I am a sci fi nerd, and missed several of these, thank you. But please, unless you have a voice made for print, lose the AI voice and do it yourself.

I agree, this one is not too bad but they are cropping up everywhere and as such becoming more and more annoying. The only power I have is to always thumbs down and never to subscribe. Yeah, a big "WHATEVER" to that

Sadly, the way the algorithm works is that even if the comments are negative it still recognises the video as popular by the number of comments which earns the uploader more money and pushes the video to others. All we can do is thumbs down and/or report this video for contravening a rule. However, there is no rule for "AI video". This kind of amateur-generated crap is spreading like a pox across youtube and there is nothing we can do about it. As long as they make money for YT then they stay. @@sagefoole

Yeah, all I have control over is me. I just stop them if I hear HAL and go to something else. That's all I can do. Lately it is watching people react to classic movies I love! Oh, respect to the OP who used that phrase "a voice made for print." That was brilliant!!! @@slicedpage

Yes - except Brad Pitt doesn't travel to Venus (as the clip states at 5:49), but first to Mars and then Neptune. I mean, if you're going to do a video about the best of something, it's worth convincing the viewer that you've actually seen the films.

The IMDB ratings (out of 10) Colossal 6.2 Primer 6.7 Safety Not Guaranteed 6.9 Coherence 7.2 Predestination 7.1 Snowpiercer 7.1 About Time 7.8 Ad Astra 6.5 Bill and Ted Face The Music 5.9 Voyage of Time 7.0 Usually, for me, anything below 7.2 or so consistently turns out "meh" when I watch it. There seems to be a skew towards new films on imdb being ranked higher. I used the two ratings on rotten tomatoes. The audience rating is fairly good at point if it’s a fun movie to watch and critic rating for guess cinematic. If they are both 80%+ it should be alright.

A few good ones here, but Snowpiercer? Seriously? The world is freezing, so lets build a train that have to move at all time, to survive? You cant even make trains move during a normal winter!

The train is engineered to run BECAUSE of the ice. But... you have to see it. It is one of my all time favorite films.
@RuneSmedstuen
@RuneSmedstuen 3 місяці тому
@@elizabethhuber434If the world was freezing, the best protection would be underground or mountain bunker. Easier to maintain, more robust to the weahter, and you could protect larger societies connected together. Even easier to grow food. Yet, the world is a -120C (When passing Yukon, Canada), and the train runs perfect? As a take on society in general, it is a somewhat OK moive, but as a science fiction... its basically "the Room" of SciFi.
@elizabethhuber434
@elizabethhuber434 3 місяці тому
@@RuneSmedstuen I have seen several of the comments to this video with similar arguments to the other movies. The issue isnt with the movies themselves but the video should not have included them in this list. If your argument for Snowpiercer is the mechanics of running the train in subzero temps, you are clearly missing the point of the movie. It is notn supposed to be science fiction but more of a fantasy/post-apocalyptic movie like Brazil.

Saw About Time and Ad Astra and felt they were both worthwhile. Voyage of Time may be neat but sounds like something a person would have to visit a museum to have a chance of seeing-an argument to visit museums more often perhaps. I was not impressed with Snow Piercer or rather a specific part of it. Some of it was good but not the end. Spoiler Warning.. Ok. For much of Snow Piercer it is a good movie, battle of minds, leadership, discussing ethics and past events, a lot of good story. The idea is terrible. The train crashes and we are supposed to think good because now a couple of young people can go freely through the supposedly more livable Earth without the oppressive upper class of the train messing things up. But this actually shows the death of humanity. All the supplies on the train are possibly wrecked-the fish tanks fish were raised and taken out of for eating possibly broken, the machine that ground up bugs to make protein bars, and on. All gone. Any humans left probably don't have much training for Arctic survival so without supplies are likely to die soon. And worst of all is what people are supposed to be inspired by.. seeing a polar bear means life on Earth survived so humans can too.. right?? Sure. A problem with this is polar bears see humans as food. If you are a survivor of a train wreck without much fighting ability and you and a wild (maybe even not wild) polar bear are looking at each other (especially without any strong barrier to for you to hide behind) then you are in a very dangerous situation. Rather than liberate humanity and give a young asian woman and a child freedom the heroes of the movie likely made them bear food. Made them bear food and put the rest of humanity in a worse position than they were before.

Nice selection. I've seen about half, and got bored of some others (Colossal, Ad Astra). Unimpressed with Snowpiercer, though I watched to the end. Primer is amazing, a $7,000 movie that is probably the best time travel movie ever made. Predestination was well done but not quite as mind-blowing as the short story, and I loved Sarah Snook in it. I haven't seen Coherence so I might add that to the list. A couple of movies I would recommend: Chronicle -- a surprisingly good story about 3 young men who discover something that gives them powers, and the consequences. Monsters -- a man is paid to rescue a woman from a contamination zone after extraterrestrial life is accidentally released on Earth.

Colossal was garbage. Snowpiercer was....weird, it had some great set pieces and moments, but it literally just took the typical "rich vs poor" struggles of humanity and shoved it on a train. Only reason I bothered watching in the first place was that Chris Evans and John Hurt were in it... Ad Astra was nowhere NEAR a best performance for Brad Pitt, the film was an absolute bore to watch and incredibly forgettable. Each of those 3 took me multiple sittings to actually finish, but opinions being what they are, your mileage may vary.
