I take a look at a neat starter kit provided by Elegoo; the Super Starter Kit. I strongly recommend this kit if you don't want to go thru the bother or the wait in getting your parts from China. The documentation is fantastic as well!.

This kit is great. It got me started with Arduino and electronics and I'm hooked now. I've built dozens of projects that now include things like the ESP32 running web based configuration, etc. But it all started with the Elegoo kit. I only completed about 1/3 of the projects that come with the kit before I branched off and started building my own. But it was a great introduction and reference. I've used most of the parts for other things by now so nothing really goes to waste as you evolve beyond the original projects. Nice job on the review, there was even stuff in there I hadn't originally payed attention to. Thanks.

I used Arduinos in High School and College and always thought they were so cool but never really dove into it like I wished I had. Now just about every non-woodworking project video I watch has an Arduino involved somewhere so I figured it was time to dive back in.

If they had this in the 1970's I would be limited on what projects I could make with it out of the box, but now with the internet, there is endless content on Ardunios and basic electronics as well.

I use these kits in the Summer STEM class I teach. If you look on the box cover, you can see that the small breadboard can be stuck onto the "Shield" expansion board. You can't use the pads and traces under it, but you can easily prototype your circuits on the breadboard when attached (it has a sticky tape pad under it). You only get one shot to stick it down so use the photo as a guide. The reset pin on the Shield is just a pad so I solder a female header pin to that pad to allow access to the Reset signal. Make sure you don't stick down the breadboard over the reset pad. I am going to post a short video on the best place to stick down the breadboard. I highly recommend this kit. The one from Arduino is very good too, that one has a bit better documentation but fewer components for about the same price.

I own the big brother of this kit, "The Most Complete Starter Kit". (That's what it says on the box, you might find it online as the Ultimate Starter Kit) It has even more goodies, for instance an RTC module, , rotary encoder, PIR sensor, RFID module, membrane keyboard, 9V 1A adapter. But indeed, the real value lies in the excellent documentation and sample code. A lot of value for around fifty euros.

I had a little different experience with their biggest uno R3 kit. 1. Arduino board was stone cold dead. No go with either power source. Not a problem for me, just a challenge. Long story short, a v-regulator on the input side was a block of sand, so I replaced it with something similar from the parts box. I hate soldering at this level or smaller. Cranked it up and checked some voltages, and it worked. Uploaded Blink to it, and it worked. 2. The A-B cable would not fit into the Arduino, even with unreasonable pressure. However, a quality cable worked just fine. 3. The jumper wires can be a little fiddly, with occasional intermittent opens. Other parts are of reasonable Chinese quality, actually pretty good. If everything worked this would be a great kit. Amazon return policy is very good, and you can return this for a good one. As an aside, the only DOA Arduino I've seen other than this was an Italian (real) Arduino. Several companies make these kits, and they are GREAT STEM learning resources at very reasonable prices.

We have three Elegoo Uno R3 and recently discovered there are two issue with the part of the circuit that detects how the board is powered. The reference design uses a potential divider and comparator to detect the presence of Vin on the barrel connector. The output of the comparator controls a FET that turns off power from the USB port (and blocks power from flowing back up the USB cable?). The first issue with the Elegoo R3 is that the potential divider resistor RN1B isnt correctly grounded on the PCB layout. The GND plane stops short of Pin 7 on the resistor pack RN1. The second problem is that the comparator used on the Elegoo appears not be a rail-to-rail type, so the output does not swing high enough (3.3V instead of 5V) to ever switch off the FET. I havent yer considered the implication of these two issues. If you use an original Arduino this circuit appears to work correctly and if you have a steady hand it is possible to solder a wire from a via on the output of the compatator to an I/O pin so that your code can tell how the Arduino is being powered, eg battery or USB.

Noticed the same thing. The documentation in this video looks more professional/colorful & is actually more inclusive than what is provided to us now. I did a comparison of Lesson 4 RGB LED between the most current documentation with what appears in this video. I found that they stripped out alot of the background info & supplemental info on arduinos, coding tips & how components work leaving us with just the tutorial steps on how to setup each circuit.

Do you guys have any recommendations for an entry level multimeter? The market is insane!!! I have a cheap "Ideal 61-310" that came from Lowes years ago, but I really need an auto adjusting meter.
@JohnBailey39
@JohnBailey39 3 роки тому
@@TMRu22311 Lucky for you, despite all the choices, most of them are good buys. All will be able to measure within specifications. Look in the $20-30 range for good enough for basic hobby stuff. Low current ranges, low resistance, capacitance, temprature, frequency and duty cycle. A bar scale is nice, but not essential. Especially at the lower end. This will not be your one and only meter, but by the time you are ready to get another, you will have more idea of what you want. Avoid gimmicky things like transistor testers built in. Aneng, Owon, Kaiweets.. All good. Later, you can spend more and get the features you will then know you want.
