This is the longest video I've ever posted and naturally, UKposts decided to demonetize it immediately upon release. This has been resolved now, but it nonetheless severely affects performance because YT doesn't promote videos as heavily when they are demonetized, and the first few hours of a release are critical for gaining momentum, which is handicapped when the video is demonetized for those first few hours and being underpromoted. These massive videos are extremely expensive and time-consuming to produce, so if you want to watch even more and support the channel directly, please consider checking out the next part of this video covering how the international coalition eliminated ISIS in Iraq and Syria between 2014 and 2019, which you can view on Nebula here: nebula.tv/videos/reallifelore-modern-conflicts-the-fall-of-isis It's all a part of my Modern Conflict series over there, and there are dozens of other episodes you can watch as well. Oh absolutely. And look what happened last time they tried to do reforms, the second there was any pushback from the religious extremists they undid everything and doubled down on the religious conservatism. I'd bet that these "sweeping reforms" will end up the same way. And frankly they're a drop in the bucket of what's needed. Women can drive now, wow! But reporters can still be disappeared, homosexuality is still punished with the death penalty. It's just not enough. Like you say, they've left this too late. Maybe if they kept going after that mosque siege instead of caving in to the religious fanatics they'd have been able to continue making gradual changes and be in a decent place by now, but they didn't. So they can either do things gradually enough to avoid provoking strong pushback, in which case it won't happen fast enough and they're screwed, or they can force reforms through quickly and face tons of pushback and turmoil, in which case they're screwed.

Great video, although it misses a couple of very important key facts: 1) As alluded to, the US is well capable of producing an excess of oil over and above what they need domestically, they just choose not to for various reasons. 2) When making the deal with the Saudis for their supply of oil, the US added another stipulation to the agreement; that the Saudis use the US dollar for pricing and transacting for oil. This gave the US dollar IMMENSE strength and power globally and was one of the main cornerstones of the USD's global dominance and subsequently US global power. 3) Recent Saudi deals with China to trade oil in Chinese Yuan and agreements with Russia regarding oil supply and pricing have significantly strained the relationship with the US. 4) Despite their best efforts and intentions, the world will not be able to remove their reliance on oil any time soon. Alternative energy generation is still a long way from being good enough to replace oil. While nuclear power generation could likely do the job, this is not a favoured option for many countries.

Several counter points: 1- KSA has at least 700b$ in their national wealth fund invested everywhere in the world. 2- KSA still has the support of the Arab and Muslim world because of its religious importance 3- The world may need less oil as fuel in the future, however, KSA is focusing more and more on using its oil in petrochemical industries 4- The ages of coal and wood are over. However, we are still consuming massive amounts of coal and wood as sources of energy. If you can produce oil cheap enough (KSA can), you will always find customers. 5- KSA still has many other sources of income that they are hardly exploiting now, from religious tourism to massive mines of natural resources to seaports exploiting its great geolocation. *The challenges for KSA are great, but it is far from being doomed.

It's alarming how this video doesn't differentiate how this is more due to politics then simply "islam" or "extreme Islam" whatever that means. Islam is lawfully (by Qur'an) should only be ONE. No sects. Strictly no division. So this is and was not a religious conflict. Similar to Christian v Christian wars. That wasn't from their scripture either it's just politics trying to justify itself with by misusing religion. One brief example is America's involvement in Iraq. He didn't express how that was unlawful. 1 million + Iraqis & US soldiers died bc President Bush lied expressing Iraq used WMDs. In other words America weren't the heroes there, rather the ones who escalated it, keep the conflict between them, let them settle it we obviously don't understand. Oh yea don't forget the part where we took a "tiny bit" of Iraqs resources with us. It was definitely not a war for profit 🤫 Regardless of this channels propaganda, I always love the visuals and the variety of topics

As an Iraqi who was born in Baghdad in 2001 and raised there for 5 years, I am severely disappointed in Iraq for wanting to invade Kuwait and Saudi for oil, rather than developing their own country to become a powerhouse like the United States of America, China, and Russia. As the video stated the Tigris and Euphrates river provided fertile lands for Iraq to set up an agricultural sector that would've fed the people of Iraq, and plenty of oil to get the money to put into developing schools and increasing the quality of life for the people of Iraq. Instead of Iraq being a war-torn country, it could've been a global political influencer. Really sad to see this as an Iraqi.

