I get the impression that the designers were young, and have no idea of how a real industrial robot arm works. As a result they built a plastic toy that uses none of the engineering principles that make an industrial robot strong, accurate, repeatable, and useful. A properly engineered metal robot arm that size, with (say) +/- 0.1mm repeatability would be a really useful product, for which £5K to £10K would be a reasonable price range.

@@eduardoanonimo3031 1400 USD is msrp, not the actual cost of hardware and assembly. Total cost of this robot, especially when they use high quantity (1.000-100.000) injection molded parts would be around 200-250 i guess.

The thing is, if it is the same price, the quality would be the same. Precision comes from quality motors, bearings, transmission and all other mechanical parts. BTW, there are good open-siurce printed 3d designs, but they are more expensive. There also are designs based on rc servos, which are basically toys.

a little bit too expensive for the materials they put in . it's a little bit weird that they have different plastic parts ( different sizes for arms joins ) . It would make more sense to have segment 2 and 3 identical and 1 and 4 same . Cutting down production costs :) . I wonder how the servos are attached and what bearing they uses. What kind of servos are those ?

Robotics teacher here 👋 I have both this MyCobot Pi and MyCobot Core + accessories (paid myself) and actually suggested to Elephant Robotics to send it to you. Good that they did. ‼️ But note that the code running on the M5Stack ATOM (in the head) is NOT OPEN SOURCE, this wonky python module is the only way to send commands. MyCobot is supposed to be for robot education but it is not possible to run ROS2, Moevit or anything else you would want to use for robots education. Since you can’t write your own interface for the Atom interface, you can also not teach robotics protocols for which there needs to be a proper OPC QA / MQTT interface. had my fair share of trouble with elephant robotics
@dinoscheidt
@dinoscheidt 2 роки тому
Had my fair share of trouble with elephant robotics - the raspberry PI comes completely in Chinese incl. the test program, most programs not working - the documentation is incomplete / out of date - claiming everywhere its an open source robot arm for makers and educators but they aren’t. I wanted to fix the atom interface and therefore the code and they replied for “company secrets reasons” lol they wont do that. They likely don’t want to see how some juniors jammed some code together. Which explains why you have trouble with the python code. - The first robot they send me was 3d printed, still charged full price. - This company loves false advertisement. From load, to speed, to repeatability to components used and marketing with open source while its absolutely not. So buyers beware. If you want to see more about the issues, go into the official mycobot facebook group and scroll through. It’s a company that sells and forgets hardware without proper software skills… 💸

I think that is changed; I've seen that stability has improved. On the site they claim ROS2 and moveit. Also, they have an industrial type of application Roboflow. I am also a teacher and I wanted to use those for education. What would you recommend using for education on a budget?
@JeremyDWilliamsOfficial
@JeremyDWilliamsOfficial 4 місяці тому
Hey! I know your comment is from two years ago, but I would love to know what you would want in an educational robot? What would be the 'must have' features, and the nice to have features? How many students to robot would be the best ratio? And what would the budget look like? Cheers :)

That might be worth a followup video ... when you review a commercial product, does it get worse after the first few hours/1000 moves/months of calendar time, etc? Not so important if it is just for entertainment, and not worth delaying the reviews ... but worth doing a followup later. (Also worth saying whether those additional hours were just to test endurance, or because you found it worth using for something.)
