The slime on the wood is actually not harmfull to fish/shrimps. You just need to boil it again and for a longer period of time! You should look into worms, they might be small shrimps predators. Keep up the good work! Amazing video!

that plant you are growing is Anarachis and will grow very quickly under good conditions. Also like a hydra, it will grow branching stems from where it has been trimmed. I'd be worried that a sealed tank might have it overgrow out of control! Still very beautiful little tank.

I love what you accomplished. The tank is beautiful. Would like to offer a couple tips. The Daphnia are not the thing you need to be concerned about. The larvae of the Cyclops are parasitic to fish. I managed several tropical fish stores and warehouses/fish-rooms over a 30+ year career, and one of the hardest parasites to fight were Cyclops. They were common hitchhikers on shipments of live plants. I have never seen Cyclops infest shrimp, so if you don't plan on adding any fish you should be fine. If you get overwhelmed by daphnia a few small tetras or rasboras will eat them all very quickly, just be aware those fish will probably be lost to the Cyclops larvae. Keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing this.

He didn't cycle the tank for long enough so ammonia spikes will happen frequently. And no, heaters in aquariums aren't used to make the cycling process go faster. Its used to keep the aquariums at a good temperature for the shrimp so they won't die. He didn't even use any pH test or ammonia tests. Please, please do your research. Also if these fish are getting pregnant, that means more shrimp. So your tank will get overcrowded and your fish will get stressed. Hope this advice helps

Neocaridina shrimp are extremely hardy. I have a tiny jar filled with water and terrestrial moss. I left the jar in a north facing window and the shrimp survived in that jar throughout the winter despite having no heater. Daphnia are also very unlikely to harm your ecosystem. They enrich it by filtering algae from the water and therefore help prevent the water from turning a pea soup colour. You may want to be careful with Canadian pondweed (the plant that grows very fast). It's a great oxygenator, however in my ecosphere's where it's present I needed animals to graze it to prevent it taking over completely. I used a species of snail called Great Pond Snail (Lymnaea stagnalis ). This species will graze on the plants older growth and encourage newer growth as a result. The feces from the snails helps feed the other detritivores such as bacteria which the shrimp, daphnia and other smaller inverts will then eat. Having plants without a herbivore to graze them isn't going to create a true long lasting and balanced ecosystem. You have a lot of detritivores, however nothing else. I'd encourage you to look back into snails, they will only breed for as long as there is food available. When the habitat reaches it's carry capacity of snails they will cause a decline in plants. The plants will then reduce and the snails will begin to starve or go through a period of not breeding. Eventually the snails will mostly all die off, allowing further plant growth and as a result the snail population will rise again. It's important to note that the largest Great Pond Snail adults will not only graze on plants, but will readily consume smaller snails of their own species, therefore creating some form of predation on their own kind for as long as their is healthy adults. Ecosystems often rely heavily on population fluctuations of producers, herbivores and predators.
