"I don't... think... I'm prideful...?"
Great! If you examine your actions and intentions and you don't detect any obvious pride, that's a wonderful thing. But as each one of us grows deeper in relationship with Jesus, he will reveal ever more nuanced ways that pride can sneak its way into our lives, giving us opportunities to reveal those places to Jesus and letting him perfect us.
Today, Fr. Mike uncovers some of those sneaky areas of our life where pride can burrow itself and cause major problems.

Everyone pray for Bishop Barron, Fr. Schmitz, Matt Fradd, and all the other Catholics on the Internet who are attracting people to the Church. Because they are doing so much to build up God’s kingdom, they are targets for spiritual attack, not to mention the simple fact that they are under a lot of pressure to represent the Church AND everybody wants a piece of them. If you’re reading this, please consider praying to St. Michael and Our Lady to keep them safe and sound. I’m so grateful for their work.

(And for any non-Catholics who wonder why we pray to anyone other than the Lord, which I get since I used to be Protestant, I just mean let’s appeal to St. Michael and Mary for help since we know they are right there at the throne of Grace.)

I used to be so obsessed with my appearance. I exercised alot, ate very little, would not be seen without piles of makeup on, wore heels in all weather, even to the doctors, and always had stylish, expensive clothing on, perfect salon hair. Then I moved out of my rich parent's house. And I learned. I now wear joggers and tshirts, and walmart everything. Even their tennis shoes. Moving out was Gods plan for me to get over my pride, and live humbly. And I'm greatful. That home was a broken home. I now have peace in my studio apartment. It's quiet, and I have my kitty cat, Skittles. I live within my means, and still have a good amount of food, furniture, and a clean home. Thanks, God.

IDK- just a sinner's observation, but it would appear by your own descriptions, that you gave up one form of pride for another. I too think (believe) that I don't display the "pride" of acting as if I'm above others; yet at the same time, I do despise those who parade their own proclivities in front of me or our children. I'm talking about the trans & gender change people and everyone who insists on shoving their own "lifestyle choices" in my face (i.e., predominantly liberal progressives). Fr. Mike once suggested we "walk with them", inferring (to me) that we should love them as a child of God, and let God decide whether they earned the reward of Heaven.

Where do you hear pride in the new way of living? I heard a grateful heart, someone who is embracing simplicity. I understand that it’s possible to become prideful about ascetism, but I didn’t get that. I mean, Skittles the cat! Come on!

I struggle with ambition, especially as a perfectionist. I like to have a sense of control and tend to take matters into my own hands because I think my way is best. I can get very frustrated when things don't go my way, and in the past I never even asked whether my plans were in alignment with God's plan. The areas in my life where I've grown the most have been where God's timing and plans were not my own and I had to truly surrender to what He wanted for me. Even now, it can still be difficult to get out of the driver's seat but I know God's plans are ultimately better than what I have in mind.

Even with all the problems in the Church and the division everywhere, I don't regret my decision. One of the greatest lessons I've learned in my almost 20 years of being Catholic is not to worry about how you feel on any given day. God is pleased when we pray and do right even when we don't feel like it. It's very powerful and it helps us to grow closer to him. I will pray for you!

Praying the Litany of Humility and meditating on each line is really helpful for facing your pride directly. With how pride is usually discussed, a person with depression or low self esteem might think pride isn’t an issue for them. But the litany of humility will be a struggle to pray, revealing where your pride lies.

No wonder the saints repeated that the greatest virtue is humility, humility and humility.

I used to tell people about it and I had noticed that most were not happy with my achievements, they were jealous and tried to bring me down. Therefore I have become more careful, I do not share things about my personal life with anyone. On time Word🙏❤️ The "Sneaky Way" is PRECISELY how I have been confronted over the past couple years with personal sin or others sin. Serious deception, yet I trust God permitted my lessons as He did for my sanctification. Today even being confronted with pride in HOW I approached a social issue I don't agree with. I needed to dig deeper and remember the "human-ness" we all face and that for which Jesus died FOR! I am stumbling through the balancing act of standing firmly in conviction of God's Authority, yet discerning the deception of pride in approaching the sin of others. My hope is I can do so, so other's may experience God's Grace....

