My thoughts exactly. He's a top ten player in the quarters yet again. Most pros never achieve those two statistics even once in their careers. If he wants to continue playing, he should be welcome. And if he feels he wants to quit, we should respect that too and thank Roger for 23 great years of tennis.

My take is: for dominant players of any sport is not a challenge to "just make it as far as they can" in a given competition, they are there to win it; by the time they see those victories less and less attainable, retirement becomes a realistic option on the table

I agree. But I believe Federer is very dissatisfied with his level. I'll be honest, since his comeback, he hasn't even played close to a level resembling pre injury. He should have lost his 1st round match if it wasn't for the unfortunate injury. The bad form must be a big issue on his mind.

He reaches the Quarter-Finals of Wimbledon at the age of 39 after having surgery and only having a few matches under his belt this season. That's still extraordinary considering how many players fail to get to the QFs at all during their careers. That's no small feat.
@johnjeffers1524
@johnjeffers1524 2 роки тому
I agree. What killed him today was the forehand errors, and Hurkacz having his A, maybe A+ game. I don't think he would have won that match even 5 years ago; perhaps it would have gone 4 or 5, but if Hurkacz kept that level and Federer kept missing forehands - from very easy, to medium difficulty - he could not win the match not matter what age, or what surface. Which is good news, really. I don't think it was age that beat him today, and I am hoping and believing that he will continue to improve for the year.

@@PJ-cm8ix But that entitlement attitude helped him win. He lost that unbeatable champion mindset after Nadal thrashed him in 2008 RG and later dethroned him in Wimbledon. Federer hasn't been the same player since. He still won Slams after that point and was dominant for another few years but he lost his confidence and champion mindset. Look at how Nadal plays at RG or Djokovic, they have the mindset to win. Federer lost that long time ago. I suspect Nadal has also lost it after this year's RG and Djokovic will probably lose it in a couple of years after some younger guys start beating him in Slams. Unfortunately, the era of Big 3 has ended, it's just Big 2 now and soon they'll all be retired.

How fortunate we are, those of us who have followed Roger's career, and have enjoyed his incalculable contribution to tennis! How many forty-year-olds are able to compete with guys in their early twenties who are rapidly improving, en route to becoming great champions? Roger Federer's long career has been a blessing-to himself, to his family, AND to his fans. If he wants to play a bit more, and he feels like he can be competitive, he ought to keep it going; if he's healthy and he's having fun, why not? People are fickle. They forget the simple details -- 14 month layoff, two major knee surgeries still healing, Federer playing with little match practice being almost 40. He still made the quarters, and he can obviously still play. it is a question of consistency, and whether he wants to play and put in the work. He is not going anywhere right now. The loss today can be explained very simply with one thing: no strength left in the legs. This trickles to slow first step to the ball, slow movement overall, shanking shots all over the place (many unforced errors) because ball is not centered in the middle of the racquet because of being late to the ball, slower first and second serves and no energy all around affecting the mental game also. It’s all related to the legs!!! Those operations and age is really hurting Roger. It’s a miracle he made it to the quarters but he was exposed by a confident strong player.

It was an impressive performance but was also definitely more than a ‘bad day’. Roger hasn’t lost a set 6-0 at Wimbledon in the entirety of his career, and he hasn’t lost in straight sets at Wimby since 2001 iirc. Imo this was definitely more to do with him not having played enough matches prior to the tournament (as many others have pointed out). But to say it was just a bad day just like other players can have? I don’t think so. Anyway, Roger can bounce back. Looking forward to seeing him hopefully play a busy year of tennis in preparation for next summer.

But for me there is nobody who's game is so enjoyable to watch! That is soo true man!! Djokovic undoubtedly is a great player but federer is something else. He plays effortless and it is beautiful to watch. He has elegance, great hand skills , a perfect and precise serve and forehand and in addition to that also great volley and ball placement skills that no other player ever had!! We must acknowledge one fact . Federer dominated from 2000 to 2010 by defeating and dominating the top 5 players of that time like Pete Sampras or lleyton Hewitt or even Roddick and won against them several times. Just like that djokivic also dominated from 2011 to 2020 and still on by defeating and dominating the top players. So basically both of them have done the same thing just in different decades . I would say both of then are the goats and that choosing a single player as goat us simply nor right. And yeah of course even rafa deserves to be called goat . So my question is why do people want only one goat??? Why not all of them???

He will be back. He said the goal is to play, and he will, as long as he loves playing. ukposts.info/have/v-deo/aqGpm6B-p4Gi0IU.html

I was sad when he lost like he did but then again making the QF of a major after only playing 8 matches this year including making the QF of Roland Garros, I’d say he did darn great here

Roger Federer raised the bar in this sport in every way. He is simply the most elegant sophisticated player to ever play tennis.

Roger Federer will get over this QF Wimbledon loss. The question is: Can the media get over it? 😜😜😜 The media continues to make fools of themselves with their pathetic questions. 🌿

"The goal is to play, of course." What is there to speculate about? Let the man regroup and decide how and where to return. His intention is clear. He is not going anywhere after his underrated Wimbledon return. We just like to be fickle and reactionary. ukposts.info/have/v-deo/aqGpm6B-p4Gi0IU.html

Let's just hope Roger retires so that Djokovic can get more Grand Slams with less competition.

I am always and will be a Roger fan. First he came after a double knee surgery and he made to the quarters. So still I think he can compete and still beat anyone. This loss is just a twist and no need to take this serious. Anyway still want him play for many more years...