You need to look at why Saddam invaded Kuwait, he was force to. Like how in world war 2 japan was sanctioned by usa making japan only have 6 months of oil left on reserve. Reason japan colonism on other countries, which american and its allies itself were doing. In case of your country Kuwait under usa guidance were exporting too much oil hurting Iraqi economy. Remember american propoganda, Iraqi soldier killing babies in hospital (lies) Hope ur country recovers.

Thank you for the effort. As a Saudi I have somewhat of a different perspective when it comes to some of the things that you mentioned in the clip. As you’ve explained, it’s a rough neighborhood. I wish that we had Canada and Mexico as our neighbors but unfortunately we don’t. You did an excellent job of explaining the geopolitics of the region and many of the challenges that are faced; in fact, better than most mainstream media and “Middle East” experts. The areas where I might differ the most are mostly around the positioning of the societal and internal dynamics, for example it is inferred that the only reason that the country still exists is because of the discovery of oil and that the people are being “bribed”. While oil has been an extremely important part of the growth and development of the country, it’s important to remember that it was established and existed well before oil was discovered. And I wouldn’t exactly call spending on the healthcare, education (both of which have been the main budget items since the establishment of those sectors) and wellbeing of its citizens bribery! In fact, many European countries spend more on welfare as a percentage of their budget than Saudi does. Additionally, I think that the positioning of the nature of the relationship with the US, while it is an important relationship for both sides for many reasons, as an existential one for Saudi is highly overstated in the clip. Saudi is important to, and has influence on over around 1.8billion people around the word since it houses the two holiest sites for Muslims and it has often leveraged this weight to resolve many issues in the region and beyond, working alongside the US and others, a role which is often overlooked in the mainstream media. Overall, I think that this was a good summary, one of the best that I’ve seen, specially when it comes to geopolitics, (not so much so the cultural aspects around internal dynamics, government and society) so with the exception of the positioning of the issues that I mentioned above and some others that I won’t go over (which I attribute to cultural bias and/or differences, in the existing and available material on Saudi), great effort! PS. I also must very much disagree with the title of the clip, I think that Saudi Arabia has a very bright future ahead of it!

I would like to see Saudi become a solar and wind generation powerhouse. Especially in regards to direct solar distillation and desalination of seawater? ...It's not the way things are usually done ATM, but it would be great if Saudi was able to become the electricity source for countries around it. For a fee, of course. This would require a pan-Arab power grid. ...Which would be spiffy, and probably help the political instability to not be so pernicious. (I'm aware European powers have certainly encouraged fighting at times. I would rather y'all not be divided and conquered, even if that makes my life harder.)

