In this video i'm restoring an old coffee grinder.
A few weeks ago I bought an old bench grinder to restore on eBay. The guy who sold it was actually selling more antiques, he had a room filled with old items. I took a look at his other stuff and this unique coffee grinder caught my attention right away. So I ended up buying it for $35. The one thing that really impressed me on this coffee grinder was the metal body, usually they're made of wood. I also liked the colour very much. The restoration itself turned out to be a lot more challenging than I first expected. I'm very happy with the final result of this coffee grinder. I really like how the handle turned out.
I hope you like my work and the video.

These videos of his are addicting! Super relaxing, fun to watch, & you can’t resist watching to the end! I envy people with skills like his! Super talented and kinda cool that he’s helping preserve unique items from history! I love American restoration but I have to admit I’d rather watch his videos over their show cause his are 100% focused on the restoration process which is way more entertaining! Especially the sand blasting the milling parts & polish parts! Something almost zen like watching him bring metals back to life!

This one really hit home for me My great grandmother had a set of kitchen gidgets that she had since she was a teenager, that included not only a coffee grinder, but also a grease strainer, percolator, and a variety of fancy metal hot holders. By the time she reached 90 the years of being stored and mistreated had taken their toll. When she died my mom and I were going to take them and work on restoring them. When we got to her house, our relatives who lived closer had already cleared out the valuables, leaving behind what was left of the set in a trash bin with a dozen bottles of bear. On the bright side we managed to save the pie rack.

On car restoration side of things using brass or if possible copper plate behind the sheet metal and fill weld it is pretty common method. This way molten metal has something to support it, so it wont just drop off and steel wont connect to brass or copper. Also those metals are great heat conductors, so heat is pulled from steel by copper or brass and this way thin sheet metal warping from heat is minimized. Plate being big enough it has enough mass to absorb and spread the heat on the material so it wont even melt.

ive only watched a couple videos by this person so far, but i think my favorite part of these restorations is that they dont replace parts unless absolutely necessary, some restorations end up being a mishmash between two slightly different versions of the same product which can be satisfying too but having the focus on the original object itself and not trying to modernize it, is very beautiful to watch, almost feels like these objects are being faithfully restored for a Museum of Antique Machinery instead of everyday use

Classic over-restauration. It’s a matter of philosophy. The craftsmanship here is exquisite. I personally prefer it to still look it’s age, just with restored functionality and some protective measured, and less polished. And then again... this is really satisfying to watch.

With all due respect to other restorers, but you are light years ahead of them, not only do you have the right tools but you know perfectly how to use them. Furthermore, you do not dwell on the restoration alone but abundantly improve the appearance of the materials. Very good. Sorry for my bad English. Greetings from Italy.
