The only era when SNL wasn't funny, in my opinion, was from about 1980 through 1987. Then Lorne Michaels came back and righted the ship.

I'll never understand americans fascination with Jeopardy. What is it about the gimmick of answering the question with a question that impresses americans so much?

When the show was created in the 1960s, it was a daytime show that had some pretty difficult categories and questions. The format of having to answer in the form of a question was an additional quirk. When the show was resurrected in the 80s with Trebek replacing Art Fleming as host, the questions were toned down a notch or two; the questions are less academic and are more geared towards pop culture.
