The war with Ukraine will end soon and Russia will have lost a lot more than the war it started. It will be isolated for many years. It is just too dangerous to allow it to regain its strength. I think this is what the world has realised about Russia. Its children are being brainwashed at schools into 'Russia is great, the world is against Russia' mentallity and unfortunately this will not be changed for decades - so they will still be a dangerous nation for years to come. We cannot allow them to build up their military again.

I’m surprised and unsure about why Serbia is on the map. I know Serbia and Russia are close BUT Serbia is landlocked and surrounded by the EU which has closed its airspace to Russian planes and I don’t think Serbia even has an airlines?

The other problem they have is that those aircraft are supplied from western leasing companies and they have already broken the leasing maintance agreements so even if the war stopped tomorrow, those aircraft are worthless and can never be re certified due to their dodgy maintance records.

Limited civilian ability to travel by air is an inconvenience, not a "disaster". Freight mostly moves by rail as do passengers. Russia had nil passenger air capacity until well after WWII. That humans are incovenienced is not critical however unhappy they may be. BTW cannibalization only works for certain parts which usually are not consumables used during cannibalization of high value parts. Cannibalization is standard fleet maintenance at modest scale (the USAF cann program buffers Supply and has been a great success for many decades) but those programs benefit from supplies of NEW consumable items. Simple cann'ing gradually reduces fleet capability.
