They suppress their crimes rate by simply not punishing in fear of “looking bad” on the world stage. The Japan, like other eastern countries, like to believe serial killers and violent crime is a “western thing.” They don’t investigate very well or charge for things like rape or child abuse. Look at their defamation laws….if you speak out about what someone did to you *even if it’s true* YOU are liable to pay the other person fines AND go to prison for 3 years for making the information public and “hurting” person who hurt you. This could include anything from rape, fraud, domestic abuse, etc. it’s crazy. A country of suppression that prioritizes “looking good” in front of others.

@@basicallyno1722In Japan, even if it is true, if you publicly spread something that damages someone's social reputation without justifiable reason, it may be considered defamation. This seems to be based on the idea that it is not good to expose things that other people don't want to be exposed to and ruin that person's social reputation, even if it is true. However, as an exception, if you speak out about a matter of public interest, if your purpose in speaking out is to promote the public interest, and if it is true, then you cannot be punished for defamation. so If you speak out about a highly public issue, such as sexual assault or corruption by politicians, and if it is true, you will not be punished for defamation. By the way, I think your statement is a bit exaggerated and gives the misunderstanding that if you are accused of defamation, you will be sentenced to three years in prison without any conditions. Indeed, the maximum possible penalty if found guilty of defamation is three years in prison. However, in the case of defamation, the police and lawyers encourage the parties to reach a settlement. Therefore, even if criminal charges are filed for defamation, in many cases the case does not result in arrest or prosecution. Even if the settlement does not go well and you are indicted, most likely you will receive a suspended sentence or a fine. So I can't say for sure, but unless the perpetrator is habitual or extremely malicious, I think it's rare for someone to go to jail for defamation.

Yes. The whole idea of your14 year old son washing someone else's hair in the shower or brushing his hair or caressing his shin should be a non starter and a huge red flag. I know the world is changing. But washing your friends hair in the shower or sticking grandma's '10" shoulder massager' up your bum and busting a load just ain't right! The world should never change that much. Plugging your butt at 11 years old? That's a bridge too far. And that's probably a learned behavior. So keep both eyes on grandma if you care about your 11 year old's sphincter control. "We're going to grandma's Shin!" "Okay mommy. Can you call ahead and see if she bought any more Vaseline yet?"

If we as humans turn away heinous acts by other humans, it leads to further dehumanization of people who aren't horrendous. Just like how chimps can mutilate their comrades and protect chimps from other groups, humans too can be kind and giving as well as destructive and murderous. It's the way it is in all intelligent animals. Elephants can return yearly to grieve at human homes, while simultaneously attacking the corpse of a person they hated during the person's funeral. Humans as animals are no different. If we learn to dehumanize then we will be more likely to dehumanize more and more. It doesn't mean Shinichiro isn't an evil and sadistic person. It just means he is a person.

This is terrifying. His total disregard for how a detailed *murder* book would affect the victims' families says it all. He does not feel remorse. He's not capable of feeling bad about what he's done. He's probably quite pleased he's free. He's older and better trained to cover what he intends to do.

I don’t think “punishment” should be decided by age. It should be decided by: 1. The Crime itself 2. Nature or the crime 3. History of crime 4. Damage to victims 5. Outcomes of crime 6. Dangers of reoffending with same crime One last thing: Loss of life, directly or indirectly, laws that give lenience to reduce sentence should not apply.

Many countries laws about minors are pretty outdated, like I know for Korea and Japan they’re more lenient on minors because when these laws were created (1940ish) kids didn’t always get an education and were illiterate and so they would let them get away with smaller crimes (although this sadly includes murder, murder isn’t small though so it’s absurd) because they felt like it would be an injustice to the kids because they “didn’t know any better”

Japan's current juvenile law was enacted in 1947, not 1960, and promulgated in 1948. At that time, it was a chaotic period after the war, and there was a food shortage. As a result, the number of war orphan boys who commit crimes such as theft and robbery in order to survive has increased. Therefore, the Juvenile Law was established with the purpose of protecting and rehabilitating them. Incidentally, the current juvenile justice system was established under the guidance of the general headquarters (GHQ) and modeled after the juvenile justice system in Chicago, Illinois.

I worked at a daycare one summer. There were a couple kids there who showed signs of a terrible darkness inside, much like the boy in this story. They would torture other kids with no provocation, then cry like they were the victim. When they thought no one was looking, they let the mask fall, showing a frigid, dark, empty-eyed expression. One of these kids threatened me on my last day, saying they would come to my house with a knife and k1ll me. He was 6. When staff told his mother, she broke down crying and acted like we were being mean to her. This kid's brother, when not attacking other kids, would talk to everyone about k1lling himself. He was 10. Also, Kobe was far enough away that we were more cautious, but not really fearing for our lives. I was attending a high school during the day, Monday - Saturday (they still had school every Saturday back then 😭) and (of course) it was a hotly discussed topic at school, and everywhere! I do remember that everyone was in absolute shock and disbelief that it was a kid that did it when he was finally arrested. There were other cases that really scared my host family and others around - the curry incident when the lady poisoned the town curry, the mother who killed her kindergarten daughter's friend, the random poisonings at supermarkets (eg injecting stuff into unopened drinks), etc. People were generally on high alert during that period.

