His mental clarity and intelligence on the game are what amazes me. The game keeps on changing, the surfaces, the balls, the rackets, everything keeps changing.. But a truly intelligent player understands these changes and adapts his game. That's what Federer keeps telling here, he's gathering information. About the surface, tournament, opponents, and most of all himself.

Watching Roger today against Cilic it was hard to believe he will be 40 in August. His stamina,movement and understanding of the game is immense and looking at him today he played more like a 29 year old that someone who is 39. Wimbledon begins on June 28th so not long to go. If he plays at SW19 like he did today he could be a challenger for another Wimbledon title. Still is and always has been a supreme athlete and long may he continue.

The clown umpire today gave Roger the time violation after 18 seconds after the last point ended for Cilic to step up to the line and bounce the ball 10 times?! So if Cilic wants to bounce the ball 19 times (which he did on a few occasions) then Roger has 10 seconds to walk to the towel and get to the other side for so not to delay Cilic's ball bouncing routine of 6, 8, 9, 12,15, 19 bounces. Exactly as Roger said in his press conference - he's not going to be rushed when Marin wants to rush to get to the line only to have him not serve and bounce it 10 times
@sunilthomas82162 роки тому
Nailed it. These never ending bouncers like Cilic are quite annoying really.

Let’s all remind Roger how good he is so that he doesn’t doubt his game. I feel so bad that he has to worry about his mental game so much but tennis is a solo sport so you are all by yourself when you are in the court. You can really psych yourself out.
@ansonhansley45782 роки тому
Being a solo sport, that’s where the mental game is most important. Because you have no one to help you out. Being a 20 time grand slam champion, I’m pretty sure he knows himself better than you and I

@rajarshighosh48212 роки тому
He might not be a legend of the sport but nonetheless he is an achiever, having won 4 grand slams. That is no mean feat.
@bsrussian2 роки тому
@@rajarshighosh4821 even winning 1 slam makes you a legend. When Domi thiem retires he'll be a legend if his uso was the only one. Sure, a more minor legend, but a unique game challenging the big 3.
@Incandescence5552 роки тому
@@bsrussian I don't think winning a slam makes you a 'legend' of the sport, it makes you a great player but certainly not a legend.
@rajarshighosh48212 роки тому
@@bsrussian don't agree with your observation. The big 3 have redefined the meaning of legend. In tennis terms, Grand Slam victories are the yardstick for evaluating greatness. Nadal, Federer and Djokovic are legends due to their insatiable hunger for raising the bar. Similarly, Sampras is a legend. But Thiem isn't a legend.

I agree. I think Federer was a little too candid there. Hopefully next time they play (outside slams), he ends up winning against Roger. He upset Novak in Aus Open 2017 so clearly he's not an amateur
@tejeshkonchada39712 роки тому
"Did not have enough to worry me" he meant that Istomin that day was not playing with enough energy. So then he explains how he used drop shots and angles to make Istomin move around. Probably Istomin after 3 qualifiers is exhausted at 35 years of age.