Thank you, Father Mike! I love your videos! I play them for my family A LOT. 😆 It was funny at the end of this video when you said, "...drill these things into my head..." because I was actually drilling a hole into my living room wall, so I can reposition our TV to make space for the massive gigantic Christmas tree that is now in our living room! 🤣 I took it as a sign from above & figured I best keep listening while I get my jingle on! 🤩 I am SO incredibly thankful to have this beautiful tree & my precious children & beloved family to share it with, etc. PLEASE pray for my brother's family. His wife recently went 100% blackout blind while having a tumor removed from her brain. They have 4 young children -- 2 sets of TWINS. The last time she looked upon her babies faces was when they were only ONE year old. It breaks my heart to know that she will likely never look upon the faces of her children again. 😥 This is especially sad for her because her first husband died in an unfortunate accident about 5 years ago when her oldest 2 children were only 3 years old. She & my brother grew up together & rekindled their friendship after the death of her husband & eventually joined their lives & added 2 more beautiful children to the family. My brother left his job to be a full time Dad & caretaker to his wife when she lost her sight a year ago. I am proud of him for having learned to play so many different roles & for each member of their precious family in different ways. It amazes me to witness how his wife is learning to "see" the world in a different way, although not without much difficulty. Now that their income potential is so limited due to them both being out of work, and the cost of living being SO high, they have made the tough decision to move across the country where they can provide a better quality life to their children with the income they have. My brother has spent his entire life building relationships in our local area. He knows every nook & cranny of the woods from years hunting, riding 3 wheelers, etc. Our home town had a fundraiser for them last Oct & there was an outpouring of support from the community. My brother & I have always been SO close & I will miss him. I know how hard it is to raise children with limited means & with little to no support system. I worry that there will be no one they know & trust around them at their new home. They wanted me, my husband & children to move with them. After much careful thought & prayer, it broke my heart to say no; but it moves me to tears to think that they included us in their dream! I know we are adults, but he will always be my baby brother & I want to watch his children grow; but I have young adult children who have just begun to go out into the world on their own & I need to stick around to love & support them as they work towards establishing their independence. There are other reasons as to why we can't move across the country with my brother's family right now, but so much of my heart will grow with them! Please pray for them & for all those assisting them through this exciting transition & new phase of their lives. Thank You. 😊 May God bless you & keep you always! Peace be with you all.

Fr.Schmitz, I have been following you and your colleague’s for several years now. You are extremely inspiring and it is crystal clear, the Lord our Savior is using you to reach the masses, and that you love Jesus! PTL! I was raised in a Southern Baptist church, I accepted Jesus as my savior at age 6 and was changed forever! Over the years, I have attended probably every, “denomination” you can imagine, not to mention the, “non-denominations!” I always wanted to know about the Roman Catholic Church, but realized, all of the information I was receiving was coming from people who were not Roman Catholics, and had never even attend a Roman Catholic Mass. So, I decided to find out myself. I exclusively attended Roman Catholic Churches and the Mass for a little over five years. During this time, I spoke, prodded, investigated, bothered, fellowshipped, and did life with so many Catholic’s, Laymen, Priests, Bishops and even a Cardinal! I thoroughly enjoyed this time in my life and immensely appreciated this journey! Overwhelmingly, this was a positive experience! During this time, I attended all of the catechism’s for new adult believer’s and was, for the most part elated to learn these teachings. (Ironically or not, most of which mirrored my own upbringing!) At the end of this experience, for lack of a better term (as I certainly do not feel like I have ended anything,) I remain perplexed by a handful of the Roman Catholic theologies. There are just a few things I cannot, no matter what I have done, thus far at least, can find are in line with any scripture. More accurately, I find them diametrically opposed to all scripture I know. I honestly seek your input and insight! I am NOT looking to argue, debate, bait or, as my daughter has taught me, “to catfish” you in any way! I highly respect you and support the Ascension Presents ministries! I simply would love to hear your, “speech in love” to these issues! In any event, thank you for your work and ministry!!! God bless you Mike! -clarkleach@att.net-

