Excellent - simple and effective description!! Pretty sure Harry's explanation in this video will help the majority of golfers. I have been a single digit player for years but have seen my handicap creeping up over last couple years due to inconsistent ball striking. After a couple range sessions practicing these straightforward swing fundamentals, I've seen significant improvement in contact and ball compression. I've passed this on to a few friends and they have seen positive results too. Thanks !!!

Your video was a light bulb moment for me. You were able to break down each sequence and joined all the dots from hand grip to takeaway and back swing. The most significant for me was to squat down instead of weight transfer diagonally to my lead foot. This explains why I was getting soreness on my left hip and loses power as I swing through. Can’t wait to get out on the range to practice on the squatting down first before pushing up on the swing through. Thanks heaps from Perth, Western Australia. 👍👍

Hi, thanks for commenting, it's great to read you've enjoyed the video and have found all the aspects of the backswing very useful. Yes, the transfer diagonally can cause loss of power as the 'jumping back' affects the strike location. Have you managed to give this a try at the driving range yet?

Hi Harry, just rediscovered this a few weeks ago after struggling for more than a year with my game. Did start 5 years ago and really made good progress specifically due to my iron game. However, that suddenly all fell apart a year or so ago. I mean big time apart, not your typical up and down everyone has in golf I guess one time or the other. I couldn’t hit straight shots anymore from Pw to the 2. Now, for whatever reason, I reminded myself of what you talk and teach here (which I already did in the past) and I can only say whow, what different that makes. Last few rounds literally saved around 8-10 shots on 9 holes repeatedly! Hope it really will last now and get into muscle memory ;). Since it worked to well I thought I try to also do this for woods and driver. It does work for the fairway woods. However, I am unable to do this with the driver. Literally can‘t find the ball with the big stick with this move. Seems all wrong from position to distance to ball to …you name it. Stil believe it should work though and that I just have to do a real new start from the tee with this move. Any thoughts on this would be very much appreciated….
@harryshawgolf
@harryshawgolf 3 місяці тому
Hi Marc, thanks for your comment, it's fascinating to read what you went through in your game (a big fall-apart moment) and now you've been able to take as many as 8 shots off your round from this video reminding you of what you should be doing in your swing. This is so great to see. in terms of the driver aspect when using this, too many golfers have the tendency to take the club back too quick because it's a longer club, take it bak (still doing the bicep curl) but wider motion from the start of the swing to the top of the backswing. I'd be happy to add this to my video topics to film in Feb if that's something that'll be useful for you? Let me know!
@marc6790
@marc6790 3 місяці тому
@@harryshawgolf Dear Harry, thank you for your insight into the transfer to the woods, specifically to the driver. Yes, it would be great to see a lesson on how to do this properly with the woods. I worked on it like you proposed (slower take away, still the curl) and I think I could identify the problem from a "how should it feel" point of view. At least for me, the secret of this move with the irons is the feel that my trail elbow basically never looses contact to my trailing body side, this avoids the elbow to "get loose", i.e., move back (behind the body, which is an absolut swing killer). With the contact it makes the whole take-away movement super stable without much effort. However, the woods (specifically the driver) seem to suggest to "make a wider swing" for more power. This in turn kind of pushes one towards loosing this elbow-to-body connection quite a bit. Once that is lost too much, at least for me it takes much more timing and swing control overall to bring the elbow back in to this proper body connection for a powerful impact position. At least that is how I could analyze it for me which might help the one or the other fellow golfer here...Swing feels often are hard to communicate, so I hope that makes sense ;)
@harryshawgolf
@harryshawgolf 3 місяці тому
Yes absolutely, i'm all about swing feels and something that feels to me (for example... using the right arm movement from this video) feels like i'm using more of my shoulder to move the club back but for you it'll feel like your lifting the elbow up, but on video it's the same. So i totally get it, i'll look into producing a video specifically designed to setting the trail arm in position and the difference with driver because with it being a bigger club, it will require a long takeaway, but then how do you keep the connection, so this all makes perfect sense for me to implement into another video on this topic. Perhaps in the meantime we could jump on a call to discuss these struggles with the driver and pin point a specific need for your swing to make sure you're ready for the season ahead? You can use the zoom call link to make a booking, would be great to chat with you!

@harryshawgolf
@harryshawgolf 2 місяці тому
Hi Peter, good question. Your arm and club shaft will be on slight different angles at set up so that if you were to draw a vertical line going from your hands it would finish at the golf ball. Take a look at this video: ukposts.info/have/v-deo/gp1mhJyOpG9-qZs.html and see if you find you do this, if so, it might be worth you focusing on this action first before getting the power move I teach from this video.

You say move the hand without the FOREARM twisting, how do i do that? I don't have twisting joins in my wrists. Upper arm can rotate in shoulder socket and forearm can rotate the hand. Just tonclsrify, you meen don't rotate the upper arm only your forearm riiight?

The distinction between pronation, a forearm move, and internal rotation, an upper arm rotation, doesn't seem to get much love. Been pondering this enough lately that I finally broke down and found a 15 second video showing how the two forearm bones interact for that pronation move. Wasn't exactly what I had imagined - *if* I ever actually *had* imagined it. ukposts.info/have/v-deo/bJ17eI2lmrCrp4k.html Looks like that thumb-side bone (radius) is doing most all of the moving. Interestingly, while the forearm can rotate the palm about 180°, the upper arm rotation can add another 90° or so. Also interesting is that the upper arm (internal rotation) can't add that additional rotation as long as the elbow is bent and the forearm is facing the belly or spine, say. When I *don't* keep that elbow in such a position is when I have the big miss left. Been wondering if making this distinction could help clear up what seems to me to be maybe some controversy about what happens with the "release". My current "feel" is that I can pronate all I want (and generate more clubhead speed) as long as I hold off that internal shoulder rotation long enough - a work in progress. 🙂

Hi Robin, thanks for commenting with your question, good question this is, so when you make an attempt to get the palm to face the grip (before gripping the club) as long as your trail elbow continues to point/ face towards the body. Then you're good to go, if you're needing more info on this feel free to reach out via my website. @Robin-Cj

@@harryshawgolf well only way to do that is to rotate the forearm, and keep upper arm in place, there is no rotating part between the hand and forearm. And you said in your video to rotate the hand without rotating the forearm. Only way to do that is to rotate the upper arm from the shoulder socket so the elbow starts to point away from target. And this is clearly not what you ment 😊
