, i9-13950HX 5.5GHz 24Cores 32Threads, 2TB, Black, 32GB DDR5, 18" 240Hz QHD+ 2560x1600, Vapor Chamber is much superior to this laptop. Calling that ROG laptop a Razer Blade killer is a far exaggerated overstatement. 😶🌫

They remove upgradable ram slot because they want to install battery as large as possible into the chassis. This has nothing to do with ligthness or thinness, this is a question of motherboard area and battery area.

Great laptops and great review Eber! I would really love to know if Asus will have an upgraded version of the Zenbook 14(X) OLED laptops with Ryzen 7x4x or Ryzen 8x4x CPUs. So far I have purchased 2 different versions of them(I loved to use both) and I would buy the new model too, if it had the new CPUs. Is there a chance for you to find out from them? Thanks Just found the new AMD Zenbook 14 OLED: it is the: UM3406 HA It has Ryzen 7 8840HS, 16Gb lpddr5 6400, 1TB Nvme SSD, USB 4 type C port, and finally the IR camera for windows hello arrived! This will be THE BEST EVER ZENBOOK 14 OLED, OR THE BEST ULTRABOOK EVER!

Meanwhile the 2022 models are still on bugged BIOS. I should've returned this but ASUS supported ensured me that it would soon be fixed. As soon as my return window closed they even stopped replying to my tickets... Now two years later i doubt i will receive a refund.

It’s a little better than the 13900HS in benchmarks but much higher power efficiency

The Ultra 9 is not great.. about 35% weaker than an HX processor. The Ultra 9 is, however, better at power efficiency when unplugged from the charger. That is it's only pro to an HX processor.

I just bought a 2023 G14 and MacBook Air. Maybe I will buy the G14 2025 and the next MacBook by then. But overall seem ok. Thermals and performance are my worries with the se new laptops

I definitely hate the soldered RAM, but unfortunately if you want to get to those higher RAM speeds, it needs to be LPDDRX, and soldered as close to the CPU package as possible to achieve it, so yeah. Unfortunate, but I get it

At least they are offering 32GB options at relatively cheap upgrade pricing that should be good enough for the vast majority. I never need to upgrade my RAM so getting the fastest with the lowest latency is 1000X more important for me.

@@andyH_England I mean, I upgraded my i7 8750H from the JEDEC spec to a low latency dual rank DDR4 Kingston HyperX Impact kit and saw slight improvements, but those days are long gone 🫠 DDR5 SODIMM speeds are still not as good, and the only way to extract more performance is by soldering them as close to the CPU package as possible. So yeah, I'd be fine with the 32GB soldered option too 🫠
