Russia's OIL & GAS Revenue Fell over 45% in the first three months of 2024 compared with the revenue Russia was earning prior to the invasion of Ukraine. In addition to this huge reduction in income Expenditure is continuing to increase due to the investment in the War, which means that the Russian Economy is now incurring massive LOSSES. In this video I provide more details of the figures and discuss the problems that Russia is now facing.

The reserves are nearly dry. Putin is putting Russia in debt for the first time since the break up of the Soviet Union, I think, but 100% first time since he has been the leader. He also has secret lines of credit from China, and is estimated to have given Russia upwards of 100-200b USD.

Exactly. It is not about profit and loss. That is what companies do. It is about cash inflows versus outflows. All that government spending has to be draining reserves. I doubt the Russian government is posting that.

Time is really not on Russia's side. For the long term, this can not continue and at some point their economy and government will collapse. Other than natural resources and agriculture, Russia makes little to nothing that can be sold abroad. Even their weapons export industry has collapsed.

2:52 Was going to say a good comparison here is like, the wartime economy of Britain during ww2. Like yes on paper, unemployment was virtually nonexistent, productivity was very high. It looks really good on paper, but the actual reality of the economy in those times was not fantastic. It came with a lot of rationing and austerity and a lot of businesses went under. The high investment in the economy was also fuelled by war bonds and spending currency reserves. When these bonds came due it had to be followed up with a heck of a lot of taxes to fund rebuilding everything that got blown up. Economically Britain was in an absolute shambles, even though it won the war. Russia is on that same path, it’s just a matter of how long it can sustain itself. Also worth noting that ukraine was doing this since day 1 of the war. Without the economic assistance of America and the EU it would have folded already, which is why western support in Ukraine is so vital.

Ukraine has the support of the collective west. Russia has the support of North Korea, Iran and to a limited extent China. In a war of attrition there can only be one outcome.

The same thing happened in WWI. France had the support of the allies and despite large amounts of its territory being occupied for most of the war, they won. Germany on the other hand laughed at the "sanctions" or rather the blockade, stating they made 80% of their own goods anyways. What they didn't figure was what happens when all the working age men are dead, wounded or fighting in the trenches and so they didn't meet their normal production. The same patterns are appearing here in the Russo-Ukrainian war and Russia is making the same mistakes Germany did before they ultimately found themselves in the position to be forced to sign the Treaty of Versailles. Economic warfare isn't the most sexy topic, but it can often bring an empire to its knees and often erase whatever gains were made on the actual battlefield.

But that revenue, unlike oil and gas, is coming in from Russia itself. It’s going to have diminished returns over time because it’s gov supplied revenue for items that will be destroyed in months. If it’s self generated revenue how is it in the same category as oil and gas that i# exported. Maybe break it into export rev vs internally gen rev!

My point entirely, increased revenue with zero profit is not the sort of business anyone wants. Arguably it is actually a loss. The Kremlin can't be buying all these weapons at cost otherwise the companies would simply not be able to pay their overheads, so they must be making some kind of profit on them or being subsidised in some other way. Either way it is more draining out of the treasury with nothing going back in, other than possibly tax on the profits these companies are making which is still a smaller percentage than the profit margin they are paying out in the first place. It is the road to bankruptcy for the government even if the individual companies can remain solvent, those cash reserves will only last so long. Using poker parlance, Putin is going all in with the entire future of Russia and its citizens.

Like other followers, it does seem curious to me to be recording government expenditure as “ income “ - particularly when it is drawing down on Reserves which are finite and declining. And it’s a pity that many respected media experts are painting a much more optimistic opinion of the Russian economy. Keep up the good work.

These figures do not reflect the impact of the Ukrainian damage to oil facilities which is estimated to be 12% of the total capacity, so I would expect to see the revenues drop during 2024. The non Oil and Gas revenues are a complete fabrication made up to counter the reduction in Oil and Gas revenue. Of course, revenue from the production of war equipment that will be destroyed in Ukraine is a con. They may as well pile up roubles in red square and burn them. Add the impact of the roubles collapse making imports much more expensive and it’s obvious that the Russian economy is collapsing.

Yes there's growth. That's not the issue. The war is destroying the product of that growth. Both in manpower and equipment. Similar to a junk flood diet. I may be getting more calories than ever but I am not gaining health. Eventually I will have to change my diet or I will suffer from the effects down the road. Not all results are immediate. But they will show their effects in due course.

Sanctions do not target food suppliers, medical supplies or equipment or anything that directly affects the public. Cut all that off and things would get ugly in a hurry. The 2% you mention is from selling off foreign currency and raising the interest rate to.a new 15%. It’s artificial growth and not sustainable, there will be no soft landing. Russia can’t keep raising interest and there is a limit to their foreign currency sell off.

Have they not just fired up the money printing machine? If they claim their reserves are still at pre-invasion levels, yet they are spending a sh1t-ton on the war from reserves, the only way that works is either they are lying(!), or just printing money. Neither bode well for their future.
