The first time I saw my dog at the shelter I knew she needed out, she just looked defeated and depressed. She had been through multiple homes so even taking her home she didn't get excited. Few days after I got her home she finally opened up and now she's my crazy little love bug. So if you're reading this and don't have a dog yet this is your sign, go get your best friend.

It's all about trust cat's are just the same as dogs when it comes to a new home. They will tread carefully and owners need to accept that thought. For starters you need a peaceful home declutter everything and start afresh. No screaming excitable kids loud TV or music blasting. This is the opportunity to bond. But a lot of people don't get the attention and basically give up. I've had several dogs over the years and they've all came from rescue shelters. They've had their ups and downs but pulled through (Takes Time) but the rewards will flood in 🐩🐕

I do understand that sometimes people get under financial constraints or are basically forced in to housing that doesn't allow pets, or maybe they are a family member or friend of the dog's previous owner who passed. You can't view everyone who surrenders as heartless because you don't know the full story. However, for those who willingly go out of their way to adopt and raise a dog and then later decide it was too hard, I can't accept that. You shouldn't have made the decision to adopt or own a dog then. Period.

Now thats a Lie! Only those who's Sins are Forgiven inherit the Kingdom of God, because: Ecclesiastes 7:20 KJV: For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not. Luke 15:7 - I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. John 3:3 - Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 1:12 - But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Matthew 7:21 - Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Romans 3:23-26 KJV For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

I adopted my baby boy when he was 2 1/2 years old. The staff at that humane society absolutely lit up with joy when they found out that he was going to his forever home with my husband and I. Then staff then explained that he had been surrendered there twice. First time as a pup from Tennessee and the second time when this old lady had abused, (at the time) her adult daughter’s dog and forced her to give him up after she threw a shoe at him and he snapped his teeth at her as a warning. When I found him in that kennel, he looked like his spirit had been beaten down. He was very timid and shy when he came to the kennel door to greet me. He then sniffed my hand and went back to lay on his cot. However, the moment we brought him out for a private meet and greet he was sooo excited that his whole body was wiggling. He immediately grabbed a toy and started playing with everyone in the room. He stole my heart that day and ultimately, saved my life. I’ve struggled a lot with depression and had just been released after being hospitalized for a week. I knew he needed me to love him and he knew that I needed him as a companion to love me in return. Four years later, we are going on our first family vacation together. I’m so excited as it’ll also be his 6th birthday. I love him more than anything in the world and am grateful for each simple, little moment I have with him. Truly, he’s my best friend. Wish I could share a picture here but I guess it’s his story that counts. So blessed to have him as my baby. ❤❤❤

Except that, here, the pets aren’t adopted that day. It’s the next day - "tomorrow". Animals have no concept of tomorrow. It reminds me of when people talk about having to put their pet to sleep, but not wanting to be there. Being with your pet during those last moments is HUGE for them & can lower their fear/anxiety, people don't realize how scared they are in those situations. I've had those bittersweet moments more than I can count & it's always worth it to be there in the end with them, even if it hurts.
@michelcromwell3212 роки тому
Also, when I have to euthanize a pet, I take my other pets with me. I put my deceased pet on the floor at the vet and let my other pets walk around him/her and they just know their friend is gone. Before I started doing that, my live pet at home would wander around looking for their friend, my cats would go from room to room crying for their friend, my dogs seeming depressed, lost. Also, I always go in and hold my pet that is being euthanized, telling them I love them over and over. It rips my heart out, but it's not about me at that time, it's about them. I just don't want them to be scared or alone. I also do the same with my old goats that have died, or had to be euthanized. I leave the deceased goat in the pasture before burying them to let the herd that has grown up together walk around their friend. They sniff at and walk around their friend and seem to realize their friend is dead, and adapt better. The hardest part of rescuing, raising and loving our companion animals, is end of life. I pray for mine and tell them they're going to their forever home, I love them, and will see them again...all the while crying like a baby. 😢

I volunteered at a shelter when I first retired and watching an animal get adopted is the best feeling you’ll ever have. This brought tears to my eyes. This guy is right about watching a dog watch his people walk away. The worst was when an owner died and the family didn’t want the animal. Usually that was the only home the dog or cat had ever had and they had NO idea why they were being left. Seeing that happen made me decide I would adopt senior dogs who had lost their owner. Last year I adopted two miniature dachshunds who were 17 and 18 yrs old. Every time I leave the house they’re sure I’m never coming back and it’s so sad to see that. They’re so excited when I return and I hope soon they will forget that terror of losing their former owner. I say all that to say Adopt from a shelter! And if you can, adopt a senior dog or cat. They still have a lot of love to give.