At age 14 I witnessed a kid try to jump a spiked iron fence trying to get to the bus stop on time....his pants caught and he fell back, his neck impaled on the huge spike. He looked like he was perfectly hanging there, like a placed Halloween decoration, but his eyes were all wide & empty and his mouth was gaping open and shut like a fish out of water. It was absolutely horrible. I don't remember how his mother got there or even what she looked like, but I remember her screams and sobs. I don't even know how long I stood watching him. He obviously died pretty quickly. But even that...at least we all knew it was an accident! It wasn't some psycho playing games. Jesus, that must have been awful. She told me to throw it at them and I did, I was confused when they started curling up. When my mom got to me, she asked what I was doing (the old woman had bren watching me in her wheelchair) and I said I was feeding the slugs. My mom was horrified and explained that salt kills slugs. I felt so bad I think I started crying. My mom was asking the woman why she made me do it, I don't know what she said, but I never saw her again. Before we left I got on all fours and sat with the slugs until they stopped moving, and my mom let me. Gosh I can't belive I still remembr that it must have been 10 years ago or more.

For a long time science didn't think crabs felt pain and they were boiling those guys alive. Now we know different. I think that any organism that can experience damage and death probably feels some version of pain because avoiding damage just makes sense evolutionarily. Even if that pain is just ecological distress like what happens with trees, they know something is wrong, they don't like it and they take actions to save themself (slugs moving away from salt), make the discomfort less (like pearls) or to warn other connected organisms (trees producing chemicals to warn other trees about damage or disease).

I can only state what I know about what science has discovered, but science has been disproven time and time again so we never really know do we… However I think people mix up having a nervous system with being able to feel pain. You feel it bc of your system but if you don’t have the genetic ability (brain section/other) you won’t receive the pain impulse in a way that causes you to feel pain. A very rare genetic human version is know as CIPA (congenital insensitivity to pain and anhydrosis). Very dangerous and probably a very difficult condition to live with, but fascinating on a scientific level.

When Stephanie mentioned Seito, first I thought she was referring to the victims, not the killer himself, my heart dropped so fast..Its scary to realize anyone can be evil, and commit horrendous crimes, even at a young age of 14. I can't imagine the mothers and fathers feeling knowing their child was brutally taken away from them by a monster. Not to mention a publishing company was willing to advertise the murders book and make profit from his crimes, that is crazy to me and honestly makes me mad. My heart goes to the victims and their family.

I always listen to these true crime stories with a sort of detached fascination. Its always awful but it never really freaks me out or grosses me out in any sort of visceral way. When you were describing that moment with the 11 year old and his grandma I genuinely had to pause it a few times just because of how sick it was. Its the first time I've ever experienced that.
@ThePlagueDoctor_or_SCP049
@ThePlagueDoctor_or_SCP049 Місяць тому
I won't beat around the bush: - I am fond of anime culture - I had a strong bond with my grandmother (like a second mother because of "bipolar relationship with my mother") - I've never been the best and making friends, and still struggle to this day - I'm fascinated with the human brain or behaviour - Always received result of INFJ, while trying the test alone, at school, and at the hospital I probably shouldn't be, but I almost feel ashamed to have these similarities with a homicidal maniac and sociopath. I stand behind the law, fully aware of the shades of morally acceptable and not, as well as what is within the realm of legality. My take on said INFJ results for "Boys A" (for what he did, this man does not deserve the acknowledging of his name but instead a title reminiscent of his inhumanity, though one might say being inhuman is part of being human, to which I will say in a very Descartes-like manner to be human is to be aware that you are aware; for this part Boy A felt human as he pondered about it. However he took it upon himself to decide to be the Leviathan and be the decision between life and death, something I find to be more reminiscent of a God Complex, or perhaps, then, with this manipulative, premeditated and self-serving aspect, do we find he is a psychopath.) Finally, the INFJ part, might be the result of his twisted pondering and interpretations of reality. As you said, he has a different way of seeing things, and all minds are different, even further apart when you have a mind formed in such a convoluted fashion, thus my personal opinion, and once again it is just my personal judgement, not objective, is that Boy A twisted factors to his own interest and experience and what he interprets as x or y. It is however possible that he is an INFJ just not a "good one" to put things in black and white, or rather a twisted version of an Advocate or Idealist. Perhaps his own metaphor of an INFJ personality result. Be that as it may, I am not a psychologist, psychiatrist, neurologist, nor do I work in the forensics, thus my word is only pure observation. I found the documentary particularly informative, as expected of Rotten Mango, and interesting, while still being gruesome. Being the "mother" of three cats, I was particularly in pain listening to those parts about the animal cruelty and the cats. I obviously wish to avoid such fate at any cost for my own. But this pattern of cruelty is still something common in many killers, so, in a macabre and unfortunate way, it did not surprise me. I wish all who are here and even Rotten Mango, a good rest of your day, afternoon, or night, and hope you stay safe and healthy. - G

Can you cover the siberian shooting case. It's very complex about the siberian boy; Kosta Kecmanovic shooting and killing his friends. There are alternate viewpoints and the case is very messy. I really enjoy how you cover cases and I know that you will make this case way more understandable for me especially since there is so many media coverage on this case on platforms like instagram.

Hi, just to correct. He is from Serbia, not Siberia. This happened almost a year ago, and the trial is still in progress and not open to the public, sadly. This case shook our country to the core, because it was a first school shooting in our history.