God intended scripture to be clear to read, when Jesus spoke, He spoke in simple parables and in an easy way to understand. He has given us, His children, the Holy Spirit so that we could understand the depths of the love of Christ and mysteries of His word (what others ears and eyes aren’t open to). What is clear in Scripture is to valued more highly than any doctrine or teaching of man. When we put the teachings of man above Scripture, we worship man and idolize him. Seek wise counsel, and when wise counsel contradicts the word, seek different Christian counsel, because they aren’t wise as they think they are. The Holy Spirit is with us to be our helper, He will reveal to us the meanings of scripture, and if we ask the Father, or seek,He will put people in our lives to help guide us. I pray that you would cling onto Jesus more than any denomination, for He will never leave us nor forsake us, and He makes a home within our hearts.

You know Father I love how holy you are and how intelligent you are the best thing about you is how human you are. the mistakes of the stumbles along the way reminds us that you to struggle as we do and there’s really something comforting about that. I’m in the middle of the Bible in the year and you were talking about the area I am in not boasting day 211 and you have talked about how it feels and how it relates to where we are now in the story that maybe we’ve just come through the worst week of our lives. And you wouldn’t be far from the truth on that one. you really don’t know how special you really are. When I read that in 2024, both of your series are coming to radio 790 new episodes and 19 million people who you could possibly touch every day the world is not in a good place right now. I don’t think I’m talking out of turn on that. The upcoming year will give people who need something in their heart sit in their minds and didn’t know about these things as I didn’t well for 50 years. I would hope that the fact that I don’t show up in church the way I dressed during the week makes me the word I want look better than I am. I have always gone under the conclusion that if I am going to visit the Lord he certainly worth more than a pair of jeans and a T-shirt to me, I don’t mind putting on a dress I don’t mind putting on a little bit of make up which I generally don’t do during the week I don’t have to I don’t see anybody. But Sunday is the day that I want to look like I’m ready to meet the Lord, I hope that doesn’t make me vain. I hope it makes me human you know I am all over this UKposts until I see your message from Ascension drop on Wednesday afternoon. It’s so important to me. Thank you so much for doing it. God bless you and have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving, I know it’ll be a little harder this year and I understand that better than you know. But you’ll be in my prayers.

PRIDE IS WHAT MADE THE DEVIL FALL FROM HEAVEN. Truth be told people do have pride but what bothers me is that they deny it, or they act as if they are better than everyone else. People need to quit being prideful and realize they are sinners as we all are. But Jesus our Lord shows us humbleness and that's the cure for our souls.

Thanks. I am curious to know if I have a correct response. I used to think if called out of my pride, I would & still do get defensive. I find it so humiliating. I think of pride and judging others as the worst possible sin, and for someone to notice that about me makes me self-conscious. I care more about others seeing me a certain way than offending God. I hate it when my guilt and shame are super obvious. I naturally have an expressive face and body language. I hate it. I guess I expect, as a Catholic, I should be perfect. I hate being emotional when told the truth about my personality weaknesses and flaws. I should be grateful to have such honest people around me. I can feel as though I am under the microscope. I highly doubt this is the case because I am not that important. Some sins are way more embarrassing than others to commit.

I really, because of office politics, have become hypocritical. Am combatting it by learning just not to say anything; to keep silent and not participate or instigate certain conversations. The stupid thing is that because am actually very shy and don't do people, am often just trying to fill what for me is the painful awkwardness of being around people. Thank God for the mercy of the Holy Spirit, I began to observe others and realise that other people aren't talking. It's very challenging as am saying some stupid stuff just out of nervousness and awkwardness..feels a bit like one is drowning