When I went to a dog shelter to meet what I thought was gonna be my first dog, I was greeted by this massive Unit of a dog (bullmastiff x) just coming back from a walk. After asking about him, he’d been there since he was 4 months old and was now 11, nearly 12 months……..He’d had not a single person interested in him due to his size. So I asked about the dog I had come to see and was told that dog had a list of people wanting to take him, but I was first in line. So I made the decision there and then, that I was taking the big dog with no interest at all. I made the right decision…..He was an amazing friend to me, he stopped a burglar who had broken into my house by pinning him to a chair and whenever I wasn’t feeling well, he’d lay in bed with me and put one of his front legs over me and fall asleep beside me snoring his head off. Sadly he passed away in 2018 from a rare inoperable cancer on his brain stem. He was diagnosed at 2 years old and I was told he’d be gone in less than a year……He passed away 3 weeks before his 9th birthday. I’ve been to a lot of funerals for friends and relatives and I’ve never cried…..When my dog passed, I broke down in the vets office and was a mess for months after. I eventually got another dog, who is absolutely mental……I just wish my big dog was here, as him and my new dog would have been very funny together. My new dog reminds me a lot of my first dog, because they have very similar personalities.

I got my bird companion the same way. He was a conure no one wanted because he was supposedly a biter. He had been there for months and it seemed he was never going to be picked. The way we live and the system we live in feeds off of consumerism, and treating everything and everyone like an expendable item on the shelf. A lot of animals are even smarter than most toddlers (not punching down on kids). It's just that a lot of animals instinctually have their own way of life, so putting them in a man-made house, expecting them to live up to human standards while putting them in that situation is ridiculous. So true;.. a dogs instinct is to loyally serve their family, they are pack animals, and when you get a dog, you introduce them into your pack. If their family doesn’t want them, (they get ousted by the pack) they wonder what they didn’t do that they should have,or what they did wrong (a surrendered dog won’t think that maybe there’s another reason that their family left them)

My dog was found in the desert. She had been dumped and was literally skin and bones. Even when we took her home all her ribs and vertebrae were visible under her coat. She was at the point of going to a foster but we adopted her instead. We’ve had her for 10 years now, she still doesn’t want to get in the car. I think she’s afraid of being dumped again. Once in the car she wants to sit right up on you. That’s a bit difficult as she’s 90 lbs now. Either a Belgian Malinios or a shepherd mix. She’s a adhd dog for sure. Probably whoever dumped her couldn’t handle her enthusiasm for life. She’s living her best life now.

@Cooke125Рік тому
Some people have to give up pet by choice, it’s not like they want to, it could be down to many reasons, the owner is no longer fit enough to look after the animal, the owner has died, or the owner doesn’t have time to care for the animal, people have lives and our lives come first, I have 2 pet dogs that have been in my family for a very long time, I’ve had them since pups and the oldest is 11, I’ve had multiple pet dogs over the years, and have all died living a happy and peaceful life, as a dog owner losing a pet is like losing a human being from your family or a friend
@millerbaiРік тому

Yeah tbh if I worked at a shelter I would probably yell at every family who came in and surrendered their pet 🤷♀️ I just am not the type to give up on my family just because it gets a little hard for me. I get it everyone’s life is different and maybe they don’t have the funds to take care of them anymore but it would still be heartbreaking to watch. It’s always been my dream to one day own a huge house with huge land and provide a home for as many animals as possible. 😢 i rescued a cat recently that showed up at my house one night during hurricane Ian in October… and i found his owner he had been missing from her for a year and a half!!! I found her but the saddest part was finally getting her to respond to me and her not wanting him anymore 😭😭😭 it broke my heart. We already had two rescue cats and recently adopted a puppy so it was hard taking in another animal especially when my other two cats don’t get along with each other 😅but we are making it work because he is such a sweetheart such a wonderful cat and he deserves love and a home. I have been trying to find a family that might want him for months but no one is taking me up on it 😢 he wasn’t fixed either but someone did help me and donated some money to get him fixed so that’s what we’re going to do we have an appointment set up for tomorrow morning to finally get him fixed and he might have more offers for homes and if not then he at least will always have a home here❤❤

