My menus were different than yours, so it was hard to follow some of your directions. Once before, I had tried turning off the thing that shuts you down for not saying "yes I'm still watching". That only worked on the roku channel. But your directions actually worked! Thank you, thank you! Once I realized your hints worked I came back to give you the thumbs up you deserve.

Thank you for helping everyone protect their privacy. The ad banner removal at the end seems to be a problem for a number of people including me. I don’t know if it’s possible to help or if ROKU got wise and made it harder to remove. If you are collecting info on an attempt to find another way of helping people remove it here is what I tried. I am using an old Emerson tv with a ROKU Ultra LT. After getting to the secret menu I changed the Cycyle Home Screen banner ad server to Demo 3 and restarted the Roku by going to system->power-> system restart. It rebooted and the ad was still there. I repeated the same steps alternating from Production, QA-QA3, Staging-Staging4, Demo1-Demo3. Thank you for your advice.

Everything went great, except the ad on the right side is still there. Also, an ad in the bottom left-hand corner for peacock 99 cents for two months. I checked and rebooted twice. It shows scrollable ads as always disabled, but the blasted things won't go away. Thanks for the tips! 🎉

Nice, cheers. Personally I turn Auto-adjust display refresh rate on, on mine. I find it provides much smoother playback with less stuttering, at least on my ancient TV in the lounge. The downside is the glitches you mentioned, it often takes a moment while the TV adjusts to the new input and outputs a black screen for up to a couple of seconds, which can be quite irritating when watching content with ads, as it will happen each time a new one loads. I find the improved playback quality worth it the minor irritation, in my use case.

I'm leaning towards the streaming soundbar I'm trying to cut the cord with cable it's too expensive . What are your thoughts on that one ?

HI Doc - Thanks for the video. I use older ROKU device (4210X). My WiFi connection/strength servicing it is strong. I find myself frequently restarting the device to mitigate various problems. E.g., Sling channel grid content partially disappears or channel rows become confused; Freevee programs do not fully load -- and other such problems - all of which are "fixed" by my restarting the ROKU device. I find myself restarting many times a day, which is a PITA. Is this an example of ROKU planned obsolesce? Could my problem be cache or memory related? If it's time to buy new ROKU devices, can you suggest which of today's model(s) offer memory bang-for-buck and superior cache management? Thanks for your reply.

On the subtitles menu, a tip for you is to have it turned on for replay. If you haven't heard or understood what someone says, rather than have to keep rewatching the same bit of film over and over to get what is being said, subtitles on on replay will show you what they are saying.

Screensaver is actually a good thing as some TVs can get burn in from sitting on a single screen too long. Turning it off is a bad idea. It doesn't take that much for system resources to use.

I couldn't get the last step to work. I not only have the ad on the right, but also one on left. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Now for the question, when I power up the TV samsung 9000 the red light will flicker and need to press home before the TV turns off, on, off, on repeatedly, is there a place to correct this when power up and then have it go automatically to home? thank you!

Great video, though I wasn't able to remove the ads on my home screen (Hisense Roku tv). Not sure why, but "Demo3" didn't remove the ads for me. After cycling through each option (demo1-3, stagging1-3,qa1-3, etc.) and restarting afterwards, the ads still remained. Maybe the option to change it is in another secret option page (As the secret options you mentioned were "secrete option page 2", on mine.), but I was unable to change "Ad banner channel: production" on this option page.

The very last one you did with removing the ad on the home page, worked but didn't work. It removed the ad but left a blank box. I thought it would remove that space all together. Oh I see you had the blank space also....

Roku used to have a setting that was somewhat hidden that would force the Roku to use a lower bit rate. Frankly 1Mbps gives a picture that is quite suitable for me. Unfortunately Roku discarded that feature. My internet has a monthly download limit and once that is hit the speed is reduced to something similar to dial up modem. I have to use satellite internet because there is no wired internet available to my house. I live on an island which is paradise. But the monthly limit can be used up in one evening of watching Roku which is always running at the fastest rate it can get.

Hey Doc. The ad banner on my homepage is still there, even though I double checked the settings and restarted the Roku twice. I even powered the Roku stick, and TV, off and powered them back on, and the ad banner is still there. I’m using a recent Roku 4K streaming stick connected to an LG OLED 65 inch TV. Is there a certain amount of time that has to go by for this change to take effect? Please advise.

The demo 3 does not work for me- tried multiple x- still have large and on right even after reboot. Open to suggestions. Everything else worked great- thanks.

Is there any setting to disable the ad when you pause a video. I like to stop it and look at the cast in a movie or look at a detail I'd like to see. The ad usually is in the way.

Can you please help me? I was having issues with my Roku plus stick not connecting to my wifi. So I watched a video saying to go to the secret menu operation settings and turn off network ping or wireless ping, I don't remember which. That didn't help and now things are even worse. Now the " missing advanced wireless receiver" message is stuck on the screen and can't be removed. I can't get past it to go back to operation system settings to undo what I did. I did factory reset but it didn't restore what I turned off apparently. The missing AWR is still stuck on the screen and there's no way around. PLEASE help me get things back to normal. I just bought a second Roku. They are on tv's in separate rooms about 25 or 30 ft away from each other. I find I'll have to pull the batteries from the Roku remote I'm not using power down the Roku I'm not using and reboot the roku I want to use. Then i'm able to select the roku channels I want to watch on the TV I want to watch. maybe I'm over complicating my solution. Does anyone have any advice on this issue?

I have a question for U.On my Westinghouse Roku TV which isn't mine, but I am using it. I had some buffering when I was watch a flick on PLEX. Down came a window in the upper rt. corner of my screen saying something like if U don't want buffering click here to settle for lesser quality. Well I clicked & now everything not just the flick I was watching looks like a cheap 80ty's film filmed in a low grade camera. Words R blurry & the images R so bad I can't watch anything. It's more like someone who Piriated a movie in a theater & let U watch the new film for free. Horrible quality to say the least. Anyhow if U have any idea as to how I can get the quality back on PLEX I'd appreciate it very much. I can't call PLEX & don't want to do the email trip, etc.. I did see somewhere the QUALITY was automatic. I also saw somewhere it saying that only the film I was watching at the time was effected by the quality downgrade. NOT so. Seems every movie I put on on PLEX is blurry!! I don't understand it at all & I surely don't want to do any factory reset since it is the APP. not the Roku TV issue.. Am I correct Doc.?? Please clue me in if U have any info I don't know about. U seem to B a Roku expert.. I did subscribe to your channel because I believe U will B beneficial over time for me & my Roku TV if the gov't doesn't end the ACP program I am currently getting.. Hope to hear back from U. hi there, I'm researching for my senior parents who are cutting the cord to save costs. Does the remote work the same no matter which app you're in? Do the remote's FF and RW buttons perform the same way in a different app? I noticed with my old normal tv remote, it would behave differently in Prime versus Netflix (fast forwards normally in one app, then goes to the next video in another app, or goes forward one frame at a time etc. with the same button), I wish to have one where the buttons behave the same way for all the apps. Do you know of a streaming hardware/stick that does? thanks
