Let me explain something about Russians. They won't ever protest over low paychecks as long as they can feed themselves with their income. Which is not a question really as it's not difficult for any economy to fulfill basic human needs, let alone the worlds biggest country. What I'm noticing here in Florida is a lot of "panic buying" similar to what happened when a pipeline shut down (even though it didn't affect us directly, people still over consumed and drove prices up) or what happened with toilet paper at the beginning of the pandemic.

Oikl is trading on a global market. A big supplier going dark drives up the prices for everyone, because suddenly there's less oil available. People who need it urgently will have to outbid everyone else to get it, and that raises the market price.

Oil is a worldwide commodity and it's relatively easy to ship. Less oil coming out of Russia means more demand across the rest of the world for U.S. oil, which raises the prices of it. It doesn't help that fuel storage companies in the U.S. usually try to stockpile gasoline at this time of the year in advance of the summer driving season. This year they didn't stockpile so much, because prices were already rapidly rising even before Russia became a problem. The odds are good that gasoline prices are going to get worse before they get better.