@user893892 місяці тому
When we adopted my grandma's dog and went to pick her up, the people in the shelter put a little red bow around her neck. I suppose that was their way of celebrating an animal finally being adopted and going home - putting a little bow on them as they wait for their family. There was a cat too, with another bow. I suppose that was a good day in that shelter. :) This was a very long time ago. I remember the first time we took her to a walk, she was scared to leave the yard. She probably already started to bond with us in those few hours we spent together, liked the place, and was scared that we'd take her back and abandon her. She enjoyed the walk, but the biggest enjoyment for her was going back inside the yard. The 2nd time she was still nervous, but not nearly as scared and hesitant. Eventually she learned that we'll always go HOME after we go out for a walk, and she became a super big fan of it, making a little happy dance every time she saw us walking towards the leash. :) I hope the cat at the shelter found a forever home, too. I know our dog did. After a decade of being with us, she passed away from old age in her sleep. It wasn't unexpected or anything. We could already see her getting more and more tired, and slowing down in the months and weeks leading up to it. Those 11 years of playing soccer, running around and going on walks finally tired her little body out, but she at least got to enjoy every moment of her remaining life. Her mood was great up until the end, though. Even though she got tired extremely fast, she still wanted to play every time. It's always sad to bury a friend but it also fills me with a sort of joy that she died like this, because I know that we really were her forever home. From the moment they put the bow on her neck to the moment she closed her eyes for the last time, she finally had a home and a family of her own that loved her. :)

heart warming. saddest part is when they see their owners leaving surrendering them. but the happy part is, they get to go to a better family. thanks for saving all these very precious souls.

The families/individuals that surrendered/abandoned/abused pets go to, are not necessarily “better” families/individuals imho! It’s too easy to stigmatize/demonize anyone who surrenders or abandons/abuses a pet. The same with children! I agree that for the animal or child, the experience is potentially harmful, hurtful, sometimes permanently damaging. And I think it is absolutely unequivocally unacceptable. But stigmatizing/demonizing has not yet helped to prevent this process. We live in a culture that does not think or act *preventively*! That’s what needs to change. And changing one’s own attitude, one’s own community, culture, is much harder work than simply judging, punishing, and rejecting someone who is an ongoing reflection of the culture.

Surrenders aren't always from bad owners. Sometimes life circumstances simply don't allow for them to keep the dog. It's just as hard on the people surrendering the dog many times.
@mothyhtx2 роки тому
@@Rowgue51 yeah I'd rather die on the streets with my dog , give it all my food before my self, then give it up. Or pay extra to keep it where I need. But I plan to open a animal shelter in my older years. Just different people. I'm like joe :)

You have to treat dogs as they are your family.You wouldn't surrender your children because your circumstances change.

In 2006 I went to Fayette Friends of Animals and adopted a border collie mix named Lola! She was such a joy to me! She got sick in2017 and had to be put down by her vet! I was with her kissing her forehead and told her I loved her and we will meet again!❤ RIP LOLA!

Thank you for saving their life. Please don't abandon your loved pets because they cannot survive without your love and support. One day my dog escaped from my house she doesn't know anything about outside world, since she were given to us when she was a puppy. And that night she straightly ran to the road, and I was really worry about her because she trapped in the road with vehicles. I ran to the road with my mom and finally one of my neighbour helped us to catch her if that man didn't help my baby girl would have gotten killed by vehicles. And that's why I always protect her because they don't know how to survive without our help. There are so many animals including dogs suffer, this makes me so sad 😢protect them don't abandon them

When my dog first came into the house, she spent at least 20 minutes like crazy climbing on each of us and licking. They understand and know more than we think.

@@Joshuadalewillis well yes but in most shelters that can be waived or reduced .. they also need to make sure the future owner can afford a dog, and is serious about the adoption and won’t just return the poor soul days later .. and it is a tiny contribution to the costs of keeping these animals

I'm crying. I had a lovely German Shepherd for 14 years. And I remember the look on his face every time I stepped out. He always wanted to go with me. And when I returned, I always found him waiting outside. I used to see him wagging his tail from a 100-metre distance and he would be all excited and shower me with kisses once I approached him. We had to put him to rest on the vet's suggestion. He was with me from 2003 to 2017. And will remain in my memories until I die.

lost 2 of my dogs (1993-2007, 2002-2012) It took me years to recover and be ready for another dog but I now have a GSD-Malinois cross - is 2 y.o (almost) acts the same way you described. when i park my car he is already in the balcony with his head popping above the wall, crying with little barks of excitement, uncontrollable spins and licks... he has black and gold fur with distinct golden eyebrows which grant him "SUPER PUPPY EYES" making it almost impossible to get fake-angry at him if he does something stupid. i know he will too pass one day - but while i care for him, i know he is happy and i am happy.
