3 years out but it really depends on how it's done. The hardware would have to be completely open with independently auditable schematics, no centralized server, software/firmware that is entirely open source, etc. Ideally it would also not be constantly connected, unable to receive unsolicited connections, able to have it's power physically cut when you don't want it on, etc. If really ANY of those features are missing it's not viable (unless you have a condition or something where it's a major QoL gain, for instance if you're disabled and you could use it to control a prosthesis or something. In that case you could argue the risk is worth it, but that'd certainly be an argument)
