Next time your bearings are alittle to tight to seat simply put the bearings in your deep freezer for at least 6hrs and they'll shrink a few thousandths and seat right in for you and once at room temperature they'll be nice and tight. I always engineer my bearing seats a few thousandths smaller to achieve this. End result is a great build with nice tight joints ect.. hope it helps some of you guys! 😊

If you make the base a "C" shape and use a bearing on the top and bottom of the first moving stage, that should correct most of the tilt problems from the base flexing.
@HowToMechatronics
@HowToMechatronics 3 роки тому
Yeah, that's true. The "C" shape is good idea for getting better moving range. Though, that definitely would need to be made out of metal, maybe 2020 aluminum profiles, as a 3D printed one would be too weak for that application.

My first exposure to this robotic design (6 or so years ago) was in the context of a 3d printer. The main benefit being that the reachable area is several times larger than the robot's footprint, meaning that in theory it would be possible to print the entire robot (assuming tech to print motors and wires but for now just the plastic parts) entirely inside its printable area. In fact, one demonstration model I saw was able to print 3 complete sets of parts to build more. Very nearly a Von Neumann machine. The main drawback being that the complex nature of each axis needed to be considered as it's own coordinate set, each of which changed based on changes to each join from the tip to the base making it very difficult to calculate the highly accurate motion needed to print finely detailed parts. In other words, positioning was not calculated using kinematics. I look forward to seeing your experiments with 3d printing and laser cutting with your design. Your solution to finding a position seems elegant and I'm blown away! (but I'm an animator and not an engineer, so don't let my awe go to your head.) I would suggest basing the first joint on a much larger bearing and printing the housing with thicker walls. I'm sure you're far more aware of 3d printing engineering techniques than I am since I dipped my toes in for only a few short years and you are currently involved, so maybe I'll just keep the rest of my comments to myself. Love what you've done here, though!
