We got a request from some folks for "solder-less pin header" - these snap-apart headers look just like your regular pin headers but they have a little slot in the shorter end that can make a cold-contact with pads on a PCB. only thing is, since they are wedged in, you need some good leverage and it takes a few tries to get the hang of it. but they do work, we checked continuity! for quick prototyping, these could be kinda handy. coming soon to the adafruit shop....

There are many times I wanted to do a solderless breadboard while developing, then solder it up with wires afterward. But desoldering headers afterward is no fun at all. The only other option was to purchase a second board for the final. This completely solves that issue.

I think it'd be easier to just plug the headers in a breadboard, then push the board down on top of it.

I’ve learned to not trust anything soldereless in my time with bread boards. But this looks super nice! Maybe in time, I’ll let go of my past.

Worth making a 3D printed jig to hold them at the right height/orientation for pressing in.

I take pins out of the header and re-insert them from the other side of the board. It can get a little tedious doing them one at a time on larger boards, but with the massive upside of not feeling like you're about to smash whatever you're putting them into. I've been using them for everything and still somehow have yet to run into any connection issues Honestly I've been wondering why I don't see more people doing it this way since I know not everyone has a soldering setup or experience

look at the breakout boards by pimoroni, you can do something similar to this with regular headers by offsetting the holes in the board slightly

Hi, can you share a direct link for this solderless header ? Thanks 😊

It would be interesting if you also could pull them out. (With standard or a dedicated tool )

I saw some a while back that the instructions said were inserted with a few taps of a hammer. I didn't like the idea of that so never bought any. Are these the same thing?

They're the same thing. You definitely don't need to use a hammer

Tbh i dont trust those. Also hole size is different between module to module, so there is no "1 size fit all". The last thing i want when debugging my code is debugging electrical connection

Nail clippers also work pretty well for cutting the headers if you need to in a pinch.

I would use them as single pins or pairs of two. Should be easier to push in and pull out and contact should be guaranteed. I would not trust every pin gets its fair share of force in a row of, lets say 8.