@@abdulazizabdulaziz6304 there's no 'one book' or 'one video', that will educate you on the part of the world which has more history than any other. It's more that you've gotta look at all sides of an issue at the very least before forming an opinion, especially with an area as complex as the Middle East. By playing nice with youtube's demonitization criteria, the maker of this vid is subjecting himself to youtube's views on why the middle east is the way that it is. For instance, when speaking of Al Qaeda, is there a mention of the CIA funding Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan to fight against the Russians in the 1980s? Does it mention Julian Assange and Wikileaks' reporting of Hillary's Clinton's emails that her State Dept was sending money and weapons to the Saudis while knowing that it was going to end up in the hands of al Qaeda? Does it mention that al Qaeda's biggest operations since Afghanistan and 9/11 have been in Iraq and Syria and not Saudi Arabia? If it did it might start to look like al Qaeda was working in the interests of the Saudis and the USA instead of simply being a terrorist organization trying to overthrow the Saudis and install an 'even more repressive' form of Islam. By ignoring these details, it paints a picture of Middle East terrorism where the USA comes off smelling clean, and washes the Saudis clean of some of the worst events to happen there over the last 20-30 years. I don't know the guy behind RealLifeLore, I've never spoken to him. Because of that, I can't tell you what he believes or doesn't believe. What I can say for certain is since youtube is a censored platform, a guy like RealLifeLore here has to take the position he's taken, skipping over lots of opposing opinions and the evidence supporting them if he wants compensation for all his hard work on a video like this. It doesn't mean you're being lied to, but it does mean you can't choose what argument you find more convincing because only one side of the story is being told. tldr; youtube and all big tech censorship sucks. It means everything posted there about geopolitics, modern history and current events needs to be looked at with a very healthy dose of skepticism. P.S. UKposts is still pretty ok for cat videos.

The vision to decarbonize economies is wishful thinking, we aren't doing nearly enough to increase the production of copper, lithium, cobalt and other minerals needed for renewables, which aren't a reliable source of energy anyways, and there hasn't been a sufficient increase in nuclear energy either. Especially with Russia being a pariah state to much of the world now, Saudi Arabian oil will be needed by someone. Maybe not America, but probably Europe, and definitely China, Japan and India.

I was actually going to comment something similar. The idea that we are moving away from oil is a political position, and still an impractical thing to expect in the near future. The electric car revolution is stalling out too. And like you say, all of this supposed progress is really only something being pushed in rich western countries. Everyone else still needs fossil fuels.

@@jordeahgrosko im 20 too! funny but sad. This video was mainly correct but also had clear bias. Apparently the video creator is Iranian so it proves further the vagueness of some details. Digest this info but please for your own sake check with other valid sources, from every side It's alarming how this video doesn't differentiate how this is more due to politics then simply "islam" or "extreme Islam" whatever that means.

What you fail to mention is that the manufacturing of plastics & other products like pesticides consumes more from a barrel of oil than we do for energy. It is no longer energy that we need to fear it is everything else. Our clothing, homes, furniture, everything we seem to touch comes from oil. As for the future of Saudi Arabia, thats on them. We need to think about our own future & stop worrying about others who don’t even like us anyways.
@ronaldturner4849

Not to mention that every living thing on the planet is now contaminated with these petroleum based chemicals that plastic products are made from, including our own bodies. It is suspected that the epidemic of cancers we are seeing is directly linked to this universal contamination.

Its funny because my great-grandfather was one of the few American oil workers that was first there when the Saudi oil was discovered -- infact my mom literally has a physical picture of the first oil explosion (which is more terrifying to me than wondrous) We still have camel whip-blades from the sultan himself at that time (the only thing that ever got passed down, he never shared his wealth with my grandfather, and my mom grew up quite poor because of it, so we aren't rich from this domino effect)

Just look up Afghani girls 1970. The reason that Hippie Girls wearing skirts aren't going to Kabul University anymore is because of the US. The Mujahideen was built by the CIA, the predecessor to the Taliban. This video is American Exceptionalist propaganda. FDR had to tell the royal saudi family that they could keep cutting Saudi girls' clitorises off and stoning them to death for adultery if they report their rapist. NK and Saudis are worth Boycotting, Demerging, and Sanctioning but ya know that inflation thing, so Saudi teen girls will have to wait. I think the circumcised women should form an underground resistance and get the rapist circumcised for rape. Public beheadings and amputations are normal for Saudis so taking off a testicle or two would get an audience.

Tourism though still makes Saudi-Arabia dependent on foreigners and it's something that will likely stop during a war. Iran has a domestic manufacturing and agricultural sector with large domestic consumption and a significant public life. It's far from a perfect country but it is a country that can sustain itself long term if diplomatically isolated.
