Simon shares about how our sense of fulfillment is directly tied to how generous we are towards others.
"You can be happy because you did things at work, you can be proud because you did things at work, you can be excited because you had a big success at work, but you know how you feel fulfilled at work?
When you do something for someone else.
It's the only way we get that feeling."
"Generosity is doing something for someone else and expecting NOTHING in return. At. no. point. ever."
"Do you know why the statistics say that over 90% of people don't feel fulfilled by the work they do? It's not because of the job, it's not because of the pay, it's not because of the benefits, it's cause we don't help each other anymore."
"I don't care how good your product is, I don't care how good your marketing is, I don't care how good your design is, if you don't understand people, you don't understand business."

After watching this yesterday, my brother was combing his extremely tangled hair. I offered to help a couple of times but he was resistant. So I remembered this video and told him if it hurts, I'll stop immediately. He gave me the comb. Why? Because I addressed his issue, I made it about him. Thank you for this. It is clearly useable in any given situation.

It is true, this whole day all I have in my head is about how to make me be better, how I can be fixed... A lot of the times, the problem is because I only think about me. Simon's speeches always lifts me up. 😁

He's brilliant. And what I love about him is that he actually cares. Yeah, he takes a step back and out and analyzes in a scientific manner, but the root of what he's doing is all about what's good, what works, what's best for people.

I love what was said in this video. I would add that we need to differentiate between Sustainable Fulfillment and Short Term Fulfillment. What might feel good in the moment, may not feel good long term.

Hard to disagree with anything he says here, but I would add that in addition to doing things for others, remember that you are a person too and we need to do for ourselves as well. I see so many people doing one or the other. Fulfillment comes when you do for all including yourself.

How do we help people if nobody accepts help? Everybody is "independent." How are we supposed to help anyone? Sure, the talk is motivational, though a major component of society is left unspoken of: we live in an individualistic society.

sry but I dnt agree with u about the self-help thing.....I think every good self-help book and every self-help speaker has said this that v all should give .... and that would give the best feeling to us.... every such book talks of giving without any expectation...although it is a very tough job to do.... but u also have to limit giving so that u don't sabotage urself in this generosity.... :)

You got to help yourself before you can help others. That is the first step on the path to fulfillment. Simon Sinek helped himself to get the insights he needed to help others. If you do not have those insights you wont know how to help others properly. So I both agree and disagree with him.
@sanoichiro

But at what point have you arrived to the point that you can help others. How many times do we pass the homeless person and think "If I just had a bit more to spare, I'd spare some." Two years later, we own a house, we have received a promotion and several pay increases. We pass him and still think "If I had a bit more to give...." You don't have to stop helping yourself to just take a few minutes to help others.
@headlinee11
@headlinee11 7 років тому
sanoichiro well first of all. Why are selfhelp books so popular? Cuz people are so god damn bad at helping themselfs. So, if people dont know how to help themselfs how can they know how to help another person? Is giving money to that homeless person really helping the person straighten out his life or continue on a path of destruction? Maybe maybe not.
@sanoichiro
@sanoichiro 7 років тому
I don't disagree. My point is that we will never be 100% whole, complete, successful, or happy. I'm not suggesting that we forget to take care of ourselves, or our personal success or gains. Helping others takes moments, minutes, or at the max, a couple of hours. What we gain from it through increased confidence and being surrounded by smarter, more productive people is immense. :)
@samueldette6401
@samueldette6401 7 років тому
The thing with 100% ist true, cause "perfect / complete / etc" doesn't exist in life ;) Also Simon doesn't say "never ask for help" and "spend your whole time on other people problems". I really admire this guy cause he dares saying what no one wants to hear cause we're all so afraid of giving without getting (wich is very close to loving!) because we have learned from our parents and society "Help yourself cause no one else will!". Basically we have no trust in live and are driven by or deepest fear: To be left behind by our "tribe" and die!

I agree except on one point. When he says Mother Nature, replace that with God namely Jesus Christ and you'll have the full truth and that will set you free. John 3:16-18.

What is the difference in enjoyment and fulfillment. Our jobs, hobbies, our passions are for our enjoyment, but not our fulfillment. Our fulfillment only comes with a personal relationship with Jesus. The moment God's gifts become your focus and you are trying to get fulfillment for that...that day you are empty. God's blessing don't fulfill you. Gods blessing are for your enjoyment. Only Christ himself fulfills you.
